Opposition UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema has declared that the PF Government has killed the Kwacha.
Addressing hundreds of people that gathered at Mutambe grounds in Mandevu Sunday afternoon for the UPND rally, Mr Hichilema said President Sata is responsible for the ‘death’ of the local currency.
“Our money is worthless. Mr Sata has killed our Kwacha. Join me in observing a two second silence for the dead Kwacha,” Mr Hichilema told the cheering crowd.
Mr Hichilema then burst out in a mock cry and mourned the weak Kwacha as he heaped the blame on the PF’s alleged mismanagement of the economy.
He said the high cost of living is a result of the removal of subsidies on Maize and fuel.
Mr Hichilema charged that the PF has failed to run national affairs as can be seen by the confusion in the party.
“They have failed. They are always fighting each other because they don’t have any development agenda for the people.”
Mr Hichilema said Zambians should not lose hope and asked Zambians to place their hope in the UPND.
“Voting for the UPND is voting for development. Voting for the UPND is an opportunity to change the course of development for this country. We want to place Zambia on the path to development. I have a debt to Zambians, they educated me for free and I should pay back so that all these children of Mandevu should go to University so that they can have a chance to have a good job or start a meaningful business.”
Mr Hichilema charged that President Sata is too tired to run Government adding that he should rest together with his old cabinet colleagues.
“Bakangiwa (they have failed), they have failed run this country. They are all old and tired. The PF cabinet is full of skeletons.”
Mr Hichilema stated that it is unacceptable for Mandevu with over 20, 000 residents does not have a modern hospital.
“This place needs a hospital, the four clinics we have in Mandevu are inadequate to cater for health care needs of the people. As UPND, we will construct a modern hospital in Mandevu once we take over government,” Mr Hichilema promised.
He also criticized the PF government for its appetite for borrowing on the international capital markets.
“The PF is busy creating a mountain of debt. Zambia won’t need to borrow if the PF government collected windfall tax from mines. They are borrowing heavily and using loans to do poor roads and give friends road contracts. Are people going to eat roads?”
Mr Hichilema said under the PF, hospitals and clinics do not have ARVs and BCG drugs for children due to mismanagement of the health sector.
He added, “Under UPND, no one will die of HIV because ARVs will be readily available.”

What is causing the capital flight is simple, the huge contracts PF is giving to Chinese without clauses in contracts to have Zambians on board, refer to countries like Botswana . The problem is that Sata influenced Chiluba to steal the privatisation money. Sata even stole the money meant fo merzaf housing project.

HH was involved in plundering of national resources in league with late Chiluba, Valentine Chitalu (through Zambia Privatisation Agency). He made billions through dubious selling of mines, Inter-continental hotel and many other parastatals by under-pricing them, joining hands with foreigners, kick-backs and sitting on their boards in Zambia, Mauritius and lucrative contracts of supplies (through proxies). Politicians of MMD era are all the same. PF is MMD 2, UPND is MMD 3. Zambia needs a new leader and politicians under 40 years to be at the helm of national affairs. Nobody above 40 shall be voted in next elections.
Once again, I am moved to comment on the statements by Mr Hakainde. I find it very difficult to reconcile the celebrated ‘Economic Manager’ and ‘Businessman’ with his statements. From the days on UNIP through MMD and now PF, one of the biggest problems that the treasury has had to deal with is the cost of subsidies and who benefits from them. PF removed subsidies to lighted the burden on the taxpayer who was subsidising the mines by paying for their fuel (electricity and fossil fuels). In the case of maize; you end up subsidising Zimbabweans and the Congolese as well. Subsidies are not sustainable; I expected better from Mr Hakainde rather than this populist ‘windfall tax will solve everything’ mentality. What happens when copper prices collapse and there is no windfall?

In countries like ours with majority poor, the only way to implement social benefits is by subsidies. All the western world where this idea of subsidy removal came from still subsidise the lively hood of the poor through social benefits such as free housing, free money to buy basics, free education for the poor children etc.

