President Michael Sata has directed Labour Minister Fackson Shamenda to ensure that all workers in the country are well paid.

The President says employers should not wait for their workers to go on strike for them to improve their conditions of service.

President Sata has also explained that the wage freeze does only applied to Government workers and not the private sector.

President Sata said this when he graced this year’s Labour Day Celebrations in Lusaka on Thursday.

The President directed that there would be no speeches at this year’s commemorations to enable employers to go back and reflect on the welfare of their workers.

President Sata was flanked by First Republican President Kenneth Kaunda on the podium.

And Dr. Kaunda has thanked the President MICHAEL SATA for his good guidance of the nation.

Meanwhile, hundreds of workers from various sectors of the economy today turned up for a match past to observe the International Labour Day.

And Zambian workers have joined the international community in celebrating this year’s Labour day.

Celebrations have been held in various districts across the country.

This year’s labourday celebrations are being held under the theme “Zambia at 50, creating decent work and promoting social -economic justice for national development.”

Zambia Congress of Trade Unions-ZCTU- president Leonard Hikaumba says there is need to have decent jobs as Zambia turns 50 years this year.

Mr. Hikaumba has however, called for labour reforms to be undertaken quickly.

He says there is need to introduce laws that will provide for punitive measures against erring companies.

Mr Hikaumba was speaking in an interview with ZNBC news during commemorations for this year’s Labour day in Lusaka.

He notes many firms have gone scott free after flouting labour laws despite stern warning by government.

This year’s Labour Day was under the theme; “Zambia at 50; Creating Decent Work and Promotin Socio-Economic Justice for National Development.”

  1. This is why we should support the man he listens to the workers does Mr Sata

I hope he continues to lead us with his torch beyond 2016

Thanks you on behalf of LT Mr Sata, only simpletons would not be embraced

    HH would never do this

    Thanks

    • The thing is, he realises it is a thin line between success and failure, of course the draft constitution
is almost complete as Mr Kabimba attested

There is a lot of malls opened in Lusaka, I notices even KFC is there now.
People would could not afford cars are driving now, jobs advertisements are plenty, jobs have been created, the economy is vibrant
Even when the kwacha has strangely sided downwards there are signs that it is picking up.
I don’t necessary follow politics but I am merely stating what is clearly evident in this government.

Once they do dual citizenship their legacy might as well be termed complete.
Thank you Mr Sata on behalf of a lot of us

      Thanks

    • I have noticed only PF cadres are busy giving thumbs down, voting me down when I am clearly stating what they don’t want to hear.
Like Noah and his ark in the bible people laughed at him and mocked him, look what happened in the end.
Wisdom does not and should not be entertained only by people who supports HH here, it is disgraceful. Some of us are supporting neither but are calling a spade a spade and when we clearly see
What beauty the PF have done and thank them, we are questioned and comments disliked, why?
PF cadres are extremely obnoxious, repugnant and should start accepting Zambia is a free country
Besmirching my reputation and ridiculing us, will not stop us from seeking justice and the truth
      In Zambia.
Your indignation and malevolent actions makes us stronger.
      Thanks

    • The problem with Ibange and tobacco is that they cloud your brain long after you quit. Long live King Cobra!

    • By 2015 Zambians will start seeing more money in their pockets infact 90 the promises of days will be realised……. fever of the general elections in motion my friends!

    • But the way you ladies above are thinking is scary,
      Mushota
      Nubian Princes
      Cindy
      142
      where is Ex-Moma
You all used to be so lovely, romantic sexy, but on this Sata’s behavior you sound like I don’t know… I wish we had these LT in the Chiluba days mwee.

    • LT,
Now I fully understand that most of your readers are not that interlligent, either they are uneducated cadres or just plain eikels! My statement wasnt at all in support of PF if anthing I was being sarcastic! NOw all you people that gave my post a red, not that I care,we now know how you understand simple statements…. very sharp brains on LT am beginning to realise!

    • @Nostradamus …I’m appalled at the thinking of some of my sisters am not sure what they are on. A President should not be’ directing’ the minister of labour on salaries because he is not the one the generating money. Our economy should dictate ..are we producing enough? I’m sure the president is bold enough to say this because he knows his government has just borrowed $1 billion and we are in danger if that money is just going to consumption through salaries. How is it going to be paid back?

    • I am trying my hardest to make something out of Sata touching Kaunda’s head.
Even if you are a president, you can’t be so disrespectful. My heart is bleeding to be watching that Sata go about insulting people, but it can’t go that far to belittle KK in front of “workers”.
It was not KK’s birthday for God’s sake to be joking like that… I look forward to insult Sata one day.

