President Sata has announced that Zambia will produce the highest quantity of maize ever recorded in the country’s history for the marketing season covering the period from May 1, 2014 to April 30,2015.This is according to his latest facebook status update.

Below is the Latest Facebook Status in full

OUR COUNTRY’S ESTIMATED CROP PRODUCTION IS ENCOURAGING

Today I wish to share with you our country’s estimated crop production for the 2013/2014 agricultural season as well as the country’s national food balance for the marketing season covering the period from 1st May 2014 to 30th April 2015.

I am happy to inform you Dear friends that our country is forecast to produce the highest quantity of maize ever recorded in the country’s history.
According to this year’s forecast, maize production is expected to exceed last year’s production by 32.29%, to reach a record high of 3,350,671 metric tonnes. In addition, the country has maize carry over stock amounting to 597, 192 metric tonnes bringing the estimate for total available maize for the 2014/2015 marketing season to 3,947,863 metric tonnes.

I am also happy to report that the production of rice, millet, groundnuts and tobacco has increased compared to last season. This year’s good maize harvest provides the country with a good opportunity to adequately feed the nation and the potential to export the surplus crop as well as promote value addition of maize and other crops. You will be happy to note that of the estimated maize 2013/2014 production, 93% is attributed to small and medium scale farmers whilst the rest is attributed to large scale farmers. I want to commend our farmers for this tremendous achievement.

Our Government, through the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) will continue to play an important role in marketing of maize this season. I also want to encourage the private sector to continue to fully participate in crop marketing both locally and internationally.

Our Government’s focus for 2014 is to continue investing in the crop diversification programme so that we trigger the desired 6% annual growth in the sub-sector inline with the PF Manifesto. MCS – 07/05/2014

    • There is no need for naysayers to be in denial.

You calling a spade a spade, where here is your chance, aren’t you impressed?
This is clearly unprecedented, in other words this is the first time we are having the harvest of this magnitude,.

Better to give credit where it is due, this is GREAT news for all zambians. I repeat Zambians, because the people more often that come to divide us, and start throwing in HH are people that are not zambians by descent.

Time for reflections, pray for this man and realise how fortuitous we are and how blessed we are to have him at the helm

Congratulations Mr Sata, the PF and most importantly all citizens for electing a winning formula

      Thanks

    • Government good policies, early delivery of inputs to farmers coupled with good rainfall have paid off. We return thanks to the Almighty God.

    • The good thing about the economy is that its felt in households and no amount of lies can hide it…..

If consumption of meal meal does not increase as the population has not increases substantially between 2011 and now or marginally increases, a bumper harvest should lead to over supply of maize and a reduction of meal meal price. Time will tell because every lie has a way of coming back.

    • And the haters are in denial.Learn to give credit when it’s due, you don’t have to wear your opposition skins all the time.

    • Some people are so focused on the constitution that they can’t see all these good things. When road accidents happen they are quick to say PF this PF that. They are quick to say the devil has descended upon Zambia. BUT when good things such as this harvest happen they are too blind to see the hand of God upon Zambia. He [God] that is with us is more than those against us.

    • You know you are in Africa when opposition members keep on denying whatever positive thing the ruling party does

    • Folks

Lets not buy this lies from Sata and his useless ministers that Zambia has a bumper harvest this year and yet we the real farmers have not yet started harvesting our maize. Unlike most poor farmers ,I am luck to produce a good crop because I bought my farming input on time.

Most poor small farmers who rely government hand out will not have a good crop at all because the government delayed distributing the inputs. Most of their maize is stunted and will not yield much.

Yes more land might have been planted with maize, but without fertilizer applied in time, the maize has stunted growth.

All this lies about bumper harvest is meant to set ground for authorising export of maize to enrich the PF cadres under the guise of stabilising the kwacha.

      Believe PF at your peril.

    • If you remember this gimmick about about exporting maize to stabilise the kwacha was first hatched by Muzungu Opuusa. Now after a length discussion with fellow white friends and prominent PF members, Muzungu Opuusa has finally convinced the PF to sing the “Bumper harvest “song so that they can be authorized to export maize.

For those who can remember very well in 2012, when maize meal prices started rising they attributed that to shortage of maize due to over exporting. And subsequently they banned the export of maize after they had made enough and sensed the danger of PF being unpopular due to high mealimeal prices.

So this year they will export despite a bad harvest and used the same excuse as the 2012 one.

Mealimeal price will be higher this year no matter what.

      PF +…

    • The PF decided to revamp NCZ in Kafue – it produced over 70,000 metric tonnes of D-compound fertilizer that was ferried across the country way before the rain season. It then imported Urea from Saudi Arabia which also was distributed timely in 98% of the Zambian communities. Bane ba PF bakali.

I know most of you have issues with Mr. Sata because of his personality, but we all can’t be the same – judge the man for what he is doing for Zambia. New roads, new universities, new bumper harvest – apart from KK, only PF have brought in new things in Zambia. MMD privatized and the rich have created shopping malls to enrich themselves.

