I’m ready to take on anyone willing to stand against me in an election for party presidency- Nevers Mumba

Dr Nevers Mumba

MMD president Nevers Mumba says his is ready to take on any one willing to stand against him in an election for party presidency.

Speaking in an interview Dr Mumba said he is president of MMD because he was elected and will be available in the next set of elections to defend his position as party president.

He said the constitution of the party protects the actions taken by the members hence no one should feel threatened due to statements they have made as they are at liberty to express themselves.

He said the value and bedrock of the MMD as the most democratic party in the country is that it gives members the freedom to express themselves as long as they do not go against the constitution therefore the calls by members are granted in the constitution of the party.

He said calls for the convention are welcome saying:”The convention is in the constitution, politics is a competitive game and any time an election comes, I went to an election to win this presidency, when the next set of elections comes I will make myself available and that’s just the way MMD goes”.

Dr Mumba was responding to calls from NEC members who are calling for renewal of the party’s leadership due to what they are terming failure by the current leaders.

Earlier in the morning vice president administration Dr Brian Chituwo, speaking at a media briefing said members across the country were calling for new leadership in the party.

He said the leadership should accept that it has failed and that ignoring the calls for new leaders to takeover the party would allow the party to die.

    • ba mumba just pack your bags and leave the seat to someone more vibrant. with you at the helm MMD is condemned to the archives like UNIP. do not force yourself on people who have said they no longer need you. intransigence of such levels will leave you bruised beyond redemption. while you still got a bit of integrity vamoose

    • Good move MMD, replace Dr Mumba so that the one who takes over goes to bed with Sata and the party gets swallowed to give chance to UPND to win the 2016 presidential elections.

Bravo MMD, for giving us some of your members. If Dr Mumba is dropped he is welcome to join UPND and obviously he will bring along many members.

    • Ba MM,ala Politics comes from a Greek word ‘Politik’.It simply means human governance, and not the cheating.the insults going on.the owner of the pipo is God.That’s why God is looking for a man who has the Spirit of God,one after His own heart. That’s why whatever is happening to nevers won’t go any where.God is fighting the battles for him.In fact the. Bible says:’What the devil meant for evil,God turns it for the good’.Just be strong Dr mumba, and remain faithful to God.

    • Failure of the party is due to lack of support for Dr Mumba, primarily because differences were never reconciled after NEC election-splinter groups formed between losers & newly elected NEC members.Apart from PF engineered nullifications of MP seats, what we have seen emerge is that individual MPs with specialist knowledge in fields that add value to the party presidents standing-economics,politics etc have opted for reasons only known to them, to show-off as individuals in the media instead of setting it for Dr Mumba as party president to deliver on behalf of the party as other minor parties do.In this case I refer to Mulusa’s frequent academic style one-man show articles that have done little for party but self, also Musokotwane’s solo response to PF 2013 budget, which should have been…

  1. That is good Dr. Nevers Mumba. Let democracy take its course. Your party so much needs renewal. Let us not hear of excuses again.

    • Any party coming from an else tigon defeat faces a challenge of keeping morale up.The US Republicans felt the same way after 2008 Presidential elections.Internal wrangles of defeated supporters split to create a parallel movement-The Tea Party within the Republican Party.its activities alongside mainstream party clashed on many issues but the core far right message remained intact. So No surprises there with what’s happening in MMD, no matter would led soon after vacating government, cracks would have emerged. It has nothing to do with the opposition leader, instead more to do with attitude of new shadow cabinet, mostly hostile and negative after NEC election result. I can’t begin to imagine any of the candidates that contested the party presidency at the helm of MMD leadership.

