The Foundation for Democratic Process has disclosed that it has received information that Government intends to extend the constitution making process by one more year.

FODEP Executive Director McDonald Chipenzi however noted that maneuvers to extend the process by another year are worrying as this will cost the country huge sums of money.

Mr. Chipenzi says that Government is not comfortable with most of the progressive clauses in the draft constitution hence the maneuvers to extend the process and tamper with the final document.
“We have received information from credible sources that Government is not comfortable with certain clauses in the draft constitution and is now planning to delay the process by another one year and possibly temper with the draft,” Mr Chipenzi claimed.
He added, “Our prayer is that this information turns out to be incorrect because we will not allow any further manipulation of this process by the Executive.”

And Mr. Chipenzi is surprised that the constitution making process has been shrouded in a lot of secrecy adding that it lacks accountability on how funds allocated are being spent.

Meanwhile, Chief Mumena of the Kaonde speaking people in North Western Province is concerned with the inconsistencies that have characterized the constitution making process.

The Traditional Leader notes that the process has taken too long to be completed and has gobbled colossal sums of money.

Chief Mumena has since urged the technical committee to expedite the process as most Zambians are anxious to have a new constitution in place.

The Technical Committee tasked to draft the republican constitution was recently directed by the Ministry of Justice to only print ten copies of the final draft and hand them over to President Michael Sata but refused to do so saying this was against the terms of reference of the technical committee.

  1. Hope it’s a rumour. Mr. Chipenzi, try to confirm your information before rushing to the press. It’s not good to comment on speculations.

    • Chipenzi is a liar because the technical committee has concluded their work and ready to submit the draft constitution to the President.

  2. With PF any thing is highly possible. Good move FODEP for exposing them. May be they will change their minds and release the constitution soon.

Government has rejected a fresh proposal by the Technical Committee Drafting the Zambian Constitution-TCDZC to have a six months extension to the constitution making process.

Justice Minister Wynter Kabimba has maintained that the committee should conclude its programme of work by June 30, as earlier indicated.

Mr. Kabimba says allowing an extension entails that a further 44 million kwacha-rebased will be spent on the constitution building process, through a…

    • Is today 30th June???? If 30th June passed what makes it impossible to extend to some other time. The whole thing is just a another failed PF project.

  4. MACDONALD CHIPENZI – behave responsibly you bunkum. Stop engaging in rumour-mongering without verifying the information. Why didn’t you check you rumour with the government before opening your stinky mouth in public. There is so much indiscipline in Zambia, no wonder foreign investors are having problems with Zambian employees. How do you behave like this and yet you are a Director of a respectable national NGO. This is absolute s.t.u.p.i.d.i.t.y from McDonald Chipenzi. He must realise that he is a leader and is obligated to behave responsibly and not breaking wind carelessly every morning.

  5. Its interesting to see how Chipenzi has become so outspoken, could he doing this for UPND’s interests?. Anyway, one thing I shall never forget is how Chipenzi and others dethroned Alex Ng’oma from the FODEP Leadership , and took chair themselves. I think , the NGOs are pushing the Government too far , its as if they have hijacked the constitution making ,by electing themselves ‘the re

  6. Expose the rats Chipenzi. Good young man. Keep it up. Sata is in the state of euphoria, thinking he is untouchable. Sata is nose-diving, waiting to crash-land.

  7. Ngo ukucilekafye icicine ici pepala. tukala bofyafye icicine cabapo kaili ici kwati cashupa sana. ba sata nabo capalakwati bafilwa. st*****p***

  8. ISLAMABAD (Reuters) – Pakistan moved on Monday to put former military dictator Pervez Musharraf on trial for treason for suspending the constitution and declaring a state of emergency while he was in power.

CAN WE DO THE SAME IN FUTURE ABOUT THESE LEADERS FOR WASTING OUR TIME ON THE CONSTITUTIONAL PROCESS? FOOD FOR THOUGHT.

  9. Sata the chimbwi with no plan is sitting on hot coal. He so afraid of what’s in the constitution hence doing everything possible to temper with it. He’s not credible in anything and everything . Wonder why that doc is married to him. Could she be the one who is more foolish? If he can try to manupulate the making process, what will he do with the elections. Stupid monkey.

  10. How credible is this information? Can Mr. Chipenzi or the government be trusted? No, both cannot be trusted because of the past history. Most times we have received lies, unreliable, manufactured, distorted, twisted or assumed information from the media. The government has failed the Zambian people by not keeping it’s word of releasing the draft constitution to the people and to the president simultaneously. We can not be sure when to trust the media, the government or individuals like Mr. Chipenzi. The government should honour it’s word in regard to releasing the draft to both parties at the same time. We wait for the government to act according to it promise and integrity. It seems both the government and the media lack integrity. When can they be trusted?

  11. That is why I would like to encourage the fight in PF. It is a blessing in disguise. The cartel are leaking corruption in the mafia camp and the mafia camp is leaking such skims by the cartel. Komaki faka moto, dont let the fire stop burning.
