70% of girls in Solwezi still fall pregnant after re-entry into school.

About 70 percent of pupils that are re-admitted after falling pregnant at Mwajimambwe Primary School in Chief Mumena’s area in Solwezi district fall pregnant again.

School Head Teacher Titus Kikolomo said some school girls are reported to be abusing the re-entry policy that government has put in place to help them complete their education despite falling pregnant.

Mr Kikolomo said some girls are abusing the policy hence the need for government to attach a limit to the number of times one can be re admitted back into school.

He said the policy will only work effectively if there are limits.

Mr Kikolomo was speaking yesterday when a parliamentary committee on legal, human rights, and governance and child affairs visited Chief Mumena yesterday.

He said the re-entry policy is a good policy as it accords girls to complete their education despite the circumstances they find themselves in.

The head teacher added that the re-entry policy was somehow breeding indiscipline in some of them.

The committee was in the chiefdom to interact with Chief Mumena and his subjects on how Gender Based Violence is being addressed in the area.

  1. This is where Mulusa should exerting his energy and time educating the young about the importance of school, instead the guy is wasting fighting Dr. Mumba to please Membe and Kabimba. What a shame!

  3. We copied and pasted the idea from some country where it works but didn’t research our communities. This is the price we are paying

  5. What sort of a s.t.u.p.i.d adult is this head-teacher who can say the school girls are abusing the law. Since when did children become adults? Is he telling us that all the adults in Solwezi are failing to control the behaviour of their own children? This is the problem in Zambia. Every time, adults blame somebody else for the problems they are facing: talking too much and always complaining all the time, but no time to think about solutions. How can an entire community of adults FAIL to address a re-offending problem among their own girl-children, and now they are beginning to blame the children. What king of s.t.u.p.i.d.i.t.y is that? I know that by tomorrow, the problem will be now blamed on PF and Sata!

  6. introduce family planning in schools for all willing girls who have reached bearing age. Some of them do these things for survival due to poverty. I think boys shd all also be punished in some way to deter them frm impreg girls.

  7. This whole re-entry policy is not working. That is why I support Catholic and other mission schools on this matter. These girls must be taken to a special school where their fellow mothers are also students. Putting them in conventional schools just pollutes the other innocent girls. Period.

  8. Very sad affair. The problem with most young girls is lust for expensive things that parents or guardians cannot afford! Secondly! A lot of the young generation want to experiment with their bodies what they see on internet and films! Parents and guardians on the other side should know that they have an obligation to bring up the young ones with morals. Unfortunately, some parents and guardians are bad examples!