    • To start with Situmbeko Musokotwane is a technocrat alright, but nothing more. The man lacks sellable presidential qualities to garner support in the manner of keeping the Party buoyant, it’s not his fault but that’s what it is.Mutati to many would seem a natural successor if it’s not for his chequered CV-long figures and opaque dealings with the Chinese at Commerce. This choice would have been a disaster and the quickest route for MMD’s demise as he carries the largest label of the most corrupt minister under RB.Lucky or smart for him, PF Kaponyas focused on RB and reducing MMD parliamentary seats. Which leaves us with Nevers Mumba. In zambian politics you can’t fault him, he’s clean and unblemished at least for now. His guns are loaded and ready to go but for lack or half-baked…

  2. Well this is how we do it in MMD, everything is by the constitution. Am proud of my party. trying doing that in some personl to hloder parties led by the aged or millionaires and you will get a rude shock.

    • How do you explain FTJ’s failed attempt to change the Constitution to run for a third term? MMD will forever be remembered for corruptly selling off Zambia’s prime assets to foreign “investors”.

    • @MMD Chief Bootlicker
I echo your views 100% and although I am not a member of the MMD, I remain unmoved that judging by facts and performance, the MMD remain (by far) the most progressive party in Zambia and it is therefore my sincere hope that the challneges they are going through will not mean a departure from the tenants of democracy that they have imbedded within their structures.
If Zambians had time to critically analyse politics based on perfomance and democracy, I have no doubt that they would want MMD to remain a major player on the political scene

  3. Lifting you up in prayers. May the divine favour of the Lord be upon you . May it be far much better this time and may the Lord restore everything.

  4. Nevers Mumba AKA Bishop, they are saying that they do not want your kind of leadership. In short, they do not want you sir!
What are you going to defend?
    Kuya bebele.
    Bye

  5. I would rather sleep in a house with a Cobra than with a Python cos the latter will shallow you feet u & toe. .

ARE WE READY FOR AN HABITUAL TRIBALIST WHO OPENLY DISCRIMINATES AGAINST OTHER TRIBES?

In 2009, HH was OPENLY quoted as saying,
“we people from North Western Rhodesia should unite. If we give power to these Bembas, we’ll never get it back?”.

    In 2014,
HH went tribal again in his desperate effort to fish out votes from villagers in Katuba & started addressing them in their language..oblivious of Chibwe, Mutale Nalumango & his Vice president in the entourage!

“Na muntu wafwa pamunshi, wa mukowa wafwa pamushi, mwamana kulila, mbutwakalila kuno kuli ba Chikusu, mulakala nobamukowa kubandika…simulyazhina saa… mulabika mutuba na mulabika wa mukowa?” .

    • Lovely,
      1. HH was making jokes with his cousins when he was in NW province. It was blown out of proportion by useless media. HH is by far the most intelligent president Zambia could have. I know you are struggling to keep some your failing party in power from which you are benefiting from, we are not. On 2 just think, you can never be a ward chairman in Tanzania or congo, Nevers cant be a presidential candidate in Angola. This is what HH meant in Katuba. You are misconstruing things to suit your selfish goal of perpetrating failed leaders. We are tired. We need modernity, newness freshness, civility catch up with rest of world,NOT THIS OPPRESSION by ancient leaders. You can even forgive HH.

  6. I like the way Mumba is doing it so that there is more momentum come 2016 so that the votes are divided among the Bemba speaking folks and will let HH win with big margins, if they let Mumba step down, then Pf will win because our folks will just vote on the basis of tribe not on economic issues affect the rest of Zambia in the current regime. So Mumba get your seat back and let us have HH for 2016 if you remain in MMD seat simple. Wind of change is blowing toward HH. Cartel are afraid of the change, so they have to make MMD weak by removing Mumba. Pls show that you can pray for the people of Zambia and retain your seat so that we have fresh government in 2016 with a vision of prosperity for all not the family tree.

    • (HH) cannot win presidential elections in Zambia but UPND can ascend to power if they realize that UPND is bigger than ka (HH). Do not be intimidated by his millions. Sata was never a millionaire but a true leader and he did it. All you need is an appealing candidate for the masses. If people hate PF as much as online UPND sycophant bloggers portray, like the way all Zambians got fed up of the globe trotter then they will give UPND a vote but not (HH). Choose somebody else.
Begin by capturing more provinces and not just one region of 3 peoples (Bantu Botatwe)

  7. too bad ka pastor, your flock have seen that you are a fraud. every dog has its day nevers, back into oblivion for you. I dont see you surviving this one
from former republican vice president to?

