Swine fever outbreak: K25 million set aside for compensation for farmers

Share

Government has set aside K25 million to compensate farmers for the over 25, 000 pigs that have been earmarked for slaughtering due to the African swine fever.

And ZNFU has disclosed that it has attached a seven man team to the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock to expeditiously contain the African swine fever.

ZNFU media liaison Officer Kakoma Kaleyi said the team which was assembled last Friday has been working alongside veterinary officers from the Ministry of Agriculture since Saturday in depopulating areas affected by the disease.

Mr. Kaleyi said in a statement that the ZNFU team will work with the Ministry until the exercise comes to an end.

He has since called on pig farmers to cooperate with government officials undertaking this exercise saying the African swine fever has the potential to wipe out staggering figures of pigs in a very short time if left un-eradicated.

  1. For sure Guy Scot was embroyed in one scander related to swine fever. It happened. If he is in it again, that would not be taken lightly by many people. Can sound a fruit cake.

  2. I think Gov’t want to kill the local pig industry and start importing embalmed foods for us. How come its almost two months now and we have reports of the progress. When are they finishing the murdering of pigs and when do we see embargo lifted on the sale of pigs.
