President Sata asks the Bemba Traditional Council not to install Sosala as chief Chitimukulu

PRESIDENT Michael Sata has asked the Bemba Traditional Council why it is in a hurry to install a new paramount chief when there are pending issues surrounding the chieftaincy that need closure.

Patriotic Front Northern Province chairman Everest Chela said in an interview that Mr Sata had called him to relay the message to the BTC not to hurry the installation of Henry Sosala as paramount chief Chitimukulu.

Mr Chela said Government wanted outstanding issues with the BTC resolved before the installation as it was the presidents wish for harmony to prevail.

The BTC had set November 15 as the date on which Mr Sosala’s coronation as paramount chief Chitimukulu would be held.

The BTC has in the past maintained that despite Government’s decision to degazzette Mr Sosala from his position as senior chcief Mwamba, it still considered him as such and went on to appoint him as the next in line.

Minister of Chiefs and Traditional Affairs Nkandu Luo had made a statement that as far as Government was concerned, there was no Chitimukulu.

The BTC responded by saying Mr Sosala was now Mwine Lubemba and would be treated as so.

However, Mr Chela as emissary of the president said he had a telephone conversation with Mr Sata where the head of state said he had not degazzeted Mr Sosala as “he had managed the fete all by himself.”

Mr Chella appealed to BTC to have accommodating dispositions to enable Government to participate in the installation and to ensure cordial relations between Government and BTC prevailed.

Efforts to get ta comment from the BTC spokesperson Chief Chimba failed by Press Time.

  1. I think those cadres who beat up a police woman and killed that innocent man in his car because the could not raise P F symbol is more important than Bemba chief. Worse beating that man who was just cycling.
Is this the country we want it be??????. We are not safe all in our homes, roads, work places even in our bathrooms. Fear is building up.
Mr President can we see Justice prevail and stop this kind of behaviour from these cadres. Fire is started by a small head of matches, but it takes all the nation to put it off, if they have means, otherwise it will history. We all live on borrowed times and sustainability is key.
    Let us learn to listen.

    • The state of affairs is not good at all. How does the president find it fit to talk about the peace loving BTC, who are not threatening the peace of this nation in any way. He should have been commenting on the holiganism within his party which is affecting everyone. It is now clear that important matters are now to be redefined in this nation, and protecting citizens from the PF malitia is not one of them.

    • The message from the BTC is clear. Whether Sata likes is or not, they will Install Snr Chief Mwansa as Mwine Lubemba.

The best Sata can do is keep quite and pretend he didn’t know it’s Henry Sosala that’s being Installed.

    • @Italian, well spoken. The President has got his priorities seriously wrong. But then again, thats typical of Sata.
@2020, are you not able to see that the President is supposed to demonstrate harmony by stumping out senseless killings in his own party among cadres before he can even think about lecturing to ba shilubemba who have been managing traditions for hundreds of years?

  2. Abo batampa uku papata! But l urge the BTC to go ahead and ignore the calls from government, no one should trust them, there is always something behind this plea. Besides as the date closes in there will be something they will do just to deter the coronation from going ahead.

    • No matter how long Sata takes to recognize the decision of the BTC it will not change their resolve on behalf of the Bemba people that Henry Sosala is the Chitimukulu.

  3. This chimbwi truly has no plan. He is opening his big mouth on matters that don’t concern him, leaving real issues of instability in the capital untouched. Leave matters of traditional importance to villagers. They have capable people far wiser than you to take care of succession issues. How long are going bury your head in the sand? THis shows how unprincipled and desperate hunger-stricken politicians can be. No one has uttered a word of reason or resigned. LET’s send these people packing very quickly.

  4. Is there something that we need to know? Why is there a problem between sata and this bemba chief? sata has a lot work to do in this country, and as such throwing his energies to talk about the installation of a chief should not be priority!! Let him leave them alone!!