    • I see a pattern here: Pastor – Party President – Republican Vice President – (blimp: ambassador) – Party President – (Pastor – perhaps)??? That should complete this circle. Look at the peak at Republican VP. After than the pattern repeated itself in a downward trend.

  8. Easterners hold an ace card (mpezeni is not one of them) make the Bembas & Tongsas fight amongst themselves……..am just an observe but no matter whatever goes wrong for these guys they will blame easterners for not supporting them “easterners are sellouts”……characters of Lt lets spar……

  9. This is a good bye party. There they go into extinction. Ask UNIP. That funny privatisation, New economic dispensation, third term, etc but above all corruption. You will take years to come back from the back seat if this is not the final nails into MMD coffin. MMD,you have been fired; MMD, you are no more; MMD, you are history.

  10. Dr. Mumba, dont quit, of everyone in MMD, you are the only one with honour and integrity. You have always shown steadfastness in pursuit of your goals, flexibility in how to achieve these goals, courage to make hard decisions and confidence to explain these.

Dont quit on Zambians, on us, who believe in you and expect better leadership. Ignore those who dont know how to produce solutions but have a tendency to call for new elections when they are out of employment.

  11. pipo never wanted mumba except they had to vote for hm because he was supported by RB, the person they respected. this is the product of imposing some on the pipo. RB is really to blame. MMD have learnt a lesson the hard way. good luck mr mumba.

  12. Ba Mumba ,,,what democracy are you talking about ? you have killed MMD on the CB .YOU SUSPENDED all the district executives who tried to put some sense into your selfish head .You are real Dictator i have ever seen . have you ever visited the Districts ? the answer is BIG NO . What can you do with the diehards who know nothing about party organization . time has come for you to go . But again no one is fit to be president in NEC . MMD members just join UPND , MMD is died

  13. It is sad to see some respected leaders in mmd like mr chituwo and mr kaingu tear down their own party. What they are doing is not helping to build the party. After losing elections it was expected that the party was going to face challenges. Leaders in the party should have spent time encouraging one another and their membership. Republicans or democrats in USA have lost elections before. Instead of destroying their own parties they find ways to build them. The problem in Zambia is that ruling parties do not know how to handle loses. This shows that most of our leaders do not have the heart to serve but for their own benefit. Good Leaders ensure that their actions benefit the organisation first. I pray that God will help the leaders to wiser in their words and actions.

    • Democracy is not just about elections. It is also about how elected leaders behave in-between election times. Dr. Mumba, like most Zambian leaders, won the elections and then started expelling those who did not agree with him. He also started sidelining senior MMD members and tried to give jobs to his friends. What he did not realise was that MMD was bigger than him. He was elected to rejuvenate the party, not to seek personal aggrandisement. After months of being in denial, it appears he has now realised that the ground is shifting from underneath his feet. It is a shame really. The goings on in MMD remind me of the British Conservative Party. Woe betide any leader who dares to take the party for granted!

  14. Ba mumba kindly step aside itys good for tho not good for the party.none will up lift the dsads of the mmd its history

  15. Nevers Mumba does not seem to get the message, the majority of Zambians nation-wide have had enough of bemba presidents and want a change. Bemba presidents have done too much damage to the detriment of the rest of Zambians. The MMD are right in their move to eject him.

  16. Very interesting indeed! Isn`t this group in top leadership of the MMD?! If MMD is dying who is killing it? Isn`t the top leadership?!

The major problem with the MMD is that most of the chaps in top leadership are in politics for a living, and e because they are not in government they are struggling to earn a living, so they are selling themselves to PF to destabilize the MMD.

  17. Good to encourage this kind rule of law – and not rule of man – within a political party. In time this will make members begin to focus on party ideology and choose a leader equal to the task, rather than focusing on a individual and choosing a flip-flopping Part ideology to suit that individual’s moods and tantrums.