  2. You may full the people but not death . Its larking! Just be good before you kiss death you cobra.

    • Why rush to speak about death? No one can confidently predict the death of another unless he/she is a sorcerer. In any case, it is not a shame for man who has lived his life fully to depart anytime. I think our president has, have you?

    • Not Sata please leave him reach 101 years. If it happened tomorrow or next 20 yrs, that would be the embarrassing funeral.
@Chale, I don’t think that man has lived his life fully. If it happened only 2 presidents may attend.
KK yes, the best ever, and has friends everywhere. If he decided to give up, he attract more than Mandela (not to compete) but true.

  3. What a contradiction! Government has imposed the wage freeze and expect the private sector to improve workers’ salaries?

    • Government and the private sectors are two different employers. The government started improving workers salaries to lead by example. The private sector should have done even much better as some of them if not all are even cooking up books.

    • @ Peter
Business of the Government is to create favorable legal environment and NOT to govern the business.

Do you realize one simple issue, no Government can force private business to operate in a environment void of rule of law. Ask your Government to roll-up socks and start behaving in a manner which will give confidence to the private sector instead of failed policies from the past.

Talk is cheap, actions speak for themselves and in so far yapping 100% vs. actions 0%

    • The difference is that Idi Amin imposed himself on the Ugandan presidency through a coup, whereas HEMCS was actually elected through a democratic process – so much for democracy, garbage in, garbage out.

  4. These are ramblings of a man who has clearly lost touch with reality. Just by looking at the pictures above is enough to see that someone has lost his marbles.

  5. This Chimbwi is working after all. The more HH exaggerates PF failures, the more people like me, are compelled to admire Chimbwi’s efforts to develop & modernize our infrastructure after years of neglect.

Most politicians fear to take bold steps just to protect their legacies but this President must be commended for taking bold steps like Chiluba did with ZCCM. How many lives and homes of our colleagues were destroyed as a result of privatization of ZCCM? If Chiluba had sought consensus from HH before privatization of ZCCM, some people could not be millionaires today. The high cost of living occasioned by the removal of subsidies was a bold step. Unfortunately the weakest link in society always suffers whenever BOLD steps are taken for the long term benefits of our country.

  6. mwefikopo faza…. majority of workers are in the private sector. learn to read or research a little bit before u post baseless information….

    • So difficult to comment without demeaning others. You don’t seem to have understood my comment. Please read it over and over again like you did your grade 7 exams. Just to correct you am one of the rare and very accomplished Zambian. If you learn to respect others, you may achieve what I have achieved in life and probably stop acting like some one suffering from inferiority complex!

  7. BELIEVE ME OR NOT I SEE NO HEALTH FITTNESS TO DRIVE US UP TO 20 15.WHAT CAN WE SEF IF THAT JACKET IS REMOVED

  8. Did UPND calls for workers countrywide to boycott Labor Day fall on deaf hears? Is this response a precursor of what awaits HH in 2016?

    • After 40 years of participating, today I enjoyed staying at home. Is that going to influence majority?
Be serious, couple thousand paid participants do not qualify to be political barometer.

    • @mpundu rust
actually HH was receiving over 500 defectors from no other than pf. that was more worth while than go and listen to “no speeches this year”

  9. Their calls failed most lamentably. Mark my work so is their failure in 2016, it will be most miserable..

  10. I THOUGHT SOME LUNATIC HAD CALLED ON ALL ZAMBIANS TO BOYCOTT THIS YEAR’S LABAOUR DAY CEREBRATIONS.

  11. facts. e.g UPND in their Constitution states that a convention should be held every 5years, does that happen. if u can not be trusted with the party constitution, how do you expect to be trusted with National affairs.

    • @Nizi. Yes they do hold the convention every 5 years. Last one was held just before the 2011 general elections. Its not yet 5 years. Wait for the next one next year.

  12. SATA understand the time and season, no politicians in zambia currently can match with him. look at this, reversal of finance bank, Zamtel, the rate of Link Zambia8000, now pave Zambia 2000, Lusaka ring roads, construction and upgrading of universities, creating of over 377,000 jobs, the minimum wage, salary increment for public workers, now draft constitution ready, successful hosting of the UNWTO, successful hosting of African youth sports and balancing cabinet such President been bisa, Vice president-English, finance minister -bemba, defence minister- Ngoni-nyanja, education minister-Ngoni/chewa, Commerce minister-Namwanga/Mambwe, Health minster bemba, jean kapata- northwestern and the others such Simusa.

  13. I am reliably informed that the real person behind this parasite called “mushota” is a well know pf cader. Infact its a man. Therefore if u believe in common sense and wisdom, do not engage this empty tin.

