Share

French coach Herve Renard has wished Chipolopolo well after quiting to join Ligue 1 side Sochaux.

FAZ announced on Monday that Renard had resigned to join the struggling French club.

In his first comment since resigning as Zambia coach, Renard hailed FAZ president Kalusha Bwalya for giving him the Chipolopolo top job.

“I would like to thank Kalusha for this opportunity and for allowing me to further my career,” he said.

Renard added:” I enjoyed working with him and together we did the best to further the development and rise of the Chipolopolo. I wish the team well.”

Meanwhile, Zambia assistant coach Patrice Beaumelle will take charge of the team in the 15 October friendly against Brazil in China.

  1. Hats off Renard.you did your part.we enjoyed your ups and downs with the chipolopolo.Let FAZ now advitise the top job not the Patrice B take over its.so many good coarches are hungry for a team of Zambia’s quality

  2. I’m glad he is not joining another African team. It would have bad to meet a Renard-coached team in Africa. Good for Mayuka too.

    • Not only for Mayuka. If Renard succeeds it will be good for more Zambian players (the like of Lungu, Mtonga, mulenga, mweene, Kalaba, and Sunzu) to break into the French leagues. From here it pays dividends for FAZ to regard Renard as an ambassador of Zambian Football.

  3. You did the best you could for us. You are a man of your words. It is common knoweldge that worldover coaches don’t stay with one club or country for ever. Even coaches that have won the world cup have quit their respective countries they have coached. It is not a new or strange thing. See you again in future.

You could also be our link for Zambia in future match preparation. Please do not forget our boys.

    • tubule you are very right.Great kalu always sees beyond reasoning.it is a plus for our players.at least we shall be seeing mayuka in the first 11 at sochaux.more of our players just have to work extra hard for renard to pick them.

  4. All the Best Mr Renard!!
Lets now see if all the trash talkers will get what they wished for. Zambia still lacks Deadly Goal scorers, & we shall see if Zambia turns into Brazil, now that Renard has moved on.

  5. Go Well Renard!
FAZ/Zambia should not be in a rush to sign on a new expatriate coach. Whilst Beaumuelle takes care let there be serious consultations on constituting a quartet of local coaches base on a (suggested) criteria below:
    1. Goalkeepers coach (must have played in goals)
    2. Defenders coach (his local team must have the most formidable defensive formation in the league or prolific playing career as defender)
    3. Midfielders coach (proven midfield role in both local and international fixtures)
    4. Strikers coach ( his local team must have the most prolific striking force in the league or prolific career as striker)
    5. Head coach can be any of the 4 but must demonstrate ability to read games/make necessary substitutions/remedial measures and must be able to enforce discipline.

  6. This is a strategy that has been tried and it worked wonders. The Zambian National Team that perished in the Gabon Air Disaster of 1993 had a quartet of the following local coaches
Goalkeepers Coach: Boniface Simutowe (did not travel with team)
Defenders Coach : Dick Chama (did not travel with the team)
Midfielders Coach : Alex “computer” Chola
Strikers Coach (Head Coach): “Ucar” Godfrey Chitalu
Since the demise of the 1993 team, Zambia has never been able to mobilise a “full force” team of local players that these local coaches put in place. May The Souls of the Departed Rest In Peace.

    • why have you chosen to deliberately ignore to mention the then head coach ‘chairman, big mose’ mosese simwala in that set up?

    • @ mature. ” Ucar” Godfrey Chitalu was Head Coach. I will not take away anything from Big Moze who accomplished a lot at Nkana with Jabes Zulu as Chairman of the Club. I may not have been privy to the inner workings of the 1993 quartet of the Zambia National Team coaches so I beg for your understanding. Bottom line is lets look inwards/to ourselves for a sustainable footballing future.

    • @ Theoretician, Moses Simwala was the Head Coach, he was just sick before the team left and “Ucar” Godfrey Chitalu who was his assistant by then went with the team.

  7. Bwana Theoretician when you just mention Ucar and Alex I grow goose pimples. That team that perished was a class act which could play at any level. I remember sitting at Independence Stadium and for the first time as soccer fans we could not make up the line up Ucar and Alex were going to unleash because everyone on the lineup was too good. Simply put we shall never have another team of that caliber and no wonder some of us cried like babies when we received the news they had perished off the coast of Gabon. Will always remember my numerous trips to Arthur Davies and Railway Stadium to watch these two sons of Zambia perform when they used to be players for their respective clubs.

  8. I hope the taking over by Patrice Beaumelle is only a short term measure. Zambia needs a seasoned coach of which Patrice is not. Renard run away before and took Beaumelle with him before. So why is he leaving him behind now. He only came back after Bonneti had developed the team to greater heights. Is Kalusha keeping Patrice just becoz he has been chewing with these guys? Zambians why do we let Kalusha ruin soccer in the country? The guy does not live in Zambia as he is in South Africa most of the time. He only comes to Zambia to collect allowances. Kalusha , Renard and Beaumelle should go together. When are the next FAZ elections kansi? KALUSHA MUST GO!

    • Kalusha is not going anywhere unless he resigns the change of FAZ will have a huge impact on the sponsorship of Zambian football by stakeholders, don’t bring corrupt people to replace Kalu, to tell you the truth I am one of the big mentor for kalu

    • Poor soccer analyst.Leave football to us.this is a good move. for your own information, renard is going to open professional gates for our players.Zambia plays good football but with few professionals in Europe.Cant you see that this is for our own good kolwe iwe?moreover, Mayuka is there and will now have to perform because renard knows him well and can turn him into a very good striker and market him(mayuka) further.

    • @ FAZ TEKANYANI. Do you know anything about football? did you just say Bonnett developed the team to greater heights? You are a joke. Give me one player Bonnett developed and i will give you 4 for Renard. The first time Renard came here he discovered 3 players namely Mbola, T. Nyirenda and S. Sunzu. Yes Sunzu he converted him to a defender, and you know what these 3 players did at afcon 2010. Then mr. Bonnett came, the only new player he ever played was Justine Zulu and you know what zulu did for the chipolopolo. The return of Renard saw the discovery of the midfield general in mr. N. Sinkala, the inclusion of Nkausu and E. Mayuka and afcon 2012 came to mother Zambia.
It is clear to me that your personal hate for kalu is eating your ability to reason. Stay away from football u loser.

  9. Good riddance 15 draws and 1 win speaks volumes….I wouldn’t waste my time thanking HR he should thank us for our docility and tolerating his incompetence the man can’t read a match how laughable is that. Club football will expose him every week I don’t see him in the job at that club by Xmas, he is a PE teacher.

    • Jay Jay, call him what you like,it does not matter. Some of the most successful coaches have never been players, take for instance Jose (who is back at Chelsea). He may be a PE trainer but he managed to bring the AFCON here. No one will change that. People may bring in the Bonnet factor but it just does not change the fact that Zambia won AFCON under the tutelage of HR.

  10. No local coach other wise the players will be drinking chibuku and we know this very well. As Kalu’s big advisers here in the United States of American we are going to advise Kalu to look for a foreign coach. and I salute HR for the job well done. The Hunt for the new foreign coach starts now if you are against the idea of the new foreign coach too bad you not the one going to pay the money it’s us the stakeholders…….

    • it will never happen as long I am alive, simata simata and kamanga will never oversee Zambian football, so sorry men

  11. I am now at peace the French mercenary has finally quit after making a fortune and building his CV whilst with the Chipolopolo. Any what can the other guy or Caretaker coach d`elivery when its was the same mercenary squad.