    • Sata’s motive is simply to extend influence from cadres on the streets of Chawama to the respectable traditional chiefs in the remotest parts of Zambia. Once he ‘captures’ the paramount chief, he would order him to do anything for his political votes, like it or hate. He will just say, ‘ I put you on seat to serve interest too , finshi winganjeba’ do what I say’. I have seen intelligent dictators who could do a lot harm but the very next day pretend to be good and sweet talk you like Mugabe, but Sata is the worst of its kind- a total dunderhead. Let this be lesson!

  5. Selective amnesia. The same Sata and his cronies who are trying to sneek a half baked draft constitution that the Zambian people have serious issues with. Can real zambians please shout self serving double standards?

    • We are aware how that man was killed in a SUSUKI Escordo. This is a serious matter. You can even tell people that are demons….F,u.C.ker. Go to the funeral house and hear the cries of people. S H I T

    • Mother Effer! U’re an effing A.Hole u Fuk ing Di-ck-head. U are the worst Demon here u son of an effing HO! Take your dcik and shove back up Sata’s butt-hole where it belongs! AN INNOCENT MAN WAS KILLED AND U HAVE THE AUDACITY TO BRING YOUR DEMONS CRAP HERE???

  6. Presido has a phone for our paramount chief or any person connect to the Bemba council, even GBM, if he had a message to relay, he should relay it hounarably.this telephone to chela was mere convervasation between two cadres of the panga fighters PF.it s another mere rhetoric. And zoona we are back in unip days where cadres had more powers than government officials. There is so much important things fighting, constitution,Kcm, debt that require satas attention than the rightful installation of our chief

  7. iwe sata ba Shilubemba told you that nga ni itu twine utundalama batupela, katube nga ba shamfumu bakale baleikala shani. so lay your paws off bashi lubemba

  8. We as traditional Bembas are thankful that this fraudster sitting as President is digging his political grave with each passing day. Never have we seen a spectacle of disasters in a President within such a short time frame. Power if one does not handle it properly disillusions- and this President is demontrating that. He is a disrespectful perosn- how does he send a mere cadre to talk to our people? Elo ka Chellah kalikufi fye kumwesu kuno.Ala ba Sosala ni mfumu yama fumu mu Lubemba whether the disillusioned President likes it or not. Leave our traditins to us and attend to more imprtant issues in the country. Your leadership (or its lack thereof) has resulted in people dying, citizens afraid, medicine shortages. Twapapata we mpumbu we twala amaka ushele nayo ku fintu fyalondoloka lilya…

  9. How does Sata have the voice to talk about the ba Shilubemba issue when all along he has been quite on the serious issues that are affecting his party? The infighting of his BIG cadres GBM and Winter has even led to the death of one person. Why hasn’t he said anything about his cadres BUT he finds the voice to talk about the Shilubemba issue which is of no threat to the peace of our beloved country as compared to his cadres moving around with machetes hacking people to death?

  10. Good morning

So what happens if the Traditional Council goes ahead and installs a new paramount chief without approval from the state? Is’nt this what they have been doing all along, as early as the 17th century when they arrived from the Luba-Lunda Kingdom?

This interference by the state with traditional laws and order is too much for my liking. The president needs to be advised that the Bemba have their own complex political system which regards Chitimukulu as their ONLY supreme authority.

The message sent by Bashilubemba on this issue was crystal clear. It is impossible to have cordial relations with the Bemba people without recognizing their Royal Charter and accepting their paramount chief.

    • Hear! hear! Hear! hear! nine chale is not happy too. Sata call my mentor and he will help you understand the real sense of the matter. Brave Chale.

    • Wow! Wonders will never cease – Nine Chale grows some and has a spine for once – not his usual saying nothing sitting on the fence nauseating comments for once – but of course this has to do with his beloved Bembas, if this was happening to Gawa Undi for example, he would be in full suport of Ukwa – such is the power of tribalism.

