A private initiative to commission an intensive forensic audit into the Trafigura oil procurement contract must be commenced, Zambian Voice executive director Chilufya Tayali has demanded.

Tayali said there is need for government to order an immediate audit of the oil procurement deals currently in existence especially those involving Trafigura.

Tayali said there has been no clear picture of the procurement process of the oil deals in contention and government has continued to remain silent over the matter involving its ministers and the use of public funds.

“It is about time we took a more radical approach to these oil issues concerning government and the use of public funds. We are looking at taking the matter to the Courts to help us compel the government to carry out an audit of the dealings and all matters surrounding it,” he said.

He explained that many concerns have been raised but remain unanswered about Trafigura and its dealings with the Patriotic Front (PF) government.

Tayali said the allegations that Justice Minister Wynter Kabimba and his Midlands Energy Zambia were linked to the Trafigura oil deal were still unclear as there was no official report or explanation given to the people.

He said the Zambian Voice was already making consultations with legal experts on what course of action could be taken to demand for an audit of the current government’s oil procurement procedures for the sake of public interest.

Tayali charged that there had been too much talk over the government oil procurement and that it was about time some action was taken to help put the matter to rest.

Trafigura had been awarded multi-billion Kwacha contracts to supply Zambia with petroleum products for two years, although it was not among the best bidders.

Late Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services Kennedy Sakeni was quoted in the media as saying Trafigura was the most reputable company because it had acquired BP Oil which was operating in the country as Puma Zambia Limited.

Last year, government issued conflicting statements on how much it cost the country to procure 216 million litres of oil from Trafigura

  1. Whoever is Corrupt & depriving Zambia – (Economic sabotage), should be Locked up for very long, irrespective of which political Party they belong.
These cases should be NON BAILABLE, post conviction.
This will teach a lesson to all Corrupt 1diot’s who think they are too slique.
    Muza kamba kusogolo!

  2. Development in zambia kaya. Corruption allegations, inflated projects, inflated costs, externalisation of funds, fired nurses, ethopian lecturers, useless inter and extra party politics (kabimba vs gbm vs lubinda vs etc), hhh denied what, helicopters flying on what, judicially not independent, acc fake and biased investigations, that one isvricher in 1 week, even that one has done what, faz in squables, znbc biased, close that radio station, fire that director, shoprite under paying, chirwa rail project doomed, kavindele rail project nowhere, tribunals, that is convicted today free 2moro convicted the other day over same charge, kwacha failing day in day out in every political since 1991 same stories. 3. It is a big scam and at the centre of this is Mahtani. That Mwenye shall be investigated. He brought in ka Trafigura, Kabimba is used by fat Mahtani. The deal is financed by Mahtani and he charges 100% more interest than that he pays to PTA Bank. Gondwe of BOZ, formerly of PTA Bank, is in league and was rewarded for helping Mahtani to get a line of credit from PTA Bank. They share the loot. GRZ could have borrowed direct from PTA Bank or used NatSave but it would not do that as Mahtani acts as a conduit to steal and arrange payment outside Zambia. Get hold of Charity at Finance Bank and let her parrot.

  4. kabima through mahtani (being the conduit to trafigura) closed the deal with trafigura, so the matrix is like this:?BOZ guarantess FBZ?FBZ issues a DIVISIBLE LC to TRAFIGURA for the total amount plus a % for the UKWA,KABIMBA,MAHTANI?MAHTANI is chewing three first for issuing the LC and the second for cashing in a portion of the LC in one of his OFFSHORE companies?MAHTANI then crooks UKWA & KABIMBA by telling them a SWISS BANKER also needs his % for doing the dirty job and depositing the various amounts into accounts held at CREDIT SUISSE in GENEVA.?By the way the SWISS BANKER is always MAHTANI!!!!!!!!?I hope you all have understood that the biggest criminal is MAHTANI!!!!!

  5. @kariba bull, it is strange z.w.d has allowed your comments on the biggest conman of Zambia. May be they are looking for money and a rejoinder will be published with nobody allowed to comment. Mahtani makes 6% on converting Kwacha into dollars (each consignment is worth 80 million dollars, so he makes 4,800,000 dollars through buying-selling rate difference), then he charges on LC 2% (another 1,600,000 dollars), and then comes 7% interest loading on PTA Bank line of credit rate and what he charges ministry of energy (Indeni/Zam)and Useful *****s do not understand, they deposit money from sales in a current account with Finance Bank but the loan amount is not reduced till the last day when the payment is made to the supplier, another 4% income for Finance Bank on 80,000,000 dollars worth…