Having said that, can anyone define what exactly is MMD’s ideology in one sentence?

  18. Mwebalanda pamutundu you are all useless . let us look at some one who can build the econom of this country Yes aim a very proud Bemba no to ways about it.You who insult bembas don’t mention upnd and HH . he accommodates every body . UUli onse kuti ateka ichalo . do not let HH look like a tribalist with your foolish comments . kwindi umo omisha umulongo onse . ulusale lumo , Lona umwanda. mumembe eminine aletelela nabalele.sata natuka ulubemba naiwe utuke ababemba twapapata walailinga akani mwikufi . Eveen as bembas we are for HH unless HH says he does not want us Bembas then we shall form a bemba party

  19. I am surprised that people cannot read what’s at play here. The idea is to replace dr mumba with a non bemba so that the another tribe is chosen to divide the votes for upnd. Pf knows that they can get luapula, muchinga and maybe northern, northern part of central and probably the urban copperbelt not lamba districts. As for western, southern, north western and southern parts of central, parts of eastern and lusaka they will lose to opposition. As long as dr mumba remains mmd president, pf is gone 2016, the post knows this and that’s why they are placing this matter as a top agenda for zambians to be woodwinked into thinking that its internal struggles

  20. Those of you asking Dr Mumba to drop politics and go for that which he was “called” for… have you evidence to that fact? What if him being a pastor was just for a few years? Who are you to speak for him? Let him make his own decisions on his life, no wonder you follow blindly! Dr Mumba go on and shame them, I encouraged Dora to work with the Doc not to go the Putin way! I never support any injustice especially based on baseless reasons!
Am keeping my fingers crossed for you sir! I have a question for you bloggers….. how many people need to paddle the boat in order to escape the high tides? Analyse that and tell me what is wrong with these politicians! They are all the same, next is UPND, wait till they get somewhere, you will see how they will start fighting amongst each other,…

  21. Zambia shall be saved. Removing Mumba from MMD PRESIDENCY is the spelling of MMD complete death. Mark my words. Chituwo is MMD vice president & if things are not right in the part, he should take the blame as well! All MMD NEC members decampaigning Nevers are a bunch of retards decampaigning MMD.
    Zambia shall be saved!

  22. PF has been very quiet and working intelligently using every means to destabilize the opposition.people should learn to read between the lines.look at outcomes in parliament when a matter has come up. the opposition has lost in all debates/motions which has been subjected to votes when the opposition are over 70 members in parliament .They have lost because of not reading between the lines. Their judgment has always been wrong making it Extremely very impossible for the opposition to win 2016 elections.people that are anti Bemba will never ascend to power unfortunately. my Advice to DR Mumba is to keep pressing and strategies, there is hope.

  23. Mumba needs to go. He was crowned not elected. I just dont know what some people within the MMD see in him. This guy was Vice president once only to mess up. He doesnt have the killer instinct required for politics. His all talk and no action an empty guy with no substance at all. Some people are obsessed with this guy because he was a pastor and hence see him has God appointed etc. There are other people within the party more competent than this guy. Time for new blood instead of a failed vice president.

  24. All MMD NEC members against Nevers are traitors! They are sponsored by the pf to overthrow Nevers.
Pathetic retards! MMD continue with your pathetic acts & u ll be indirectly campaign ing for upnd!

  25. Mumba is far much better than some pathetic fools pf leaders connected and sponsored by Sudanese terrorists. These pf are capable of causing civil war wktb the terrorists connections. Atleast Mumba fears God. Zambia shall be saved.

    • This is the problem we have in MMD. People like you think that Mumba is a better leader based on the fact that his a pastor and hence a child of God. The same sought of treatment was afforded to Chiluba….he made zambia a christian nation etc…But where did that get us. Nothing but incopetent leadership followed by grand corruption on a high scale. I am not PF and franlky dont care about what they are trying to do. But Mumba is not presidential material. I think RB should come back he has better chance of been elected than Mumba.

