The Zambian government has allocated a two hectre plot of land to the Chinese government for the construction of a memorial park in remembrance of the Chinese workers who died during the construction of the TAZARA railway line.

Vice President Guy Scott disclosed the development during a dinner hosted in honour of his visiting counterpart Li Yuanchao at Government House in Lusaka yesterday.

Dr. Scott who has since handed over the title deeds of the land to Dr. Li said the land is located along the Great East Road.

He said the construction of the memorial park for the 60 Chinese workers will enable their families visit their last resting place.

And Dr. Scott said the assistance Zambia has received from China has helped the country to post growth in many sectors of the nation’s economy that include health, education and the agriculture.

He also thanked the Chinese government for sending special engineers to help Zambia ahead of the preparations to celebrate its golden jubilee.

He said Zambia’s relationship with China can therefore not be matched by history or global trends.

The Vice President said the two counties will continue to interact at a higher level to deliberate on global issues that are of national interest to both countries.

And Dr. Yuanchao has hailed the Zambian government for allocating the two hectres of land were the 60 Chinese workers will be reburied.

He said Zambia is one of China’s best friends in Africa, adding that the two countries’ friendship has blossomed and yielded fruitful results.

Dr. Yuanchao hoped the China-Zambia friendship will bring development and benefit the people of the two countries.

  1. THIS WILL BE A GREAT TOURIST ATTRACTION IN ZAMBIA. GIVE THEM ANOTHER LAND IN LIVINGSTONE TO CONSTRUCT ANOTHER PARK FOR THE UNWTO CONFERENCE WITH STATUES OF THE NATIONAL LEADERS, THE UNWTO PRESIDENT, MINISTERS OF TOURISM OF ORGANISING COUNTRIES. I CAN’T UNDERSTAND WHY ZAMBIA’S GOVTs CAN’T THINK OF SUCH THINGS INSTEAD LONG SONGS OF TOURISM. THE AMERICAN SENATE LADY WHO VISITED ZAMBIA BEFORE UNWTO CONFERENCE ADVISED THE GOVT TO UNVEIL A STATUE OF A SIMILAR KIND BUT IT FAIL ON DEAF EARS. THESE ARE THE MONUMENTS THAT ATTRACT TOURISTS IN MOST COUNTRIES.

    • so zambia has alot of free land to give foreigners to construct parks,,,, yet native zambias suffer evictions everyday,,,,, but ba katongo,,, God is watching

    • Where is my comment about that some PF ministers are signing up for Chinese Memorial park?
@Ndobo, there is prentty of land everywhere, including Kitwe. Abantu balaya ku mabala 10 km from civilization, and that land can be used for residence.

  2. BUT TWO HECTRES OF LAND FOR A MEANINGFUL PARK IS TOO SMALL. UK, AS SMALL AS IT IS HAS WELL DESIGNED BEAUTIFUL PARKS. ZAMBIA CAN HAVE WELL DESIGNED AND BEAUTIFUL PARKS FOR EACH COUNTRY ZAMBIA HELPED LIBERATE WITH STATUES OF RESPECTIVE LEADERS FOR SUCH COUNTRIES. THAT’S HOW YOU ATTRACT ALL SOUTHERN AFRICAN COUNTRIES TOURISTS TO VISIT ZAMBIA. THERE ARE MANY INNOVATIVE IDEAS ZAMBIA CAN COME UP WITH INSTEAD OF ALWAYS OPERATING AND LIVING WITHIN THE BOX.

    • And I can’t as a Zambian get even half an acre piece of Land on the Great East Road, yet you keep giving such chunks of Land to the Chinese. WHAT A SHAME.

  3. “And Dr. Yuanchao has hailed the Zambian government for allocating the two hectres of land were the 60 Chinese workers will be reburied.”

THIS IS A GREAT HONOUR TO CHOOSE ZAMBIA FOR THIS PROJECT AND THANKS TO CHINA. THIS WILL ATTRACT A LOT OF TOURISTS FROM CHINA AND OTHER COUNTRIES.

  4. Your Minister of Lands claimed there is no Land anymore in Lusaka for Zambians?Where have you gotten that land for such a useless undertaking!

  5. let them put the memorial in form of a complex of beautiful houses with 60 streets for poor Zambians and name the 60 streets after the deceased chinese folks. that will be an excellent remembrance.

  6. Why not just take the Chinese remains to China? South Africa has been doing the same for its fallen heroes in Zambia. Why are we turning Zambia into a chinese cemetery?

  7. wow that is man who said a lot of negative things about chinise today they are his heloes kwena katongo…days are numbered
