THE United Party for National Development (UPND) has urged MMD president Nevers Mumba to concentrate on quenching the fire that has currently engulfed the former ruling party as opposed to attacking innocent outsiders like the UPND.

UPND secretary general Winstone Chibwe said in an interview that Dr Mumba had enough enemies at present and should therefore concentrate rebuilding friendships.

He was reacting to Dr Mumba’s remarks in some sections of the media yesterday that UPND cannot win in 2016.

Mr Chibwe said UPND was not in contention with MMD but PF which was a party in Government.

“For us, we are not in contention with MMD but PF which is the party in Government. We can only advise Dr Mumba that he has made enough enemies so he should just concentrate on quenching the fire within his party.

“Our target at present is the PF, which is in Government but if Dr Mumba wants to fight both PF and UPND, he is welcome,” Mr Chibwe said.

He said Dr Mumba had no support from his two vice presidents and some other prominent MMD members therefore he should not go outside the MMD to destabilise other political parties.

Mr Chibwe said the UPND had no time for Dr Mumba as it was concentrating on organising the party.

He said Dr Mumba should wait for 2016 in order to know which political party was more popular in Zambia.

[pullquote]“I think it will be very complicated for UPND to find the numbers to hit 40 or 42 per cent of the vote that is needed to form government,” he said.[/pullquote]

On Friday, MMD president Nevers Mumba said that MMD had a more statistical advantage to win the 2016 general elections than UPND. R. Mumba said the UPND did not have adequate numbers to win a general election but that MMD was still popular in most regions of the country citing Northern, Muchinga, Copperbelt and North Western provinces.

“We think that of the three major political parties, MMD has more statistical chances of forming government than either PF or UPND. And I think that in the PF, you find a similar problem because of under-performance. I think MMD has enough tentacles across the country with a proper campaign that we are putting up to be able to go beyond 42 per cent of the vote,” he said,

Mumba said statistically, MMD stood as the strongest party of choice for Zambians in 2016 and that the party would go on a country-wide tour to rally support and reaffirm its commitment to the people.

“I think it will be very complicated for UPND to find the numbers to hit 40 or 42 per cent of the vote that is needed to form government,” he said.

And Dr. Mumba said he would not sit back and watch UPND destroy MMD structures in North Western Province.

“We will not sit back and watch UPND coming to convert our structures here. This is our stronghold. North Western has always been conservative. It will take 10 years for it to change to another political party. If HH Hakainde Hichilema comes here and I see that our position is threatened, that time I will even start learning Kaonde,” said Mumba as the MMD members cheered him.

He said Zambians should not try to vote UPND into power because they would regret experimenting like they were doing with the PF. According to Mumba, UPND could try to do many things to get into power but it would fail because Zambians were fed up with experimenting and wanted to go back to MMD which they knew very well.

  1. Ba Mumba tamwakatekepo. Nangu mukapange imbi political party.
If upnd wont win in 2016, mmd wont..
So stop lying to yourself. The way you are sayin tell me that your party has completely been submerged

    • that report claiming that Dr Mumba attacked UPND is from Mmembe and his Post,,,,, Mmembe`s intention is to cause cause division and fights among oppostion parties,,,,, personally reports from the post, i take them with a pinch of salt and chilli

    • Hypnotized Mind – Do not believe you can fall for the Past Toilet Paper’s lies.

How I wished Winstone Chibwe didn’t say anything. These are all concocted lies, the fortunate thing is people now have started seeing who the Hypocrite is.

    • UPND look like cornered rodents that have been given a lethal dose of thalium.

Nevers Mumba is correct. there is no way UPND can win with a rotten head at the helm while peddling a tribal pedestrian agenda. if UPND wants to be taken seriously, it must reform and remove its rotten head, have a national character, appear and development agenda among others.

Otherwise audition for lies propaganda documentaries like your nondescript, opportunistic bantu 3 regional leader has been attempting lately

    • I agree with Mumba UPND will never rule. They will just keeping on hoping and hoping like they have been doing from 2001.It is a party of jokers,by the jokers and for the jokers and led by a joker.

