Zambia yet to confirm 2014 Cosafa Cup participation

Share

Defending champions Zambia have not yet confirmed their participation in this years Cosafa Cup.

In a statement, Cosafa said only seven countries from the 15-nation regional grouping have so far confirmed their participation in the tournament Botswana will host this September.

“Seven Southern African countries have already confirmed their participation in the 2014 COSAFA Cup to be held in Botswana between September 13-28,”Cosafa stated.

“With the deadline for response set for April 25, Zimbabwe, Namibia, South Africa, Malawi, Seychelles, Lesotho and Swaziland have all confirmed they will participate.”

Cosafa is however hopeful that most of its member countries will beat next Friday’s deadline.

“Many of our general secretaries from the various COSAFA countries were in South Africa at the FIFA seminar that was held recently and so have not been in their own offices to deal with such issues,” Cosafa CEO Sue Destombes said.

Zambia beat Zimbabwe 2-0 in last years final at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola to equal the latter as Cosafa Cup record winners.

  1. Is this how useless we’ve become that we can’t even confirm participation in the only international tournament that suits us? (remember that we’re not good enough to go beyond group stages in AFCON and we also do not qualify for the CHAN Competition). Then why should we even have a national team?

    • With all the catastrophes in the country. Even the Minister of football is facing corruption charges. Then meal meal prices, and who knows if HH will be spared by those Kabimba’s thugs.
Sata has many children to form a team for COSAFA, Kazimu pa 5, red card in 10th minute….

  2. Evil yako na bena RB. Now you have a president who’s so detached to soccer that he doesn’t even know what a throw-in is…. Yaba!!!!
