Vilified Zambia midfielder Rainford Kalaba has made the preliminary list for the 2013 African based player award.
This is the second season that Kalaba has made the roll in the same category after making the final shortlist in 2012.
The TP Mazembe midfielder was later beaten to the award by Egypt midfielder Mohammed Aboutreika.
And the nomination comes after Kalaba was recently axed from the Zambia team from last Thursdays friendly against Egypt.
This is after a fallout over his health status with FAZ in a club-versus-country row when Mazembe refused to release him and two other Zambian players in the run up to the October 15 friendly against Brazil in Beijing.
Meanwhile, Kalaba is the only Zambian vying for honours on this years’ CAF players honours.
He made the list after inspiring Mazembe to the final of the 2013 CAF Confederation Cup where they will face CS Sfaxien in the first leg on November 23 before hosting the Tunisian club in Lubumbashi on November 30.
His club mates striker Mbwana Samatta and midfielder Tresor Mputu have also made the nominees list.
Aboutreika too is on the 21 member list whose winner will be known on January 9 during an awards gala to be held in Lagos, Nigeria.
I would like to wish kalaba all the best but I honest believe he is not going to win.
Such honours should be awarded on merit not only being a good fooballer of a successful team rather should even be based on all-round personality esteem and achievement abilities of being a role model of sportsmanship as well respectable character on and off the field of play. This is not about patriotic statistics. So do not blame Kalusha or Mwanza if they vote for another suitable candidate. As for me Kabala could have potential to be awarded but demerits a lot to be desired!
Innocent ndiwe mfiti. Why do you think CAF picked on kalaba’s name? Is it you to tell CAF how to do their job? Kalaba is shining at T P Mazambe, if you that is too difficult for you to swallow then go and hang. Kalaba may not get the award but some of us are proud to know that our very own is shortlisted for such an award. Wish him well.
J.J. my son, I have nothing against Kalaba as a person, but entitled to my own opinion which wisely influences decision makers. I have not yet recovered from the impunity and indiscipline this proud boy exhibited and feigned sickness to un-patriotically denied Zambia opportunity to draw or win against Brazil. Mark my word, Kalaba could a talented player but has no calibre to win the subject award.
Kalusha and Erick Mwanza will most likely vote for another player than Kalusha. I hope sanity will prevail despite the differences between the player and the Association.
I think there is shortage of talent in Africa at moment.

Mputu- Useless chap, very indicipline, he can’t even pass doping test because of smoking

you nostradanus, you shouldn’t speak nonsense about Mputu if u aint’t nothing about him. His the best player..as information for u now. He has been awarded best african player in 2007 by scoring 22 goals in champions league. He has been also awarded in 2008 best player of the Orange cup in ivory coast which DRcongo defeated the giant GHANA in the final by 2-0 and had a golden medal. His was also won golden medal again as best palyer of tournament in ckafa in kigali( rwanda). And he gave his club twice the champions league titles..and now his gonna lift again the confederation cup on the 30 nov 2013 by beating aCSfaxien
