Zambia’s Muthiya, 31, is among 144 golfers competing in the main event that tees off on Thursday morning.

The joint runner-up at the 2005 Zambia Open said he is ready for the
championship.

“My expectations are always the same, obviously I expect to play well and come out top in terms of winning the tournament,” Muthiya said.

He added:”That is what I have been preparing for whole year long and I look forward to that.”

Muthiya hailed the $250,000 prize money and the refurbishing of Nkana Golf Club.

”It is a good thing (prize money) and I am very impressed with the new look Nkana Golf Club. This tournament is good for tourism and marketing.”

Muthiya appealed to fans to rally local golfers taking part in the Zambia Open.

“Come out and support your local golfers.”
