Zambia National Soccer Team Coach Patrice Beaumelle has charged that the captainship for the National team has not been changed.

Beaumelle has maintained that Christopher Katongo is still the captain of the Chipolopolo Boys and that no official changes has been made.

“The 2012 BBC Africa footballer of the year, Christopher Katongo is still the captain of the Zambia National Soccer team,” he said.

ZANIS Sports reports that the Chipolopolo trainer said this at a press briefing at Football House in Lusaka today.

After Zambia’s 4-3 defeat to Japan in an international friendly in Tampa Florida last week, rumours were widespread in sections of the media that Katongo has been replaced by Sunzu as Chipolopolo captain.

Beaumelle however explained that Katongo has two assistants namely Nathan Sinkala and Stopila Sunzu the development he said has been on-going.

  1. Really laughable …how can you look to the future by still clinging on to ageing players. Zambia will never go anywhere; under this PE teacher’s assistant.

    • The usual armchair critic; what is the average age of the Spanish (defending world champions) or Brazilian National team? It’s not just the age that matters; simply put, can the he still play or not? Can he still motivate the team or not? The answer to those questions is an emphatic yes. You probably didn’t watch the Japan game.

    • Their average age is certainly not 40 and its not the job of a player to motivate players that’s why there is a Manager, coach and backroom staff.
      Wake up! !

    • Now I start to agree with Jay Jay, so much childish in that Chipolopolo national team. How can he have Sunzu and Nathan as assistant, while there a better leaders in team like:
      – Kennedy Mweene
      – Joseph Musonda
      – Jacob Mulenga
      – Chamanga
      – Kondwani Mutonga
      – Chisamba Lungu

    • ba jay jay nibolanshi mwateyele. captain ala motivator on the pitch. There is no team psychologist while you are on the pitch kicking the ball so players then look to the captain. By the way gerald fimofimo steven the captain of England is the same age as Katongo

    • I knew Chris Katongo from Mufulira, in Butondo and Kankoyo township back between 1996-98. He was a good player mu komboni, playing bear foot sometimes. But aliko wa lubuliko so umwaiche, I remember one time he walked away with his ball, after being substituted. That’s why don’t like him.
He was wearing a black/white secondary school uniform, then he was from Butondo, Kantanshi is brown.
He can be 35yrs now, not more than that, because I was older than him.

    • Iwe Nostradamus, i also used to walk away with my ball when my team mates were not passing to me. You dont hate me because I take my ball home ala! I used to play for section E but ba F bali bafikondo sana and I didn’t want them to play my ball. Anyway I stopped playing football and went to do Engineering in Ontario

  2. CK is the man even above KALUSHA’s contribution to zambian football, the man is patriotic and a real soldier please CK dont listen to critics just do what you know best until yourself feel you cannot kick the ball anymore and become a coach or director of soccer academy, CK is disciplined lets not demolralize the man, and these assistants are useless better Mweene and Mbesuma

  3. I am wondering how Nsunzu received a promotion after performing far below a Captain……..He never showed any leadership in that Zambia/Japan game. Nsunzu was 80% to blame for that particulr loss……..Instead of encouraging Toaster, he was always the first one to blame the goalkeeper for his mistakes.

    1. What could have Nsabata done for the first goal(Penalty),
    2. The second goal came about because Nsunzu missed the ball within the D zone and sent his keeper in the wrong direction……What could have Nsabata done about this?
    3. The Third goal came from the right flank and came in through Nsunzu and Mtonga as a square ball while Kagawa just had to slide the ball into the net.
    4. The fourth goal can be termed silly goal….Japan starts the ball from the