  11. The beauty is Mwine Lubembe cannot be deported like Kurma. He is more Zambian than Zondwa. Let us unite to support our roots financially which government is using like a wipe to make chiefs to submit. A tribe without culture is like a tree without roots.

  12. Sata has got no priorities that is why he is failing the Zambian people. It is very dangerous to have someone as a leader who thinks he is a boss, untouchable and knows everything. Sata should just shut his dirty mouth about this issue and let the traditional leaders do what is best for their tradition. Imagine if the traditional involved themselves in active politics how they would be caned and castigated! This is not a govt business, never in the history of Zambia have we had this kind of arrogance concerning traditional affairs. Does Sata really want to have the mandate to appoint chiefs also? Isn’t it enough to appoint his relatives as ministers, ps, diplomats etc? The Chikwandas and GBM why are they letting this lunatic to carry on like this anyway?

  13. The Bemba Traditional Council has been clear and transparent over the Chitimukulu, BUT the Govt has always spoken in riddles about “issues” surrounding Chitimukulu. Why can’t the Govt state clearly what issues are there, name them instead of just saying “there are issues”.

  14. The installation of the new Chitimukulu will proceed. The president should learn to listen to the people tasked with the job of appointing the Chitimukulu. Bashi Lubemba have asked the president to consult them on this matter, so they could enlighten him on the process followed to arrive at Sosala as the rightful successor. Instead of responding to bashi Lubemba’s respectiful invitation the president chose to keep quiet. Ba kateka, just accept the verdict of the BTC regarding Sosala. They won’t replace him with your favoured candidate, nor will your failure to recognize Sosala change the fact he is the new paramount chief of the Bemba people. Bashi Lubemba have made this fact clear. Ngabasonta tabasontolola, and they have been doing this for hundreds of years.

  15. Like most observer here – I also do not see why Sata is so hell-bent on having an influence of the installation of Chiti Mukulu.
Yes, he has many more important things to worry about … external debt, load shedding, diseases, cadre violence, PF in-fighting, corrupt cabinet, lack of direction to name just a few.

I look forward to a day when HEMCS can do the job he was elected to do … run the country.

    • Sata has failed to do the work he was employed to do, I hope the electorate are learning something from his behavior, he has even failed to address them on pressing issues. Please kick that man out of state house in 2016 he has completely failed his duties! Umuntu ushumfwa pafinono napafingi teti womfwe iyo!

    • Thayt day will never come – forget it! I always thought that Sata was going to prove people wrong and show exemplary leadership to our nation once elected president!
But alas, I was tottaly wrong…..this man has serious and dangerous short comings that will leave Zambia totally destroyed and backward politically and economically! The most dangerous of them is the debt trap as Chikanda’s appetite to borrow is not only senseless but wickedly evil to say the least!

  16. It is very interesting how some people a defending the Bemba tribe here when they insult them every day. Just an observation.

    • Because they are playing you. Comments under different names, riigging. Observe my friend and don’t waste your time

  17. To be honest, I completely do not understand the President’s thinking on this issue. The other Chitimukulu died a long time ago, and when the Bembas want to install a new one, you say they are in a hurry? Why not leave the Bembas alone? Let them do according to their tradition that they have freely chosen and done for hundreds of years. There is something wrong with our government?

    • Frank, Sata wants to install a chitimukulu who is user friendly to PF and preferrably BISA, his own tribe. Thats why he is playing politics about who should be next chiti. And have you ever wondered how the last one died?

  18. The president should just swallow his pride, keep quiet and take a nap in his shell because the bembas are determined to go ahead especially with the crafty GBM backing them behind the scenes.

  19. “Ngati basonta tabasontolola” iwe cimuntu! It’s not yo murderous pf. Chieftenancy is not like cabinet ministers who are at yo mercy.

