HH urges Government to pay farmers on time

Opposition United Party for national Development (UPND) President Hakainde Hichilema has called on the Patriotic Front (PF) Government to honor the small scale farmers by paying them their money within the promised 14 days.

Mr. Hichilema says it is shocking that after getting assurances that farmers would be receiving their payments as punctually as 10 to 14 days after delivering their crop during this marketing season.

He said that it is worrying that some farmers that supplied their maize to the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) in July are yet to receive their payments.

He said that such delays in payment overtures could be a cue to undoing the growth of the agriculture sector that the country have worked hard for to prop up.

Mr. Hichilema has since called on the Agency to live by its word and stop pretending to be oblivious to the effects of delayed payments to farmers.

    • It is this kind of thinking that will not take our country out of third world mentality. We will remain backward for as long as we do not distinguish between genuine criticism from mere publicity.

    • The payment duration has actually even reduced under pf.Guy Scott has improved a lot of things.I personally own a fleet of trucks that F.R.A hires from time to time to distribute the maize and during MMD it was a nightmare to get the payment but now things have drastically improved ever since PF came into power. They must be praised too for the job well done.

    • Guys I have conducted a simple survey to find out how many bloggers support HH ‘s criticism of the PF on this matter and those opposed.

My findings show that there are 12 bloggers supporting HH so far compared to only 3 bloggers against HH.

The 3 anti HH bloggers are Saulosi, Luapula premier, and Chulu.

so far 80% support HH and only 20% PF on this matter.

    • @Wanzelu i know how hard you try to attract attention, but on this one if you read my post carefully i`m agreeing with HH.I`m just trying to amplify the whole thing by saying that this problem has always been there. It hasn`t started under PF hence your decision to go on a tirade attacking PF is a bit lame and misplaced. And please those percentages will never be correct.I doubt of you have ever walked into any statistics class.Anyway am out of here.Cheers !!!

    • Poor HH trying to bring up non issues.Funny how this dude try’s to shows his relevance in politics by raising now issues.Where is Chipimo please ? We need him(Chipimo).

    • Saulosi your thinking is lame and primitive , just because a problem was their before PF it means it’s ok to continue with it. HHS is spot on this one, why pay farmers this late when farming season is on the corner

    • some bloggers really amuse me.on Lusaka times that’s were u find the most and stupid dull bloggers have ever come across they cant rise above partisan politics every time even wen someone is sayn the truth and speaking sense they always go defensive of something they don’t even know.stupid cadres

    • LDK!Either you are mentally constipated or you have lost your coordinates bwana. How does Agriculture becomes a non issue?Money from the FRA is needed to buy farming implements for this season.HH is bringing out pertinent issues that affect this nation, but you tribalists have chosen to scnadalise whatever good He says.Chipimo is only marketable to you tribalists. We are tired of this backward mentality.

    • When things are not affecting you as a person, simply because you belong to the A Team, does not mean all is well. What PF is doing is exactly what MMD did in the 90’s by giving farmers Promissory Notes which they did not honor in some cases to date, for these they did the delay was so much that it have a negative impact on farming. Look at what happened to the country in that period. Please PF do not play with food production, food is part of peace in a nation.

  1. when will people learn thats its the Job of the Opposition party to keep the current ruling party in check? i.e making sure the ruling party is doing what it promised.

  2. Good call right there. There have always been delays in government when it comes to payments. This is nothing new.It is more than bureaucracy behind the late payments. It has more to do with officers who are too lazy to make the paperwork a bit faster(I doubt if the whole system is computerized) hence making the process artificially slower.

    • @Saulosi

How sure are you that it is the officers who are lazy to complete the paper work? In any case what paper work is involved in simply paying the farmers who supplied maize to FRA?
The fact is PF does not prioritise farmers at all. Its a shame really that PF is robbing the poor . How can paper work take more than 3 months to prepare?

Suppose it is true that it is the officers’ laziness responsible for the delay, then who is to blame for their laziness if not the PF administration which lets these officers tarnish it’s name?

PF is so incompetent because they over promise and don’t deliver on time. If they loose sympathy from the small scale farmers who are the majority voters then I am afraid their political fortunes will dwindling really fast.

      So 2016 ????????? for…

    • @Wanzelu you must take a walk into one of those government offices to understand what i`m talking about.I`m talking from experience because i`m close to one of the major government suppliers. Remove those political glasses and look at the bigger picture. This problem has been endemic in all the previous governments. The workers in government are way too lazy(they have always been lazy from the unip days).

