Veteran retired politician Vernon Mwaanga says his is puzzled by new culture that President Michael has adopted of humiliating Cabinet Ministers in public.
President Sata has been recently quoted as describing his Ministers as being useless some weeks after he referred to his Members of Parliament as being useless as they are allegedly failing to do their jobs.

But Mr. Mwaanga has supported the view that such public reprimanding is undermining public confidence in the Ministers themselves as well as lowering their morale to perform.

Mr. Mwaanga also notes that by referring to his Ministers as being useless it also reflects badly on the appointing authority himself as people begin to ask as to why he appointed them if they are useless.

The veteran retired politician has advised that there are better ways of giving advice to Ministers in terms of asking them to improve on their performance or correcting whatever mistakes that have been detected as opposed to criticizing them in public.

He has told Qfm news that much as the precedent has been set by previous Presidents who also rebuked erring Ministers, it is important that such counsel is given away from the public so that any erring Ministers learn from their mistakes in order to serve the people of Zambia better.

  1. How do you start teaching a form 2 performance management and adminstration? Lets try to advise, teach, educate but is tough. Bali kowela batata aba, teti basambilile. I feel so annoyed that i wasted my vote just like that in 2011. Never again. And the useless MPs and Ministers are hanging in there? Stranded!

    • @ James,
While I cringe in my skin each time I see that video were Mr Zulu was disrespected by our president, I dont agree with you that education level has anything to do with etiquette and courtesy! My wisdom has alerted to me that Etiquette and courtesy is naturally in bred and measures according to environment and culture as well as status! It can also be learned but never graded in terms of education for education is aquired in many forms at different levels and stages. Therefore, I would say ettiquecy and coutersy is directly related to discpline and respect as well as personal traits and personality that is embeded in us with regard to environmental and health.
Otherwise, our culture takes the blame if you ask me!

  2. But even the vice president said Lubinda is a dog with bone without taste. Kabimba also said PF is full of tribalists. Auto destruction mode.

  3. One of the biggest challenges faced by Zambia is the poor work culture. Zambians are generally lazy. And always expecting an easy ride to prosperity. Keeping up appearances even with naught. The presidents utterances are borne out of frustration due to the lack of seriousness and input from his minister. He appointed them in good faith, and in the belief they would deliver in accordance to the populaces expectations based on what PF promised.
And being what our president is, hard working and forth right it can only be expected that he will call a spade a spade in public or other wise. They deserve to be chastised.

    • Ash you guys who support Sata just amaze me – ati appointed them in good faith! What nonsense – problem is the appointing authority. Full stop! No democracy in PF everything revolves around Sata. How can people perform: dog chasing its tail. Pls improve you analytical tools!

    • Correct to the point.
Most of our Zambian friends have not ventured out to see how other people take work seriously. Kenyans work much harder than us worse stillTanzanians.
There is also too much dependence in our country.
I can do the same to some of these people to just make them work.
They don’t even know how to cost their in-put.

  4. This is the same style of leadership as Idi Amin Dada.
You can see Amin’s Press conference in Barbet Schroder’s Documentary on Dada which can be accessed on You Tube. Amin publicly rebuke’s his government official’s, & they end up Dead.
The Style of leadership, & lack of social ettiquette are so similar, one would conclude, had our Sata been leader in the 70’s when African leaders ruled with impunity, Zambian’s who oppose Sata would have been found floating in the Kafue, Luangwa, chambeshi, or Zambezi river’s.
Good luck Zambian’s, with this uncouth man!

    • Sata did not usurp power through a coupe so really how can you compare our president Sata to the likes of Idi Amin?Come on Zambians employ your intellect.

    • @Ulemona
I fail to see your argument. So you are suggesting he appointed them out of malice? I will tell you this, Sata is what Zambia needs, if you fully understand the Zambian psyche.

    • Sata is what Zambia needs? So how effective will this style of leadership be seeing he only comes out twice a month from the hole he has buried himself in mu state house? As a president he is supposed to be continously monitoring progress under all ministries with periodical weekly updates reaching his office. Him calling his ministers useless means he never keeps tabs on how the country is running and only makes these realisations when he swears in someone. One ka rebuke and back mubwendo and you think this country will go anywhere? Am really baffled at you guys who defend this guy coz you seem learned and must understand how Strategic management operates! You truly puzzle me.

  5. They are useless for sure look at the free falling kwacha. No one to rescue it and yet people are fattening their buttocks on tax payers funds directors inclussive non productive.

  6. We don’t really want to hear any of this from any of you fellas. VJ don’t crawl into a hole somewhere as Nubian Princess suggests, crawl into State House which I think you can well do for a quiet word for us to only see a sign of reason prevailing. Alternatively tell your folks to call it a day so that our coutry can change course. Am in!!

  7. Maybe Sata has released that these fellas are in govt to steal and not work for the people or he is surprised how stupidly they say yes to everything that he tells them to do.

  8. Iwe game meat you are crazy!:-) @ he is surprised how stupidly they say yes to everything that he tells them to do. Lol

  9. Just wait and see what will happen as we draw near 2016 how we will abandon this man the way KK was abandoned in 1990 for a sensible leadership and party . It is just a matter of time and once parliament is dissolved and we have our gratuity, we will jump off the sinking boat. A number of my coplleagues at cabinet and deputy minister levels are already contemplating this move. We have a disaster at state house and have become a laughing stock internationally when we meet with other nations’ ministers.

  10. Regardless of his shortcomings,VJ,will be the best person to serve as Chief of protocol, press, and political affairs to Mr.Sata because of his vast experience, their past comradeship and his age will make it easier to advise Mr. Sata.
    Not george chella.

  11. VJ I ALWAYS THOUGHT YOU WERE AN ASTUTE AND SHREWD PERSON.
SURELY HOW CAN YOU BE SUPRISED?
    WHAT ELSE DID YOU EXPECT??

  12. A SPADE MUST BE CALLED A SPADE WHEREVER, AND AT WHATEVER TIME. BURRYING ONE’S HEAD IN THE SAND WONT DO ZAMBIA ANY GOOD. MICHAEL SATA IS FRANK AND THAT WHY I PERSONALLY LIKE HIM. ZAMBIANS ARE TOO LAZY BUT AT THE SAME TIME WANT TO BE PAID HUGE SALARIES. ZAMBIANS SHOULD EMMULATE NIGERIANS (NOT IN BEING CROOKS) IN TERMS OF HARD WORKING IF THEY REALLY WANT ZAMBIA TO DEVELOP. HOW COME MPs and MINISTERS HAVE OFFICIAL VEHICLES BUT DON’T VISIT THEIR CONSTITUENCIES TO MONITOR DEVELOPMENTAL PROJECTS, AND GOVERNMENT PROJECTS? BUT USE THE SAME VEHICLES AS TO SLAUGHTER WOMEN.