No one was educated for free in Zambia. That is a myth. Our parents were taxed so much that most of them had no pensions by the time they retired and most of them dided prematurely. A great majority of them left no inheritance for their children and those who are still alive are now depending on their chi;ldren to look after them, except KK alone who is still living on taxpayers’ money for more than 50 years!
The kwacha is truly defunct. Export is not matching import. Foreign companies like First Quantum, Vedanta, Barrick, Glencore, CNMC and Metorex are taking all of the forex abroad, not to mention the massive plethora of Asian traders. WITH THIS IN MIND…HOW CAN THE KWACHA SURVIVE??? One does not need an MBA from Harvard to decipher this. Hon Sata and his inept coterie of ministers cannot figure out this simple cash flow principle.
The PF cadres trying to discredit HH and his Veep on account of dressing is surely misplaced. HH and his handlers did a fantastic job this time around of image building by adopting the ”If you go to Rome, do what Romans do” principle. HH and his team was not addressing Business executives in Intercontinental Hotel or Royal Zambezi for him to be elegantly dressed as is being suggested. For God’s sake’ the rally was being held in the heart and core of Mandevu compound, an urban slum where poverty is written everywhere. As a way of identifying himself with the people, he must be seen as one who can roll up his sleeves and take off his neck ties and suits. Hope and Help (HH) is surely coming in 2016.

As for Dr Canisius Banda he left a noble course of looking after the sick due to his selfishness and went into politics to satisfy his belly quickly, shame on him. As for the current govt they have seen that it is not easy to govern and they should have the heart to listen even from the opposition even though the opposition may not be sincere bcos they are always discrediting even where it is not necessary. God save my beloved Zambia from all these gluttons and selfish leaders we have. Otherwise it is politics of the belly and not service. How I wish Elias Chipimo could be more active by engaging the electorate countrywise.

Kudos to the photographer for laying liars bare. The phographer has shown clearly that UPND has no following in Mandevu. The author of the story has also stated the fact that UPND rally was attended by hundreds not thousands of people. Critically examining the pictures one would not belabour to conclude that the ettendants numbered 300 at the most, yet Mandevu is a teeming area of over 20 000 people.
Canious Banda , born and bred in Mandevu still thinks he can capture Mandevu. Zinopindulana pegeot na benzi. Dream on and on. I will vote for HH in 2116 if only latest scientific findings review that man can live for over 200 years. If this is not the case there is no chance for him. He will never rule.
Truly Underfive, can you compare this skeleton of a rally to the crowds Sata attracts. If you argue to into the archives or even google and check Sata’s rallies and compare to this skeleton and you will know that HH is just a noise maker and not salable. It is unacceptable for an opposition leader who claims to be growing in popularity to attract such size able crowds especially in an area like Lusaka. Believe you me UPND is going nowhere, and I will remind you about this in 2016 you will see

Being patriotic does not mean you stop being realistic. If things are not going well, we need to say it & not shy away just because it sounds bad for our country. Honesty is the best policy. Realizing & Acknowledging that you have a problem is half a problem solved. It can only get worse if we fail to see problems or if we live in pretence.
I wonder why some people think hh will come and change Zambia for better . The man is but an ordinary guy that got lucky by way of ZPA and became greedy. hh owns no single company but has invested heavily in many multinational companies(South African) one of them is Sun International Zambia, where he has been the sole board chairman for 13 years undisputed, the workers at Sun International are paid less than minimum wage the increment they got was in 2011 shortly after HEMCS was sworn in , the GM out of fear sent an email to all employees approving a meagre increment they had rejected from 2010. hh knows the suffering of employees at Sun International but he doesn’t care at all, his wife’s young brother works as a Butler there and suffers like every other employee, what really makes…
what really makes some people think that hh will give a damn about them? The man cares about nothing but profits he will be worse than rupiah banda , he will come and sell state institutions and pocket the money.
@Katongo, thank you for being sobar and true to the point. HH went to mock Zambians in Mandevu and went to his Kabulong mansion to eat and sleep well. He is celebrating kwacha’s depreciation, who is going to suffer? Our celebrated Economic Manager failed to tell the people what, how and when he would resolve these issues. The fall of kwacha affects all Zambians leave politics for 2016 and face the reality that we need to develop the country. If you a Constitution today….by spending billions of kwacha today wont bring food on the table automatically. We need short term interventions to our economy. HH talked about roads, schools and hospitals which the current government is aggressively addressing so he has NO idea….no experience
