Unionised Times Printpak Zambia employees have gone on strike in protest over three months salary arrears.

The workers are also demanding that Times Printpak management reverses the transfer of employees that was effected after a sit-in protest in March this year.

Zambia Union of Journalists (ZUJ) General Secretary Angela Chishimba who confirmed the development in a press statement said ZUJ has been notified about the strike action.

Miss Chishimba has appealed to government to intervene by recapitalising the institution adding that ZUJ has been actively engaging government through the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Services over the plight of workers at Times Printpak.

She has also advised management at the institution against taking decisions that will agitate the situation further.

Miss Chishimba said workers are of the view that management is concentrating on paying retirees, legal fees and meeting its entitlements at the expense of payment of salaries.

  1. Seek financial assistance from Post Mmembe newspaper to meet your wage bills. You worked in league with Post to achieve your objective of ushering in a pathetic failed government unable to meet your monthly salary expenses. The reasons you advance for failing to pay your salaries are true and in fact an underestimate because the entire civil service will not be paid salaries in the near future. Only those related to Sata and his tree will not feel the hardship. Its a shame you cannot even write about it in your own newspaper.

  2. Retirees are not paid either! In fact most have gone to courts over the non payment. The government seems to shift posts for even after Hon Kapeya took over the reigns ,the stirry from late Hon Sakeni was that ARRANGEMENTS, [not plans] had reached advanced stage to bail out public media houses. What’s happened after change of leadership at ministry? No hand over notes perhaps!