PF is building the fundamentals of the country – roads, railways, airports – the economic is bound to GROW!!

    • More of this fake president Satas fake LIES!

Bufi and more Bufi is all him and his PF can come up with.

  1. Wow ! Signs of a hardworking government. This is wonderful…i hope the government will buy a lot of those stocks and then come up with a systematic approach of releasing the stocks on the market in a way that will reduce chances of millers increasing the mealie meal prices unnecessarily.Won`t mind if they subsidy it.

    • @Saulosi

      Correct!

Your analysis is the best I have seen on here for years.

Wouldn’t be surprised if they are subsiding it already because forces outside Zambia which have unfortunately caused a temporal derailment in adverse Pound and dollars are just a pit stop.

Why I do know and share with you this is the signs of a hardworking government. I am sure you agree with me, that if it is not broken don’t fix it, I hope the PF stay in power beyond their allotted 5 years.

      Thanks

    • This is good news to all of us who are not bitter, FRA must come up with good measurement and management policies when it comes to off loading the maize to millers as this will affect the price. By this time next year will be fishing with MCS in river Thames. Celebrating our rabidly growing economy.

    • Was it the people in parliament together with sata who did the cultivation
      Or its the people….?

    • You mean *they

You have posted the same incoherent posting twice, surely not a mistake but a more reflection of your ineptitude ness in understanding English.

Not too late to learn honey.

      Greetings from Scotland.

      Thanks

  2. Can someone educate me please!!!!!! how do you announce a bumper harvest when FRA has not even started buying maize from the farmers with a flow price not announced yet. show us where the stock is so that we can see as well.

    • Indeed, I would be happy to be educated too!! I have two relatively big farms and planted about 4 hectares maize in each. I have not yet harvested and I don’t know what my produce or harvest will be. How does the GRZ know when they have not visited my farm, let alone I do not know myself ?

    • You have no clue how the system works , just shut it both of you.People are on the ground as you are up there on ypur laptop.

    • ITS CALLED FORECAST. AND ITS DONE EVERY YEAR. I KNOW IT SOUND STRANGE TO YOU BECAUSE YOU EXPECTED SATA TO FAIL…………. MUCHILI MULEDABWA .WHERE I COME FROM WE CALL HIM ‘MAN OF ACTION’ AND WE CALL PEOPLE LIKE KRISS AND JINX POMPWE’ ARMCHAIR CRITICS. HE STOPPED TALKING AND ANSWERING BACK TO PEOPLE LIKE YOU WHEN HE WENT TO STATE HOUSE.. SINCE THEN ITS BEEN ACTION CHABE.

  3. This is the type of news that makes UPND cadres like Ndobo,Wanzelu,Engineer Australia(Chibolya?),Nostradamus and Dudelove angry because they hate it when PF does something positive.

    • What is positive?
      Estimates?
Two days ago, BoZ Governor stated that Kwacha will stabilize and have guess, at 09.30 did breach new negative record (6.51).
By the way, how you know who has posted contribution on the Facebook?

    • I hate it when they do anything AT all. If they could just sit down, keep quiet and wait till 2016 to exit, they might not cause anymore damage to this country. By the way, I found that Chibolya thing in brackets pretty funny. Am sorry Engineer, us being on the same side and all…

  4. Are all you people yapping in Zambia I don’t think you and don’t its TRUE coz 2013 -2014 the fertilizer didn’t come in time I mean very late like for we had to buy with our on money give credit were its due?my foot.

  5. A very good result and I must say a job well done Mr President alongside workers in the ministry of Agriculture, small scale farmers and all Zambians who are in the agricultural sector. For the naysayers please give credit where it is due.

  6. The only reason there will be a bumper harvest is because farmers, seeing the ineptitude of this id!otic government, quickly made their own arrangements to procure fertilizer in time. Simuusa himself said that he would make sure, as new agricuture minister, that a repeat of the mess under Sichinga would never happen again in the coming farming season. So these people are praising themselves for the initiatives by the farmers. If this cannot be labeled as utter stup!dity, then I don’t know what can be, apart from the mental situations of PF cadres and supporters.

  7. Presidents never hold cell phones especially in public. You have people that do that for you to protect the PRESIDENCY. Presidency is an office. No foreign head of state will visit Zambia because our man has degraded the office.

    • @ZP (Zabwino Palibe) and indeed and your name says it all. Whats worse holding a phone in public or taking a selfie? In your world Obama, Cameron and Helle Thorning-Schmidt have degraded their offices? I mean, where will Zambia end up with this kind of illogical, disjointed and childish thinking?

  8. In east province the whole harvest is going to Malawi for cash money. There will be no harvest is our storage

  9. The ways of the Zambian Government are a dark mystery!
So you distribute the inputs late, the rains were not ample and you come up with a bumper harvest? It would be interesting to tell us how you came up with a bumper harvest…..

