National boxing team coach Kennedy Kanyanta says he is confident that Zambian boxers will reap medals at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games in Scotland.

The Glasgow Games will take place from 23 July – 3 August.

Kanyanta said local boxers have the potential to win medals at next year’s Commonwealth Games.

He noted that early preparations will be key as the Zambia boxing team aspire to mint medals in Scotland.

“My target is to have two gold medals , a silver and two bronze medals at the Glasgow Games,” Kanyanta said.

“Early preparations are very important in as far as the Commonwealth games are concerned as they are going to give courage to the boxers and the exposure. Early preparations are cardinal for us as they are going to help us reap medals,” he said.

In the recent past Zambian boxers have struggled to win medals on the international front.

  1. Early preparations will be key? So you haven’t yet started preparing for the Glasgow Games and you knew about the games years back? If you chaps think you can win through Dounch Kubeba tricks, it won’t work as your friends are far ahead in preparations. For your information, Scotland completed and tested all infrastructure projects a year before the games start. That tells you how serious governments plan for such events. Had it been in Zed, PF engineers would have still been wiring, mending potholes during the opening ceremony. I pray that you are not now looking for boxing gloves from well wishers.

  2. ..ba Kanyanta sure….how do u target to ‘lose’ ..???..targeting silver and bronze…??…that may just b a reality but should not b the target….target GOLD all the time u have such tournaments….silver..??? y take a boxer rated silver or bronze…? u must carry with u only GOLD rated boxers eeish.. if u have four boxers on your team expect four gold medals as your target period…..the reality may b completely different but aim the highest…..

  3. Ulubuli.. who was that guy who was punched in limbs by a Briton and died at UTH?