  26. That’s a true democrat better than some pretentious cobra led party where one dictator has led PF for 10+ yrs without even a modicum of internal democracy. PF ni chama cha mashetani wenye roho ngumu ,uongozi mbaya na sera duni za kiuchumi.

  27. MMD wil definately replace Nevers with someone more progressive and give HH shivers!HH should not celebrate because the MMD will give him less nghts. The trampets and paid tribalists have already started speculating that MMD members will join the UPND after Nevers is replaced!I dont think the MMD is wiling to be swallowed by a regional tribal directionless party led by a dictactor who has made it clear that only he and nobody else must be the president of UPND!Those who keep thinking that HH will be president in 2016 must be living ina dry dreamland!HH is a novice in politics and he needs time to mature and be ready to run a country.Zambia is not a farm! !

  28. No more cantankerous political scientists from Chinsali, twacula pafula! All one needs is just to listen to Mumba speaking about the Zambian economy to realize that he is gravely shallow intellectually and all there is in him is pomposity and kulimonesha-ta!

    • Intelligence alone cannot change Zambia, but intelligence with performance can. In short Zambia does not need intelligent leaders but needs intelligent leaders who are performers.

  29. Pf gov has failed miserably! Upnd is promising party – My woryy is – is HH a Christian? Sata is not Christian, he promised great things and has divered non! He has actually u-turned. Can we really trust HH? Supposed he u-turns like sata! Can we really entrust him with our country solely based on his promises, intelligence and the way he articulates issues? What is HH stance in to
God? I am not sure! But I am sure Mumba is a christian, he fears God, so even when he ascends to power he ll not only be answerable to zambian people alone, but to God as well. Mumba therefore, standout to be the best choice for the republican president. “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord” when the righteous rule people rejoice. For zambia to rejoice we need a God fearing man.

  30. As far as it affects me, we should also call for by-election in the constituence where Dr. Chituo has been an Mp for a good numbrr of year. he as failed d pipo, 4 instance d area as only one sec school with 4 clases & is aware of dat but as done nothin, no clinic & so many thns.. its time he oso resigns on moral grounds

  31. I hope Zambians will not reduce themselves to thinking there is any hope in MMD. That party should go down the UNIP way. Zambia needs new people with new ideas, the Chituwo’s and their bandwagons must just retire and concentrate on farming while we prepare to send PamaFi into extinction in 2016! Mumba go back to mislead those blind people in the church I’m sure they will appreciate your services.

  32. unfortunately, most people online don’t bother to do indepth analysis of issues. UNIP did not die a natural death, it was killed by KK when he engineered the hounding out of one brilliant leader called Kenny Musokotwane. UNIP had started regaining momentum prior to the 1996 elections. Disillusionment with the privatisation by the then MMD Govt had lead to massive frustration. I was in Ndola at the time and saw the city degenerate from “the industrial hub” of Zambia to an empty shell. MMD, on the other hand, made sure UNIP did not resurrect. The situation with is MMD different in that it is a democratic party and will come out of this strong because it left a strong economic base, even though many citizen still needed to benefit from the positive ecenomic fortunes. Don’t compare apples…

  33. Lunatics / turncoats such as Brian Chituwo must give serious thought to their actions. Some of us live and work in democrat societies where both the ruling party and opposition parties are functional. I have never witnessed a scenerio where opposition wake up one morning and insist their leader must surrender power. Remember how UNIP messed their chances by grabbing power from Kebby Musokotwane. Chituwo, Dora, Mulusa think before you open your mouths. Tilyeji thought he would rejuvenate UNIP but alas the party is dead for ever. Learn to be patient give Nevers Mumba a chance.

  34. Bakaamba, kwati yala mikosela! Being a victim of fire from within your own party, or as they in the military, a victim of friendly fire! Yaba.. What a way to go.

  35. Rupiah is coming back. The Chinese,Nigerians, Italians and Australians are funding him. With all his weaknesses he was very prolific on creating jobs and conducive environment for growth.
