FDD praises opposition MPs

Share

The Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) has saluted opposition Members of Parliament for standing up in parliament to defend the wishes of the people of Zambia.

FDD Spokesperson Antonio Mwanza said Members of Parliament are direct representatives of the people of Zambia and it is their duty to maintain, preserve and defend the interest of the majority Zambians.

Mr. Mwanza said his party is happy that opposition members of parliament stood their grounds to defend the interest of people of Zambia by demanding for the constitution issue to be addressed by government.

He added that this should save as a reminder to President Michael Sata that the protests in Parliament will soon shift to the streets stating that people cannot be taken for granted any longer.

Mr. Mwanza said the Patriotic Front government has no option but to release the final draft constitution to the people of Zambia.

Mr. Mwanza further said that the people of Zambia will continue to demand for what rightfully belongs to them using every possible means until they get the constitution which was promised to them.

  1. Chikankata MP Joshau Lumina andMazbuka Mp Benny mwinga pushed kaunda to repeal article 4 of the constitution which allowed multipartism. Mps can do more to demand for the masses

    • @Sara. For those who are young, google BENNIE R. W. MWIINGA v HONOURABLE GREY ZULU AND HONOURABLE CLEMENT MWANASHIKU AND HONOURABLE FELIX LUPUTA AND DANNIEL MAPIKI SIMOLOKA AND THE ATTORNEY GENERAL (1990) S.J. (S.C.).
The Kaunda regime was extremely vicious with state and community vigilantes. Curfews and blackouts were the order of the day and kuima by air was a common humiliation and assault practice. Kampelwa was not reserved for criminals but anyone who defied UNIP. And Sata was a senior governor in UNIP. Then the winds of change blew and the two sons of the south took up the challenge. The parallel is amazing. Where is the traitor Daniel Simoloka? Where will Daniel Munkombwe be after the new constitution is enacted?

  2. We all salute the opposition parties for siding with the people and the activism at manda hill will go down in history as the turning people in our struggle to appropriate a good constitution.

Good and courageous men are required at times of change and when evil is hell bent to annihilate a people. The USA negroes had martin luther, GBritain had Winston Churchill, France had Charle de Gaulle, South America had Simon Bolivar, Che Guevara et al, Cuba had Fidel Castro, and right at our borders we had the Netos (Angola), Samora Machels (Mozambique), Lumumba (Zaire), Nkomo/Mugabe (Southern Rhodesia); KK, Nkumbula, Chimba, Chikamoneka, Sipalo, Mundia et al(Northern Rhodesia); Biko, OR Tambo, Madiba et al (South Africa). Today its our opposition mps going in the annals of history.

    • You are getting away from the point. You are merely listing names and stating the facts. We need astute men and women with selfless energy to show leadership and mobilise the masses to demonstrate peacefully in highlighting this wrong by the incumbent regime.

    • @One Hit Wonder! I hear you my compatriot. And now I throw the gauntlet…..who will be the Zambian Constitution’s:

      Winston Churchill?
      Martin Luther?
      Che Guevara?
      Samora Machael?
      Vladmir Lenin?
      Augustino Neto?
      Mao Tse-tung?
      Abraham Lincoln?
      Charles De Gaulle?
      Nelson Mandela?
      Steve Biko?

Who will count the value of her/his nation more than their very life? That is the person Zambia needs at the moment. A person who will be true to principle and integrity as the needle is to the magnetic pole. To that person awaits the crown of glory after much tribulation and suffering. Are you the person??!!

  3. @Democratic legal, thank you for the history. This means an united opposition in parliament can cause useless PF govt to give us our constitution.looking forward what will happen on Tuesday in Parliament.VIVA to opposition M.Ps

  4. PF: please resolve the issue. CONSTITUTION, CONSTITUTION, everyday. It’s getting on our nerves. We want to concentrate on getting you back in power in 2016, in 2021, and so on!

    • The constitution has been the nemesis of previous regimes from Kaunda, FTJ, Mwanawasa and Rupiah Banda. It would appear the even today, the constitution may well be Sata’s PF archilles heel.

Like the poisoned apple, the constitution has brought many a giant to vulnerability and ultimate demise. PF will survive many lies and gross negligence. BUT the constitution WILL bring PF down if they do not enact it the way the people want it.

Perhaps no individual was as popular in the early 90s as FTJ. Yet his attempt to mutilate the constitution through the infamous third term bid orchestrated by his Minister of Portfolio and SG of MMD (MC Sata) brought the once charismatic ‘engineer’ Chiluba to an abrupt and shameful end. Sata will not succeed to cheat people now or ever.

  5. Good it came from the spokesperson who most probably was talking from his legs. Nawakwi usually comes out herself.

  6. @ Kulutu: Siding with people… Which people mwe bantu? The trouble in our country is that we have too many self-appointed spokesmen and women. I have not asked anybody to speak on my behalf. When the right time comes, I will speak for myself.