    • ba @sauliso na @Gen, mulekwata ko insoni. ati UPND will never rule Zambia, when it starts ruling in 2016 where will you go? remain in the diaspora cleaning butts? here on the ground the only alternative we are looking at is UPND and not failed leaders like mumba whose record is a disaster. you should take time off and visit home to see for yourself the situation here. it is UPND in Lusaka, copperbelt, northwest, west, eastern, central, southern. be realistic bane, this time we are not going to vote on tribal lines but quality. good luck

  2. Can both of you opposition parties keep cool.Nevers Mumba your target is the development of Zambia.Your party was in government for 20 years and we have seen the positives and negatives.
We have the chief liars in government in the name of axis of evil in government with all manner of suppression, intimidation and oppression who continue to intimidate Chiefs,Headmen,Bishops, opposition, radio station, news papers and now public universities.
can you concrete on mobilizing your parties in the current hostile environment without fear or favor as God the almighty is watching for deliverance.
Better alone than in the company of bad friends.

    • I urge these 2 political parties to instead consult each other instead of responding in the press. Let’s have maturity in the opposition, leadership that doesn’t fall for lies.

Let the Past Toilet paper remain as is, in the Past.

  3. Going by previous general elections Nevers is right. The game if numbers is real. Unless UPND manages to grab, steal, convince or entice more voters from other parties, its voters number is not large enough to win. They should work on recruitment. But going by their peeceived bitterness, derogatory, insults, belittling or denouncing leadership to foreign countries, I doubt their voter numbers will swell drastically. Win hearts and minds of MMD voters to join you, but this is now causing Nevers to speak against UPND. Anyhow, MMD has had a lot of members, other parties have targeted recruitment from MMD. Which ever party appeals will attract MMD voters. UPND you are not alone in distabilising MMD, knowingly or unknowingly.

    • You’re really angry ! UPND will continue hammering at the incompetence of Sata and his useless Ministers. And why are you and Mumba so concerned about UPND not winning the 2016 elections? What has it got to do with you? Why are you so bitter over this issue? No my dear you’re packing come 2016. We are tired of your misrule and criminal behaviour.

    • Mitchie – Truth be told UPND may not win in 2016, in it’s current form. I do not see UPND getting numbers away from there traditional strongholds. UPND has simply not sold itself well in other provinces.

In the current state the PF will equally not have the numbers needed, I do not see where the numbers will come especially with all the confusion taking place.

    • @oldruggs you are busy contradicting yourself, be analytical in your assessment. if pf does not command the numbers to remain in govt, you are saying those numbers that made them win have shifted camp, so which camp? certainly not MMD, may NAREP. this is the answer you should look for. for sure pf is out and for good. it will die a worse and sudden death than UNIP

    • Matipa – am with you. Consistent with what I said is PF has lost legitimacy to rule, but again UPND has not sold itself. In there current form they will loose terribly.

I can bet you MMD can retain Luapula, Muchinga, Eastern, Northern and to a degree northwestern if elections where held today. But again if PF adopted Given Lubinda and GBM to lead them in 2016 I see it as a walk in the pack for them.

If Hakainde doesn’t change his game plan his going nowhere. Said the same on) and just did on Sata.

    • If PF adopted Lubinda PF will have to say goodbye to Muchinga, Northern and Luapula provinces. PF is a tribal party.

    • Floyd – The PF under Michael Sata has lost grip of Lusaka and the Copperbelt Provinces, truth be told. The PF has messed up in Muchinga, Northern and Luapula Provinces, you simply do not mess with MwineLubemba and Mwata Kazembe. That’s taboo

I honestly don’t see the PF winning in Southern and Western Provinces, they defecated at the river source. Knowing my brothers and sisters from the East, they will rally behind RB’s choice.

  4. Floyd we had no way to measure PF when they were in opposition, now they are in power, most people are beginning to lose faith in them, they seem to be failing in a
lot of sectors , they don’t know how to keep a balance and not throw all your eggs in
one basket(infrastructure) and they lack knowledge despite their arrogance and pride
Come 2016 numbers won’t count as we still have a lot of challenges coming our way,
By then cost of living will so high it even consider numbers unless you want to suffer
    more

    • All are called but there shall ever be on republican president at a time. The rest will ever be opposition camp. Sometimes even when you expect too much thats when you tumble. Just work hard, I am not there to help you. If you win good luck. If you loose I can’t imagine where anger will lead you. Remember come 2016 there wl still be one republican president, and that one will either be the one you like or the one you hate. Meanwhile, life goes on.

