Black Friday Campaigners appeal to Technical Committee not to compromise on the constitution

Share

The Black Friday Campaigners and other consortia of Civil Society Organizations have appealed to the Technical Committee drafting the Zambian Constitution to stick to its Terms of Reference of submitting the Final Draft Constitution simultaneously to the President and the Citizens if their integrity is to be maintained.

In a statement, Black Friday Campaign Interim Spokesperson Guess Nyirenda says he is aware that the entire committee is faced with a serious challenge of whether to do what is right or wrong.

Mr. Nyirenda says that it is either the committee succumbs to the pressure by the Government to do what is wrong by going against the Terms of Reference which they agreed to follow at the time of commencement of the exercise or do what is right by upholding that which they swore they would.

And Mr. Nyirenda has reminded President Michael Sata, that he has, not only the duty but also an obligation to facilitate Zambia’s delivery of a people driven constitution.

He added that President Sata and the PF should realize that the most crucial benchmarks of their delivery on the promises is the people driven constitution with the 10 basic minimum principles which must be adopted through a referendum.

Mr. Nyirenda has since demanded that the constitution is delivered now.

  1. We just want to warn the Technical Committee that even though they were appointed by Sata, they owe everything to the Zambians because they were not using Sata’s money but tax payers’ money. They must not even allow intimidation by Kabimba and Sata to sway their resolve to doing what is right. The people of Zambia will judge them harshly and hold them accountable if they succumb to pressure and print only 10 copies for Sata and his minions. We shall never forgive you if you allow Sata and his regime to mutilate the constitution making process. We shall classify you as saboteurs and your names will go down in history as selfish Zambians who sold out everyone for allowances. Please stick to the terms of reference and all the Zambians are behind you on this. Don’t allow Wynter to threaten…

    • Indeed, In fact Ernest Mwansa, Its not A DESIRE BUT OBLIGATION to the Zambian people to deliver the new constitution, whose money you are using. It’s not SATA’S money-to start pleading!. Just give the Zambian people the new constitution. WHY start begging the govt to print more copies, just print imwe and upload the soft copy, free access on your wesite capwa!!! What is the fuss about, please deliver! You have done your part, least we start suspecting you too for prolonged eating and bonuses!

    • SATA, WE WANT THE CONSTITUTION BY THE END OF JANUARY 2014 OR ELSE ????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

  2. This Zambia and nothing will be done straight, unless Jesus comes to rule this world then we shall never be happy. These things that we mostly talk about, whose interested are they for? They are in the interest of the elite Zambians. Zambians with financial muscle.

  3. BUT WHY DID THEY ASK GOVT IN THE FIRST PLACE WHEN THEY KNEW THAT THE OWNERS OF THE DOCUMENT ARE THE ZAMBIAN PEOPLE AND THE LAW(TERMS OF REFERENCE) ARE ON THEIR SIDE?THE TERMS OF REFERENCE ARE CLEAR( ie RELEASE DRAFT SIMULTENOUSLY TO PUBLIC AND GOVT).THE TECH.COMMITTEE ARE THE ONES THAT HAVE CAUSED THIS PROBLEM.THIS IS THE PEOPLES DOCUMENT AND IF THEY WANT A PEOPLE DRIVEN CONSTITUTION THEY COULD HAVE JUST RELEASED IT TO THE PUBLIC(THE OWNERS) INSTEAD OF PRETENDING TO BE HEROES HERE WHEN THEY ARE CULPRITS!!!

    • With a US passport, YOU WILL STILL NEED TO APPLY FOR A VISA!!!!! Dual Citizenship doesn’t exempt you from Visa regulations, all it DOES IS ALLOW YOU TO MAINTAIN YOUR ZAMBIAN CITIZENSHIP as well as OBTAIN A SECOND CITIZENSHIP – if you don’t want to apply for visa’s, use your ZED passport!! Which one would hope you haven’t chucked in the bin!!

  4. For the General Public! 10+ million copies + printing allowances!

Why not print a few copies for the powers that be and simultaneously put it on the web, radio, newspapers etc?
Surely that will save costs on stationery, transportation (freight), printing allowances and most importantly on time.

  5. Thanks LT for space. Two comments only:

    1. Government must observe duty of care when it comes to the constitution. Taxpayers money has been spent and as such Zambians deserve to be respected. We want a new constitution the way we want it to be and not how the ruling party wants it.
    2. Introduction of Chinese and use of local languages as medium of instruction in schools should be done logically and systematically with the requisite training. Let the teachers go to China to go learn Chinese and computers (at least they’ll have a chance to jump on an aeroplane which politicians and unproductive senior civil servants us as taxis to move from one foreign country to another). Those who insult the teacher who spoke reason can be forgiven for the ignorance they exhibited publicly. From ZWD.

  6. I meant “(…. and unproductive senior civil servants USE as taxis to move from one foreign country to another)”.
