GOVERNMENT has sent a joint team of security officers to investigate and ascertain facts on the operations of Luangwa airstrip.

Minister of Home Affairs Ngosa Simbyakula says the ministry will send its team of officers to carry out inspections of all airstrips countrywide to intensify homeland security.

Dr Simbyakula said the Ministry of Transport, Works, Supply and Communications is also carrying out audits on all the airstrips.

“We want to get concrete information on operations at all our airstrips and the report might be handed over by the team this week,”he said.

Dr Simbyakula also warned political parties planning to promote violence or breach public peace that they will face stern action from law enforcers.

“Anyone who promotes violence will face the law. We are not going to promote lawlessness or allow people to take the law into their hands regardless of their political affiliations,” he said.

And Dr Simbyakula said his ministry has embarked on plans to build one-stop borders countrywide to ensure maximum security and curb illegal border crossings.

“Most of our borders are very porous and we are doing our best to build up one-stop borders like the one we are currently having at Chirundu. This will also promote security and ease movement of goods and services,” he said.

Earlier, Dr Simbyakula inspected Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration department buildings under construction.

The buildings are being constructed at a total of K85 million.

Dr Simbyakula commended the works which are being carried out by the contractors China Jiangsu and China Jiangxi.

He said the construction of the office buildings is aimed at decongesting the two government departments and ensure efficiency when carrying out their operations.

The new buildings are going to be mordenised with digital security monitors and equipment.

  1. Am a Safari guide that has operated in south Lungwa for some time now.I remember when all Guides were called for a meeting which I thought the South Luangwa conservation Society (SLCS)and possibly ZAWA is regretting having invited us.For a lot of things were reviled,

We were the voice of the voiceless, talking on behalf of the Zambian people, who are the local inhabitant of the Land. There major consent was how long will the wild dogs research last and how came the research team has collaborated with SLCS in using the airstrip?
They promised to call for other meetings to clear the dast, which they did not do,which we are still waiting till now.

  2. Another hogwash. Like in all inept societies this will be another report whose findings will neither be known nor action be triggered for. ‘Sigh’

  3. Hon. Minister, it is commendable to tighten security but watch overzealous officers so that they do not start harrassing operators. We are not in a war situation.

Your warning to opposition political parties particularly UPND is rather untimely because it is your party PF which has been breaking the law in this reagrd for a long time now. Please Minister be professional. UPND spokesperson spoke the way he did because he wanted to draw your attention to the violence by PF which you have closed your eyes to as government. Emulate Hon. Lungu, Simuusa, Chikwanda, who speak like Ministers. You are threatening the victim against raising a finger to defend themselves. Were you a bully at school? Even if you were, surely ZNS and university should have transformed you. You hold a PhD sir.

  4. Government has been left with egg on its face again! This is a security breach where the culprits must be charged with treason. Wither the patriotic Zambian people??

  5. I thought security officers are in every district, do we need a security team to check what is going on ? This is an admission they are not up the job?