  5. I have many times differed with hh on this one.hh has always attacked mmd e.g at mandevu rally where he said”mmd will never come back to power” and nevers has been mute.he has been attacking mmd many times its only that zedians easily forget.let alone poaching of maxwel mwale, canisius banda etc lets not just demonise nevers without visiting the past.honestly speaking unpd need mmd followers to win and if they hurt them they will never be in power.

  6. @floyd chitalu.spot on bro.upnd and pf have one thing in common that is to distroy mmd.they may not realize that.

    • With the PF having lost grip and faith among the Citizen’s and the UPND struggling to sell itself outside of where there already are known I have no doubt in my mind that if Elections where held today under the new Constitution, one of these 2 if not both will not make it for the second round of voting.

En oh, we will have the next General Elections under a new Constitution whether the Executive and anyone else likes it or not.

  7. Shameless Mumba . He says he will learn Kaonde on the condition that you organise the party for him. What a selfish and unselfless statement . Watch out Kaondes.

    • @zambian we all encourage learning other languages,he was just saying he will put extra efforts to maintain popularity one measure being learning my language even as stressful as it may be considering never’s age.All in attendence were laughing as it was more of a joke…bo zambian switch on.

    • …they are both Proud n Sarcastic!!! Terrible they are!!! HH is more of a sadist whilst Sata a Lumpen!!!

  8. The truth is that M’membe has failed to destroy MMD with the Mulusa,Dora,Kaingu and Chituwo he bought and now he wants to make MMD fight with number 3 UPND.
Only fools will believe that Nevers Mumba said that

  9. Mumba still living in the past. Zambian people want a government formed by 50+% votes cast, not your 42. Wake up, you are the ones making Ukwa think that we’re happy with the current status quo.

  10. RB once said, politics is about numbers, if you don’t have that right statistics you can’t win an election.I see no reason for over-reaction by the UPND when Dr Nevers Mumba is merely stating facts.Lets face it, if we factor out the southern stretch from the voting equation-Mazabuka to Livingstone, UPND struggles.Rather than respond with rudiness,it must take it as friendly advice.Voting decisions are also based on other factors including genuine conviction for the cause given what we’ve seen in UPND party activities in the last 48hrs.As I have said before,Leaders stay with their followers on the ground regardless. You don’t abandon them for the roof when times are hard and come down in good times.

  11. All this taka taka politics by the oposition are as a result of the Heat emitted by o mighty,o powerful sata.farmers wil be seling maize to Fra @ k72,twice the amt taken away frm them(us) in subsidies.ever since sata cme into power i pay a full bouquet dstv, right nw am on my way to to get a k38,200 loan to invest in maize. HH keep on barking me and sata we are flyng high.

  12. Bakolwe balesekana ifipato! There is no need to argue about who is going to win. We all know that that it is possible for one of the three political parties to win the general election in 2016. UPND actually stand a better chance because they do not have a record of failure like Pamafi and MMD!

    • @observer,,,, not appropriate language however the message is clear, though i dont agree with your last paragraph MMD also has huge experience compered to the failure you keep refering to,they have actually learnt alot from their errors, how about that hey…?

  13. Nevers Mumba must be out of his priority list, a clear signal of confusion . A state of not knowing what he is doing. He is sleep talking.
MMD had all the chance to prove their relevance but failed.
Mumba must redeem himself as a clergyman.
    Viva UPND, Zambia forward.

  14. From the desperation being exhibited by PF using Dora, Kaingu, Chituwo, Musokotwane and Kachingwe, it is clear that even PF thinks the real threat is the yawning volcano called MMD and not UPND. HH heard Nevers say he would attack in the morning and evening and he jumped on that strategy but has made a horrible mess of it.

It is better to speak less and only once in a while with a punch rather than sounding like an irritating kabulubulu.

The cleansing going on in MMD is very timely. These crooks must be flushed out to help Nevers come up with a new A Team which can allow him space to make the new MMD the way he wants, not according to failure Kachingwe. Let him keep thanking his grandfather at State House for keeping his children in the foreign service and sending his wife to SA