  14. the turn out at the celebrations was excellent. we were rubbing shoulders with the leadership in grand style jealous down. ka (HH) and his low life minions have failed to hijack this important day. ka Shimunenga (HH) even in 2016 the people won’t fall for your retrogressive antiques!

    • 142 you should have been there but you are like the rest of most people on LT, hopeless armchair critics in the Diaspora blinded by perceived internet popularity of ka Shimunega (HH). i’m based in Zambia and i can see for myself true development under HEMCS, development never seen in the last 20 years of mmd, true development rivalled only by Mwanawasa’s initiatives. keep dreaming, 2016 is a funeral for you and upnd

    • @ Kudos

Funeral for me? And who is unlucky executioner? You? Lol. Dream MF. I fought and survived better dictators that this senile bunch.

  15. Looks more like brain freeze for Sata than wage freeze for civil servants.Clueless mpikanomics -the economic theory of expecting one thing from the private sector while his lazy govt does the opposite.

  16. @MPUNDU TRUST
Mune walishiba ukulanda bwino. HH should be crying to see the number of workers who turned up for this year’s celebration…….Ati niba president of Southern Province……kekekekekekeke

  17. @MPUNDU TRUST
Dont ever call bamudala ati Chimbwi. That does not fit your language. He is an elderly man who should be respected by virtue of being that old.

  18. Chumbu is so obsessed with amapala – that’s why he can’t help touching KK’s. As for Mushota, I have known him as a man suffering from ASPD (Attention-Seeking Personality Disorder) for a long time.

  19. How many companies consider minimum wage?No one can complain coz if that he/she complain the next day he will have no job.G n G pays workers even k300 and the Government doesnt know that,Some of this companies Tabakwata uluse en some even attended Labour day

  20. Why wage freeze when you know workers need a decent pay? Why not lead by example in providing good conditions for workers? If you can do that to your workers, do you think the private sector would respect that?

“And Zambian workers have joined the international community in celebrating this year’s Labour day”. Zambia workers joining the international community or the international community joining Zambian workers. Where was this commemoration?

  21. Distortion of the President’s words by intentional or unintentional misreporting should be punishable. “Wage free” “does only applied”? If people cannot understand the statement they should not be allowed to distort it in print

  22. The repugnance of Ukwa Satanic CNP’s misrule and its ongoing harm to harmonious ethnical co-existence and to the Zambian economy would easily be good grounds for most Zambians to wish this evil vile lumpen for dead.

  23. Mushota your President is taking advantage of labor day with a pile of empty promises, in other parts of the world people take such promises serious and if you don’t deliver they can force you out of power,he is luck we are docile, why doesn’t he fix the economy first, then there would be no need for wage increase, a wage increase with such a failing economy is like chasing after the wind, uncle BOB just took a pay cut, and Sata is heading that way too if he doesn’t fix these rising prices

    • I have never understood why a mature sane person would leave his home to walk in the heat of the day from one end of the road to the other just to take a look at some old guys standing at the podium!!!!!??!

  24. Guys, have you observed how Ukwa CNPs lips are going red like a the late “red lipped snake” while his trousers are hanging Mushotastically? Ukwa is bound to follow them soon because I also hear he is now seriously purging and the little he eats, he vomits! Onomwaka kano chino chi limbwe ki mushabati!

  25. I actively participated and commented positively and negatively on the same topic. Tabulated the reactions and follow through comments. Established that majority of Zambians are anti-establishment. For now, with sorry to those who I offended and thanks to all who opened my horizon and understanding.
I will miss all Zambian sites.

  26. No speeches, of course how can a grade 4 motivate an educated labour forces, its an uphill battle. when was the last time you heard Mr. sata speak to the nation to show leadership, its pangas cadre who are leading this nation. His civil servants are over paid and most of all lazy. All contracts are going to foreigners esp. The Chinese ,Do you expect the economy to grow and stabilize. The potential that this country has is so immerse and huge but what is lacking is leadership. The people who have not travelled always praise their satan. wake up Zambians you deserve much more . I rest my case

  27. Sata tried his best by not telling any more lies or is it that he has run of lies too? Zambia at 50 years of independence and three years of PF in power the president should be addressing the nation on the progress made with regards to creating new proper jobs and conditions attached thereof. Alas, for PF it is tell to be mute in the face of under achieving in the area of the economy and job creation.

  28. Sata`s behavior during this year`s labor day is the SCANDAL of the century. The man decides to defy protocol and ends up issuing very uncoordinated statements. Look at what he said. Full stops where he should put commas. CNP, kindly read the speeches prepared by professionals. these speeches are properly organised and well thought- out. If he is unwell, please delegate to others as opposed to embarrassing the whole nation to diplomats and the international media.

  29. we re living in th last days.dont kubeba was a tool it was embraced and shall flourish fo some time.BE STRONG