    • Zambians are slowly realizing that PF is a party of the people by the people for the people. Just yesterday Kafue Town was celebrating over the opening of Nitrogen Chemicals Of zambia plant.

  10. Bravo to BOB, but we know him as Robert Sichinga son of Nankamoza the half cast of Muyombe village pa Chimilila.

  11. I’m sure when making this statement the guy was very high on very strong weed imported from Zimbabwe. We all know how Bob Schinga messed up things in that ministry not fired because his son shags the big boss’s daughter.

  12. I will wait until the farmers finish havesting their crops otherwise this maybe another hoax like that of 90 days .

  13. BA president,
That is just wishful thinking. Is it a Bumper harvest of lies or maize?
yes we had steady rains but the delivery of fertiliser was delayed in some parts of the coutry due to your SCOTCH EARTH POLICY aimed at starving the opposition stronghood ssuch as s.province which is a major producer of the commodities.

  14. The worlds most active president on facebook happens to the laziest on the ground, cant even address workers.

  15. Why celebrate projections? Let’s cross the bridge when we get there. Somehow I am pessimistic. If its true, mealie-meal prices will come down-so I suppose.

  16. What a load of Bullsh!t. In the UNLIKELY event that your agricultural policies yielded your wishful figures, why would you not reduce the production of mealie meal to make it affordable to most of the poverty and hunger stricken population that elected you before exporting it??? You wont see my vote in 2016.

    • @suntwe

Reduce PRODUCTION ? what are you on about, if you do that price will escalate. imwe lekeni
tobombeko, or did you mean reduce mealimeal price , they are dealing in old stock which was expensive at the time of buying , price will reduce on new stock . It’s not rocket science.

  17. Sata, you are a waste of space on earth. The ‘uselest'(i wish there was suck a word) president on earth. Ask him about the whereabouts of his wife, he will tell you she is in state house. Kaseba has gone AWOL again. Unless she came back yesterday.

  18. Projections could be true, however, most of this is from the commercial farmers and my guess is that they will export most of this maize. I would be interested in knowing how much our subsistence farmers will produce as these are the real Zambians who bear the brunt of late input distribution. Will wait for statistics from FRA and make my own judgement, I no longer trust PF after the 90 days saga.

    • Exactly my sentiments. The common man will only acknowledge your effort mr. President, if there is a reciprocal downward trend in the price of mealie meal and other related products. Before you even think about exporting the surplus, make sure the millers have the raw material at a lower price and then the people can enjo low mealie meal prices. It is as simple as ABC.

  19. “I want to commend our farmers for this tremendous achievement” Sata

Mr President, the best way to commend farmers is to pay them in good time and not the dochi kubeba syndrome of yours when it comes to paying farmers their due. Please use the EU bond to pay these farmers.

  20. All i can see is a bumper harvest of lies, missed opportunities, costly by-elections and a huge run up on our foreign debt load.

  21. But this is just a forecast. There are a number of unknowns. We dont know how much rain we shall receive for example. So this forecast for the 2014/2015 season, should in my opinion, not ellicit any debate among right thinking and rational human beings.

  22. Here we are again as Zambians discussing discussing how well a great country has done by producing so many bags of maize and groundnuts. What’s so sad is that even the President of the entire country is involved, on Facebook? I think motherland can aspire for better and bigger. IS THIS WHAT MAKES MINISTERS USELESS AND IRRELEVANT? Ministers of Agriculture and possibly Finance go to sleep, you are out of the job because Man of Action is in the house(sorry on Facebook).

  23. @142 an ***** shows his colours to the world. 142 you have shouting colours. From your stinking room in the UK, Sweden, USA or whereever you are you type that nonsense. For us here in Zambia the harvesting has begun and the millers have already started buying maize. Think before you put that crap out there you obviously have a lot to learn. Don’t just be negative because you hate the government for your own personal reasons, maybe you are a former plunderer or come from a family of plunderers or you are a relative of that useless crook HH, that thief who sold off Roan Antelope Copper Mine to Binani at a low price but he walked away with a hefty commission. You and your HH are nothing but scum that can never contribute to development.

  24. I write to warn all those who are ignorant about CROP FORECASTS and /Or ESTIMATES to stay away from commenting on things they do not know because they are showing their ignorance. Crop estimates are everywhere in the world and you can estimate at what your household is expecting to harvest this year using various techniques available on the market. so those who have no idea about what we who know are celebrating please do not embarrass yourselves with your comments.

  25. In that case price of mealie meal MUST come down.Remember thoery of demand and supply and its impact on price!

  26. Bumper Harvest , so what. Does it matter that there is a lot of maize that we can’t afford to purchase. In any case Paya Farmer (PF) did not grow the maize. Looking for small successes !!

  27. Crop FORECASTING /ESTIMATES are are supposed to be done by relevant bodies which should involve agencies like FRA, CSO, etc., and their technocrats who should be making statements and or documenting the statistical data. The the whole president should not be announcing and politicians two bags of maize and a bag of groundnuts.
