?Kitwe City Council has expressed concern with the continued illegal land invasions by unscrupulous people calling themselves chairmen.

Kitwe Mayor Kelvin Sinyangwe said the local authority is concerned with the land invasion in Mindolo north where unscrupulous people are collecting money from unsuspecting Zambians and that the council will not tolerate lawlessness in the city.

He has advised the people involved to stop allocating land to the unsuspecting residents saying;” the call to end the vice is timely to everyone who is taking the law into their own hands when dealing with land.”

And Mr Sinyangwe called on management at the Kitwe City Council to work closely with the Zambia police so as to deal firmly with all illegal invaders in Mindolo north in order to create sanity in the city.

He says the local authority will not sit idle and watch lawlessness in the city.

Mr Sinyangwe further expressed his desire to bring sanity to the city by stopping illegal land invasions by people claiming to be chairmen.

The Kitwe Mayor said this when he addressed Journalists at his office this morning.

  1. Most of those people are disgruntled ruling party members who are trying to use their being in power as weapon to scare ordinary people, and get themselves money in their pockets.

  2. Welcome Our New Mayor, the task is daunting but we need a complete overhaul when it comes to land issues in kitwe. The issues is not only Mindolo but seeing those who are developing their land is being grabbed from them its sad. We are watching our silence does not mean we are sleeping. This problems is linked to the Ndola lands office because it is indorsing the illegal allocation with letters of offers. If you do nothing about it we shall help you as we are documenting what is happening.
Thank you Sir we wish you all the best.

  3. The Kitwe City Council that I know is concerned with nothing, people have built back yard houses without any plans and without any approval from the Council some of which are filthy, people have extended yards into the roads somehow becoming black spots for motorists, These illegal activities have been let grow for a number of years. When the Council will wake up and say we will raze the structures down, people will tell them they have lived like that for twenty years, what will they do?
