United Party for National Development (UPND) president Hakainde Hichilema says the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) is deceiving itself by stage managing defections from opposition political parties.
Mr. Hichilema’s observation follows the defection of 1,200 UPND and MMD members to join the ruling PF on Saturday at a ceremony held in Lusaka’s Mandevu township.
Mr. Hichilema says no person in his right mind of thinking can defect to the ruling PF when they can barely afford a bag of mealie meal due to the high cost of living.
He adds that it does not make sense for anyone to join a political party associated with violence and has stolen people’s freedoms.
The UPND leader says the alleged staged managed PF defections are in response to the defectors his party has been receiving from other political parties.
Mr Hichilema notes that the PF is using the similar tactics to the ones the MMD was using while in power of stage managing defections, but still ended up losing the elections.
And MMD Acting National Secretary Chembe Nyangu has told Qfm News in a separate interview that his party is surprised that members that left the party when it lost power to the PF in the 2011 general elections are the same ones being paraded as having defected to the PF.
Mr. Chembe says as far as the former ruling party’s structures in Mandevu are concerned, there are no records that show that the party has lost any member through defections.

Ten men defected from the MMD to the UPND some three to four weeks ago here in North Western Province. The following week I heard that more than two hundred MMD and PF members had defected to UPND. Guess what that did to public opinion.

What is the ruling government looking to achieve by fabricating such stories? People are not interested in such things. Mr. Nyangu is admitting some members have crossed over . On the other hand HH thinks it’s impossible because he believes everyone hates PF so much so that no one would want to associate with it. It is this unbelief that would make the opposition lose again. My observation is that those that support PF rarely speak out and make noise about it (except for the carders), we saw this in 2011. If there was really tension in the country right now you would sense it on the streets, in the market places etc (we saw this in 1991 and 2011. PF is dead in Lusaka. Two PF MPs were recently declared persona non grata in Munali and Kanyama constituencies. Gerry Chanda and Nkandu Luo were chased away from their constituencies by voters. I couldn’t believe Mr HH’s pomposity, the video showed the man running away from danger with his hands in the pocket.
Since the PF party glorifies fraud-stars, it is very possible that this party could, in desperation, print fake opposition membership cards and stage-manage their so called defections. For instance consider (1) conviction of Masumba; (2) Mutembo Nchito having forded documents to Courts of Law.; and many more fraud-stars who have been honoured to lucrative positions in PF Govt. Anything is possible under the PF regime.
But the PF regime cannot find a formula to fraudulently instal an illegal Chitimukulu in Kasama. This is the issue which will tear down the integrity of Sata for accepting to act on advice of Kabimba and Mmembe just to destroy GBM and the Bemba dynasty.
