MMD President Nevers Mumba has maintained that his party’s NEC meeting will take place before this month end despite continued agitations from the Dora Siliya faction.
Opposition Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) President Nevers Mumba has maintained that his party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting will take place before this month end despite continued agitations from the Dora Siliya faction.
Ms. Siliya, who is also MMD spokesperson, has been recently quoted to have warned that if the former ruling party waits until 2016 to have Dr. Mumba removed as party President there will be no MMD to talk about the more reason the opposition party should go for a convention.
But Dr. Mumba, who has also maintained his stance of not responding to any comments made by the Dora Siliya faction, says he can only confirm that his party’s NEC meeting will take place as scheduled and that other issues relating to holding of this meeting will soon be availed by the party’s Secretariat.
Dr. Mumba has told Qfm news that he is confident that the said NEC meeting will take place as scheduled because whole that is need is the formation of a quorum of NEC members in line with the party’s constitution.
Asked whether the NEC meeting will still take place if the quorum is not formed in view of the agitations by the Dora Siliya group which has preferred an extraordinary convention to elect a new leadership, Dr. Mumba has maintained that the said NEC meeting will take place and it will be successful.
And Dr. Mumba has disclosed that his party, which is amongst four opposition political parties that has formed the Opposition Alliance, is doing very well as a member of the alliance.
He says his party has so far attended several meetings of the Alliance and is yet to attend another meeting for the next step of the Alliance.
For the love of the Party, Kindly step down and chatt the way forward.

MMD does not need a Convention now,but a Functioning Secretariat.Nyangu and Simbao are non-functional.An active SG can even draw-up an Action Plan for the Party President and the NEC Members,especially the Chairpersons of various Departments-say:Youth Chairperson,Women Chairperson,Treasurer etc.I know some pipo who’re ready to finance well-planned MMD Programmes.Not the current position,where money seems to be put in a bottomless pit.VIVA MUMBA,VIVA GENUINE MMD MEMBERS.
Zambian democracy rests on the strong presence of MMD, that’s why voters up and down the country are happy with the sober mind and steady hands of Nevers Mumba at the helm of the party. If the minority paid to destabilise the party feels otherwise, our advise is that there is adequate political space in the country to form their own as Mpombo, Mulongoti and others have done. We have no time for detractors the next general elections are not far , let those with genuine interest of the party be left alone to support Nevers in preparing MMD back into government in 2016.
I urge all NEC members to attend this meeting. Please do not stay away because you belong to Kaingu/Dora/Chituwo or let alone Major Kachingwe and Mugala. Go guys and voice out your frustrations. Tell Nevers what is going wrong. We want to see your courage! VIVA MMD!

God helps everyone in all spheres of life, but we must all believe in our calling, accept and stict to it. Here, we have a man whose calling we accepted and believed in – that of Zambia being saved SPIRITUALLY. But then he later turned around, abandoned his flock and is now telling us that His calling is in fact to get Zambia Saved POLITICALLY! It just doesn’t work that way. As Zambians we have to stop thinking a good leader is one who screams the loudest. Quiet honestly there’s no real leader in either Dora or Nevers. Nevers was a pastor and Dora was a mere newsreader when MMD started. Their ascendancy to high offices within MMD was never a result of any structured political progression or maturity, but by hook and crook, demise of the party’s visionaries and to a large extent DECEIT.

The logical thing for now is to let the MMD NEC meeting to go on so that members can decided whether to go for convention or not. So if Dora Silya is sincere with her claims, she too should show up so that she can present her case.

I thought NEC is the right place where issues pertaining to what you referred to as bulldozing by the party president should be discussed. Why should they jump to an extraordinary convention before the supreme body agrees? In my humble opinion, I think the Dora camp have some explanations to do as to why the party has all of sudden become a dead one.
Mushtota is right. Nevers needs support from all GENUINE members of MMD, not those who have a PERSONAL problem withhim. They just can’t accept that they lost to Nevers at the convention and have tried everything since then to undermine him, despite all his efforts at reconciliation. They should just join their paymasters in PF.
UNIP and MMD need to learn from the Republicans and Democrats and let democracy flourish in their parties. Mitt Romney didn’t appeal to the Evangelical base in the Republican party but be c ause he won amongst all the other Republican candidates everyone respected his candidature against Obama even those who were strongly against, he lost to Obama but that does not mean the Republican Party is no more to the contrary they are re energizing for the next elections that is Democracy. UNIP and MMD learn from the Republicans.