  20. Stand your ground Bemba elders .Sata is an evil spirit manifesting in human form, if you listen to him everything goes into flames and he will stick his head in sand to prestend nothing is going on. He incited youths on radio lyambai in mongu while in opposition to demonstrate against RB’s government and promised to restored Barotse agreement once elected. What followed is something everyone would rather it didn’t happen and its why we are where we today on Barotse issue. PF sympathisers who sent him to state are mourning after yesterday Thursday’s blood bath in the capital-not single word of condemnation of perpetrators of genocide from him. If this isn’t lesson enough I don’t know what is. If you let him install your tradition chief, you will be selling your dignity and freedom

  21. Mr Sata and the government must not think that they are more important than the rest of the Zambian people.

They have only been in government for two years, and their arrogance is already sky-high.

Be respectful to the people who voted you into office and are your employers.

Why don’t you Mr Sata and government translate those public kneelings of prospective MPs into respect for Zambians?

Instead of serving us, you are busy bullying, intimidating and conniving to deceive us. You have caused too much pain and disorder already.

One would have thought that we should have seen and heard efforts and messages of reconciliation, unity and peace in the run up to Remembrance Sunday, especially that before God and this nation Mr Sata pledged to govern Zambia according to the Ten…

  22. Why we zambians voted for this inhuman character? Unconcerned about the intra pf killings we allow the character there as if nothing terrible happens! Now this character talks against the installation of Henry Sosala while mute on the pf bloodshed!

  23. Why we zambians so stupid we voted for this inhuman character? Unconcerned about the intra pf killings we allow the character there as if nothing terrible happens! Now this character talks against the installation of Henry Sosala while mute on the pf bloodshed!

  24. Take note voters there wherever use yo head and heart receive moneypf gives but apply yo brain vote for UPND viva HH!

    • There is no confusion, we are proceeding with the installation!! The only confused people are the little puppets who were given power by the people yesterday & now think they RULE EARTH!!

  25. Mr. Sata’s emissary sent to convey Sata’s personal views on installation of The Chitimukulu, is merely a “PF cadre”. PF Northern Province chairman Everest Chela, as the name suggests, is not a Bemba but a Mambwe/Namwanga.

Chela must tread cautiously on such highly sensitive issues hanging over the Bemba Chiefs. President Sata has a Minister in-charge of Chiefs’ affairs. Besides, State House has direct hot lines with Provincial Ministers in Northern and Muchinga provinces.

There are many Bemba PF Ministers who are better informed on the traditional procedures relating to the appointment of The Paramount Chief Chitimukulu – but are agonisingly watching in silence. Only the Bemba Traditional Council can advise Govt and NOT vice versa. Ba Chela ‘MILENI A MATE’. There is tension…

  26. SATA NAPENA NO MUKASHI WAKWE LESBIAN. ALEFWAYA CHIEF AKAKWATE TOTAL LOYALTY KULI SATA. 2016 ILEISA, KUYA BEBELE. ULEMONA ATI PANTU ULI MUBISA ULEFWAYA UKUCHITA INTIMIDATE ABA BEMBA UBEPELEFYE. AND THOSE OF YOU MAKING FUNNY COMMENTS ATI “BEMBA CONFUSION” SATA TE MUBEMBA TWAPAPATA. HE IS JUST STICKING HIS DIRTY FINGERS IN THE BEMBA TRADITIONS. LET HIM GO BACK TO TANZANIA WHERE HE CAME FROM. MM’EMBE AKASOKOLOA INKAMA NGA BAPUSANA NA SATA. ITS JUST A MATTER OF TIME.

  27. Bashilubemba mulilo waikatako wa pya, SATA and PF should ask MMD and Chiluba, it was only Paramount Chief Chitimukulu who refused the third term and to be paraded at state house then.
Dr.Ngandu should help the government on this matter. The ilamfya makes final decisions concerning the affairs of bemba kingdom.

  28. they are ready to go ahead..the things are already in place..leave them alone sir..its not your chiefdom they are installing someone into..whats wrong with George and his boss…