    • @”And you” if you don’t have anything to contribute don’t tell others to shut up.Empty brains.Thumbs up Saulosi for intimidating these useless bloggers.

    • Does payment delay also for GBM for the supply of fuel to the army? What about payment to Apollo construction owned by finance minister,or the chinese mogul.Financial rules and regulations must apply equally to all citizens.

  3. Kabimba 10 GBM 0: What a surprising turn around by Chikwelete!
ROBERT Chikwelete has apologised to PF secretary general Wynter Kabimba for his offending conduct towards him.

According to a letter of apology dated October 31, 2013, Chikwelete further apologised to Vice-President Dr Guy Scott for denouncing, insulting and humiliating the duo.

“Re: Apology for offending the party. I refer to the above matter and would like to apologise to you sir, as secretary general of our party, Patriotic Front, for the offending conduct towards the senior leaders of our party especially yourself as the secretary general and the Vice-President of our party Dr Guy Scott and other genuine members of the party who were offended by my conduct, I ask for forgiveness,” read Chikwelete’s letter in part…

  4. Way to go HH, atleast there is someone watching them like it should be.This is being responsible, go dig up some more they need to work and not merry or squabbling all the time, time is of the essence peoples lives are at stake here. Watch them closely basir, we need real opposition leaders.

  5. WHEN HH GROWS UP IN POLITICS, HE WILL
REALIZE THAT POLITICS IS ALL ABOUT
    A GAME OF MANIPULATING PEOPLES’
    THOUGHTS.

READ ABOUT OR LISTEN TO WHAT OBAMA
    SAID ABOUT GUANTANAMO BAY DURING
    CAMPAIGNS AND MORE RECENTLY
    ABOUT HIS OBAMA CARE.

    • @Luapula

Your posts are difficult to read. Turn caps lock off – unless your computer is broken and you can’t afford another one.

Otherwise, it’s bad manners and considered shouting

    • Manipulating people’s thots is PURE WITCHCRAFT practiced by tribal minnows like you and dunder heads like moslem Obama.

  6. We clap for you Mr H.H for once you are speaking as an Opposion Party checking the Govt in Office. We do not like what people say who impersonate Tongas and utter evil words. as a result you are shunned and rabelled as a Tribalist. please one day you will tell them that you do not subscribe to Tribalism

  7. Hh ,u have spoken as a human being & as demon. The blame is not on the politicians but on these crookered and lazy Zambians working in FRA.Maybe it is time those directors were fired.

    • Personally, I’ve no time for anyone who includes “demons” in their normal everyday reasoning.

  8. HH is doing his job as leader of the opposition. The government needs to learn to take on constructive criticism. Some bloggers always think it’s a publicity stint when the guy is actually digging out info which each and every Zambian citizen should be aware of.

    • Unless the govt has people like hakainde to provide checks and balances they will not perform. Come 2016 wise Zambians should burn this family forest. No single family should have the previlenge of ruling for two terms(10 years). We should reduce the maximum term to one five year term. No wonder we have had endorsements in pf simply meant to protect the forest family

  9. some bloggers have never ending bitterness against the young man HH. do not commit suicide because of bitterness. things are changing on the ground , people no longer believe in the pf lies and deceit. a lot of you 1diots supporting pf blindly from missions abroad you will be recalled back home to come and eat mankolobwe in 2016. family forest will be cut down

    • Amankolobwe!

      Hahahahahahaha. Ahahahahahahaha! Nice one Matipa!

    • Ati amankolobwe wandepula kale naufwilepo ifyo fintu. Mutipa you are right some people follow sata blindly kwatilimbi ali balowa!

  10. Hh ,u have spoken as a human being & not as a demon. The blame is not on the politicians but on these crookered and lazy Zambians working in FRA.Maybe it is time those directors were fired.

  11. These leaders from Gwandanaland hv no shame. I don’t thik it is normal to keep on day dreaming and fail to live up to yo words. Let them walk talk not talk the walk. Shame Bob.

  12. You 3 *****s what’s wrong HH telling your Patriotic Failures PF to give the poor farmers what belongs to them, them they pay their salaries in time but for the poor farmers the paper work takes 6 months & after that money distributing will take 3 months shame on you

  13. You 3 ldiots what’s wrong HH telling your Patriotic Failures PF to give the poor farmers what belongs to them, them they pay their salaries in time but for the poor farmers the paper work takes 6 months & after that money distributing will take 3 months shame on you

  14. A reasonable request. By the time it’s been converted in to a fisherman’s tale it will be made to sound like he issued an order to empty out the coffers for his sole pleasure and heaped criticism and threats on the nation. That said there may be plenty of buyer’s remorse in Zed but it is still not converting in to HH support which might be a tad frustrating for this fellow. Methinks 2016 votes will split awkwardly and the other young gun will pick up more than expected but there is no contender on the ground. Maybe politicians should consider actually doing real work inside and outside of Lusaka and instead of chasing votes change some lives. More productive for all in the long run.

