MMD Vice President Michael Kaingu has revealed that his relationship with party President Nevers Mumba has soured due to Dr Mumba’s alleged huge ego.
Dr Kaingu said his group is determined to push for a convention in order to remove Dr Mumba and restore the party’s leadership.
He said Dr Mumba has neglected the party structures and does not consult his colleagues in the National Executive Committee before carrying out any projects in the party.
Dr Kaingu was speaking when he appeared on a live Sunday Interview TV programme on ZNBC.
“He has ignored the structures. He has only chosen to work with some social misfits such as Lusambo, Kadobi and Nakachinda. Just listen to the names, these are misfits and he has chosen to work with them at the expense of our party structures,” Dr Kaingu said.
“He has unconstitutionally suspended our officials on the Copperbelt and Northern Province. He has not even written any letters of suspension and this is unconstitutional and this is the reason why I have told the officials to go back to work and ignore the suspensions,” he said.
Dr Kaingu said Dr Mumba has failed to provide leadership in the MMD because he allegedly lacks adequate connectivity to attract funding to the party.
He said MMD requires a leader with enough connections in order to bring in resources to the party.
“He has failed to attract funding to the MMD. He promised that he will use his global connections to bring in resources but he has lamentably failed. 2016 is approaching and MMD will be lucky to even win a seat in Parliament and if that was to happen, it won’t be down to Dr Mumba’s leadership but to individual brilliance of the candidate,” Dr Kaingu said.
He added, “Dr Mumba is not a team player. He is self-centered. He travels in the night and avoids meeting our structures. If he travelling to Kitwe, he will start off at night. What kind of a President travels at night? He needs to move during the day so that he could stop over at Katuba, Chisamba, Kapiri and Ndola and meet party structures on his way to Kitwe.”
Dr Kaingu also allegedly that Dr Mumba has not been declaring the funding he receives in the name of the MMD to the party’s leadership.
“We know he has travelled outside the country 15 times but he doesn’t declare what he is given to the party. The MPs have a standing arrangement to contribute K2, 500 monthly to the running of the party and we are now fatigued. Dr Mumba wants to run the party as if he is already a Republican President, he has to go.”
Dr Kaingu further revealed that he will gladly leave the MMD if Dr Mumba was to re-elected at the national convention if it is held.
“I will leave it to him. For me it’s not about the Presidency. I know I don’t have the capacity to run the MMD but I want the party to choose the best person to manage the affairs of the party. We have to go for the convention,” Dr Kaingu stated.

Using a notoriously coined name like Scorpion, for sure makes one a misfit. I am still struggling to make sense of Kaingu’s timing and logic for the sick he’s just spewed. There is nothing other than the success of Dr Nevers Mumba’s national tour that is proving painful on PF backside as we’ve all noticed.Given that Kaingu has been paid to destabilise MMD,Nevers and team must not expend their energy answering to outburst of an exposed traitor who has no shred of political credibility left in him. Kaingu must know that If he decides to go, he will neither be missed nor remembered. And if he chooses to stay, he wont be noticed.In short he’s irrelevant in the current context of MMD discourse and direction Mumba has rightly opted.

I watched Kaingu last night, absolute poor performance, he was incoherent, unintelligent and somewhat tipsy. couldn’t believe this man was once a cabinet member advising on the direction of this country. I kept wondering if came to the interview a little drunk. If I was in MMD and undecided between the two camps, I would join the Muhabe team.

watching Dr Kaingu yesterday demonstrated how far backward our society has gone or hasnt grown. surely this is a PHD holder demonstrating such myopic and self centred views on his colleague. if the MMD president is such a failure, then why dont you resign instead of him because i believe its this team that is pushing for the convention that is a failure. you want to do the same things that made you lose the last election and want to expect a different result! most of these individuals are rich because of the parliamentary gratuities and now that they are rich, they think they know it all. i listened to the parliamentary debate on the constitution and how this man derailed the dignified debate by Gary Nkombo. i hope MMD removes such type of people from its leadership same as PF.

You should resign as MMD vice president and wait for his opportunity when the next hold a convention. Otherwise, he should show loyalty to the current President and the right hand Man that he has been selected to be. He should raise issues internally through the party structure and provisions and not in the media. If democracy isnt working for him then he should consider the many political parties in the nation that do not practice democratic principles and have had the same leaders from inception. I had sympathised with Nevers at the the beginning of this debacle, but now that he is attacking his fellow opposition members like the UPND, Iam fast losing respect for him. MMD still has structures around the country but that does not gaurantee victory in an election.

What Kaingu has pointed out is endemic in Zambian leadership across the board. There are few leaders (perhaps Mwanawasa) who led the nation by actually respecting the constitution. These others have literally led by decree. Remember MMD ran as a party without paying its dues? Remember Masebo has recently been cleared on the narrow premise of ‘pecuniary gain’ when the actual abuse of office has conveniently been sidestepped? Look at GBM cleared of misdeeds until he resigned? Governance missteps start from bad handling of political parties such as is being alluded to here.
The problem with Kaingu is that he spent too much time as a Corporal in the Zambia Air Force. When everyone else was progressing in rank, he remained a Corporal and this therefore, explains his thinking. Absolutely no logical progression of thought. PhD? My foot.

The culture of violence that the PF and its bandits have introduced in this country is a very sad development. Elizabeth Chitika said Chiluba said it in 2001 that i cant give the Presidency to Sata; “teti asunge abantu, kuntu abapatanya” and here we are. I am very upset that innocent citizens are being harrased just for belonging to a different party. Chili ndwii mu state house and very primitive as usual. wake up and start leading, iwe chi Sata. Very disappointed with my uncleon this one but being a polygamist and business person, this does not surprise me. Zambians should carefully analyse the turn of events, he was given coverage because his agenda was in line with PF. It pains me to see elders who demonstrate such desperation, it is even worse to see a Lozi and my uncle doing such. Dr. Kaingu has just disqualified himself and aligned himself to a cult that would do anything for me. Gone are the times when people voted for money. PF did not win because of cash – Zambians have more money than stolen wealth. Zambians need an effective leader – that is why HH with all his money has not won an election.
