South MMD rejects calls for extra ordinary convention, describe such calls as baseless

Share

THE Movement for Multi-Party Democracy (MMD) has rejected the calls from some senior party members to hold an extra ordinary national convention to elect new leaders.

MMD Southern Province chairperson Oliver Pelete said the position of the party in the province was that calls for the convention were baseless because there was no crisis in the former ruling party.

Mr Pelete said in an interview yesterday that the provincial leadership had already written to the party secretariat in Lusaka that it was not in support of hosting an extra ordinary national convention.

“The reasons that have been advanced by those championing the hosting of the national convention don’t hold any water.

“For instance, you cannot blame one individual such as MMD president Nerves Mumba for our failure to win by-elections,” Mr Pelete said.

He said MMD was not the only party which was losing by-elections opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) and ruling Patriotic Front (PF) were also losing some by-elections.

“We have won some by-elections and lost some and this is the trend with UPND and MMD so you can’t blame an individual,” Mr Pelete said.

He said Southern Province was solidly behind the leadership of Dr Mumba as he was the correct leader.

“If MMD has to win the 2016 elections, we need Dr Mumba to remain as party president. Further, Zambia is a Christian nation and we need a man of God if we are to succeed as a party,” Mr Pelete said.

Recently, MMD vice presidents Michael Kaingu and Brian Chituwo as well as party spokesperson Dora Siliya called for the holding of the extra ordinary national convention to choose new leaders.

    • This baseless call for a convention is water under the bridge. We are hearing it because MMD is a democratic party open to every voice. Otherwise, its a kitchen sink material hard to sale. its a poorly schemed act of aberration tasked on wrong agents. No serious patriot would move on the rattles of those calling for a convention.

I’m only disappointed with Dr. Brian Chituwo an intellectual i have known and respected for ages since his days in the combat. Posterity may harshly judge these acquired agents of kabimba whose dream for presidency ends with the humiliating defeat of PF Pa Chidindo (Decision 2016).

    • Dr.Chituwo and Dr.Simbao are a real let down. One would expect doctors to have functioning medulla oblangata’s. It’s people like them that caused the unwashed masses in 2011 to vote illiterates into government. Thumbs up to MMD in Southern province! Let the rotten fruits leave the MMD.We need to restore confidence in Zambia’s intelligentsia and we need a good opposition party to uphold our democratic values.

    • @Ex-moma, Simbao is not a Dr., he is an engineer. He does not even have a PhD. He is just Kapembwa Simbao.

    • These are the people who have trust in God.Tell me,H
how can the Almight God abandon people who have trust in him?God will never abondon who ever acknowledges Him.Hats for you mr Pelete….Viva Dr Mumba…..

    • United we stand, divided we fall! Way to go MMD you are proving the critics wrong, success is the best medicine for revenge keep it up!

  1. OPEN LETTER TO DR. NEVERS MUMBA

Mr. President Sir, MMD should get rid of bad elements if it has to win the confidence of the Zambian people. Sir the recent outburst by Dr. Kaingu, Dr. Chituwo, Dora Siliya, Kapembwa Simbao and Lucky Mulusa is a clear indication that these are elements that should be expelled from the party with immediate effect. I appeal to you Sir that you call for an urgent NEC Meeting and expel these disgruntled members forthwith. They are corrupt and do not mean well to the party. They have been holding dark corner meetings with PF with the view to finish MMD. They are selfish who eat nshima with both hands. If possible let the youths drag them out the way they did to Major Richard Kachingwe. We need disciplined party leaders and not those who can easily be bribed.

    • Spot on @ Lukuku, in fact if all parties deatl with their rotten nuts like China deals with its criminals, we could have seen how Zambia could have grown in many ways. Dr Mumba…. it’s time to stop being “nice” deal with these guys immediately for it is not only you the interest of your party at stake here, but every dreaming and ambitious Zambian!
Lukukus “letter” shouldnt be a plea, you are expected to impart descipline the hardest and hashiest way when needed. There is no exception…… deal with them sir point blank period!

  2. Tongas are always progressive and never swayed by their stomachs and this is a demonstration of clear and intelligent thinking.
The Chairman has explained the thinking behind the decision – can you trust Dora, Kaingu and Chituwo more than Dr Mumba? Of course NO – let them go to hell!

  3. DORA ,KAINGU, CHITUWO,MULUSA,SIMBAO CAN NOT SURVIVE IN A CLEAN MMD.

THERE HANDS ARE DIRTY WITH CORRUPTION AND BRIBERY.

DR MUMBA IS CLEAN, SINCE THE HEAD IS CLEAN ,THE BODY NEEDS TO CLEAN.
    DORA,AND TEAM SHUD LEAVE.

  4. Can MMD NEC hold an urgent meeting with one agenda which should read “Justification for the holding of an Extra Ordinary Convention to elect new NEC members”.
At his meeting the proponents of this confusion should be allowed to justify their call for the removal of President Nevers Mumba. It is at this meeting that if the motion to hold an Extra Ordinary Convention is not carried, this topic should be buried and anybody there after who raises it should be shown the door.

    • Ba Maureen,if you’re truthful, you can recall that after the loss of MMD in 2011,not any of the current proponents of the removal of Dr Mumba could have made MMD to last this long. The coming of Dr Mumba has brought hope in MMD.Let us not play politics of popularity at the expence of real issues.Dr Mumba has not failed,if anything he has added value to the party. The corruption and arrogancy tag of MMD shall continue haunting the party long as the likes of immoral Dora hold such senior positions in the Party.Weeding-Out and Cleansing time has come within the Party. You can not put” New wine into Old skin”,the Bible says.

  5. It is very unfortunatly pipo are protrecting Dr. Mumba WHEN THEY KNOW VERY WELL THAT HE HAS FAILED. U DOT need to be a Profesor to see the failures of this Dr. Mumba, hw can someone say this man will win elections in 2016 when he has been the President of MMD for 2 years he has not evenvisited his own DISTRICT CHINSALI on party organisation, he only went to CHINSALI for a funeral. These are realistic indicators that this man has failed. This OLIVER PELETE is a PF MOLE we know what he is doing with PF in Livingstone everyday, this is the reason why normaly thinking MMD members are saying some parties are happy MMD to have a weak President in name of DR. MUMBA becasue they are benefiting from his weakness, it is common sense UPND has taken more pipo from MMD bcoz of weak leadership

    • Mumba has not failed, he is just the leader at the time MMD is on it belly. Give MMD and Mumba time to recover, Zambians we need to look beyond this day and progress as such. Let me remind you that looking at just the happenings of the day for decision making is dangerous, basis of troubles Zambia is facing now. PF promised instant solutions to Zambia’s problem, 90days theory. What has been the result other than the weak kwacha, which will soon be followed by high cost of living and more people pushed into poverty. Dora is just in trouble for chewing wrong money from that news paper editor at the corner of that road….

    • Maureen, who in your opinion should take up the position of president in MMD?
Is it any of the 2 veeps or dora or is it Mulusa?

    • zed@crossroads, so refreshing to see that their are still people your kind of soberness and long term thinking in Zambia. Probably this sata disaster is going to bring out more forward thinking and critical Zambians and make them less and less gullible.