  15. I am impressed with the way HH has evolved as a politician. He is hitting the right notes and keeping the govt on it’s toes. Even Sata is beginning to acknowledges the political pressure emanating from HH.

  16. This is my president. Come 2016 you have my vote. Keep it up HH! I deeply regret having voted for abakalamba ba sata. Bali tubepa sana mu 2011.

  17. That guy behind HH is scary. I think he could do unimaginable torturous physical things to another human being without blinking. And go on to eat breakfast.

I hope he’s part of your security team.

  18. HH is right on this one just as he is on most issues he touches on.Its time for bigots to put down their anti Tonga feelings and put this man in plot one in the best interests of our nation.

  19. Please come to copperbelt some of us want to be serious upnd members. Come to chingola kuno ku chiwepela twanaka na ba sata

  20. Good afternoon

Just wondering what the applause is all about? Stating the obvious?

Anyone can urge the government to observe payment deadlines. One does not need to be an opposition leader to make such straight forward statements.

    • Am certain you wouldn’t do this. Which makes ur statement wrong. Not a lot of people are speaking for the farmers. HH and a number of mps have come out, given them a voice. I certainly appreciate that. Don’t just sit on ur laptop and thinkin of cute little sentences to put across.

  21. Poor farmers, the rains have started and they are still counting on fra moneys.
Continue talking for the poor HH.My main man!!

  22. One period I enjoyed most in class was during correction time. The teacher gives you a task, you do it and take it for assessment. The teacher points out your mistakes and you go back to your desk and you make the corrections. I always wonder why most of our elders in Zambia hate to be corrected. Did they go through the same education system we all went through? Education is preparation for life. Accepting mistakes and making corrections is part of life and that is why teachers insist on it. Instead of making corrections they always condemn the assessors and justify the mistakes by saying things like ‘my brain is lazy ‘, or last year’s class made more mistakes than me, etc. What a a waste of money on schooling.

    • Like 194 students who genuinely failed the exams because they came from universities which sell freezetis and bought marks all the way. they now justifying they failure by blaming lecturers.

  23. TAKE OR LEAVE IT…..

    HH SHALL NEVER be PRESIDENT
    in my life time.

    I m 50, MARK MY WORD!

HH does not even feature in our
    vocabulary.

HE HAS NOT MADE HIMSELF KNOWN
    HERE.

    • Who new Chiluba would be the President, Mwanawasa was shocked himself. Look RB had completely retired back found himself a President. Worse Sata it never also occurred to him.
So do not be so positive that this and that will never be a president. You have one vote out 6 million voters.
Get your a rest and put your brains on good use.
One annoying thing is a woman who was a cleaner in a lodge, now she is in Indian as political administrator her name Mutale

  24. @ Italian Presidential Material and @Nyati

If you live on probability, please keep
    dreaming…..

Chiluba was born out out of a popular
revolt against a system, something that
    HH prays for.

    Mwanawasa and RB were never
    ruble rousers.
    They were simply installed.

    Their strengths, power and strength
therefore lay in how much chiefdoms
of the appointing fellows were mobilized.

Never again shall we repeat that history.

Thats why Chiluba died an outcast as far as
    Luapula politics are concerned.

  25. Mwanawasa was my student leader at UNZA.

He was more educated than Chiluba.
But he never challenged Chiluba’s lack
    education or corruption.

He waited, supported him until the right
    time came.

    HH demeans and insults everything
    madalas do.

Do you reckon Sata or KK do not
have constituents or admires in this country?

    WAIT FOR 2016…

  26. @LUAPULA PREMIER

Yes, we agree with you that HH will not be president in your life time since you have prophesized your death before the next elections. R.I.P in advance!

  27. I agree with those calling for Chipimo. We need Chipimo to study the situation and offer some sensible critics as usual. HH kuwayawayafye.

  28. @Luapula Prime minister.
It might not be HH or whoever, the fact is that you can not tell who would be the next President? P.F has completely failed to extent of sending cleaners to present zambia on economic issues(Indian).
You have no direction my dear, change course otherwise the boat is sinking>

  29. HH is the right man to elad Zambia..he cares not these chaps who have never owned farms..they don’t even know how much it costs..they are after stealing..kolwestans..
