Opposition Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) president Nevers Mumba has warned that the opposition will not turn the Patriotic Front (PF) government loose if it is planning some tricks to further delay the current constitutional making process.
Dr. Mumba’s warning comes in the wake of the directive that the Ministry of Justice has written to the Technical Committee instructing them to print only 10 copies of the final draft constitution.
In an interview with Qfm, Dr. Mumba has charged that the PF government should not dare to do any tricks to delay constitutional making process further as the opposition will demand whatever it takes to ensure that current constitutional making process yields a new constitution for the country.
Dr. Mumba says although the process of coming up with the country’s new constitution has taken two years instead of the earlier pronounced 90 days, it is important that the country still have a new constitution now.
Dr. Mumba says this why the Ministry of Justice should lay off its hands from the work of the Technical Committee as the committee’s mandate is under terms of reference.
Dr. Mumba says the Technical Committee is supposed to be guided by the terms of reference and that the continuous interference and delay in the constitutional making process has continued to be the major frustration on the part of many people in the country.
Dr. Mumba says the Ministry of Justice is supposed to cooperate with the Technical Committee and give them the directive that is within the terms of reference to hand over the final draft constitution to the Head of State and the public simultaneously.
He says this is in order to avoid manipulation of the document by the Executive.
Come 2016, Pf should be kicked out before they sink the whole country down. We are being led by people, without a vision and foresight for the country.

I think NEVERS can even do a better job than your HH. Zambia will only be saved if the country comes to its senses and vote for seasoned Christians into leadership positions not baby Christians or suspected satanists. The problem Zambia has is not physical, but spiritual. You vote for good people today, I’m telling you within few days/years they will change into bad people, unless they think God in the morning, afternoon, evening, night or all the time then they will not change. You need people like NEVERS in these days becoz the fight in Zambia is btn GOD and Satan. This constitution started during mwanawasa’s rule, continues during RB’s corrupt regime. PF took over and within two years it has been completed and remember the PF gvt was pushing the committee to finish this document. Infact I remember the minister of justice even giving them a date line but they failed to complete it. So don’t blame the gvt it has committed itself to ensuring that this doc is completed. Bravo PF

I would like to comment on MMD warning government on constitution. As much I appreciate the fact that it Dr Mumba’s democratic right to comment on important national issues such as the constitution, I feel Dr Mumba and his MMD should be the last to talk about the constitution. I say this because for twenty years that the MMD was in power they were dragging over the constitution and wasted billions of tax payers money on failed constitution making processes. This does not mean I am supporting the PF no. The MMD has contributed to the many sufferings that the people are going through because they denied them the constitution that would have changed their lives. I take it as a joke to hear Dr Mumba promising a better Zambia, a Zambia you failed to improve in 20 years. God help us.

I dont support the tricks that the PF is doing but isnt MMD tasting its on bitter pill. They were using the same tricks for a long time when they were in power and wasted billions of tax payer’s money on the constitution without yielding anything positive. That money could have saved many people’s lives in hospitals but due to MMD greed, our people are no more. Maybe Nevers Mumba if he has any morals should apologise first for the treachery it conducted over the constitution, public order act, FOI, etc. Nowonder HH rightly observed that MMD had its time, messed up and couldnt deliver. Actually it was an evil party in power which a pastor like Nevers Mumba if he has any morals should not have accepted to lead MMD. MMD has no moral right to condemn PF.
Evil party? How? I don’t recall cadres hacking each other with pangas during MMD rule apart from when MCS himself was supporting FTJ’s 3rd term bid. At least MMD distributed all drafts to the people. Now we are even being denied the draft.
MMD under LP.Mwanawasa said the constitution will only be ready after 2016 and its on record from then president Levi Patrick Mwanawasa.

Levy did not put the constitution above everything. He actually said it cannot feed he people. But he went ahead and constituted the NCC which later tabled it before Parliament (Long after he passed on. MHSRIP). it was parliament that rejected the constitution bill. The cold winter weather now doesn’t even want us to read our own product.

Some issues should be beyond partisan politics. What we need now is a constitution nothing else. Why should a few individuals we voted for deny us our democratic right? This is no time for debates MMD vs PF but time demand what is ours. I want a constitution out now, 90 days is over. Zambians, when are we going to change? 49 years same mentality, awe mwandi
Expecting a constitution under this set up, people just forget. Recall the promise was within 90 days, and the reality it has been two years pushing three years, nothing is doing.
