A suspected Zambian poacher has been shot dead by wildlife officers in Botswana’s Chobe National Park.

Bornface Ndauze aged 41 of John Laing Compound in Lusaka is believed to have entered Botswana on a poaching spree with13 other people and was shot dead after an exchange of fire with the wildlife officers in that country.

According to a press release by Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA) Public Relations Officer Readith Muliyunda, the body of the deceased has since been repatriated back to Zambia, while the other suspects are on the run.

Mrs Muliyunda said officers from Chobe National Park recovered 10 X .375 live ammunition, 34 Ivory tusks, four axes, four Elephant tails, 12 bags of assorted game meat and a digital weighing scale after the operation which occurred on June 3 this year.

She revealed that in another incident, the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) last Friday intercepted a 33 year old businessman for being in possession of four pieces of Ivory weighing 19 kilogrammes at Kazungula border post.

Mrs Muliyunda identified the suspect as Oliver Muchimba of house number A41 in Livingstone.

  1. Poachers be warned! Botswana uses the army to fight poachers, particularly in the Chobe National Park. You only go there poaching at your own peril!

  2. This can only mean one or all of the following:

    1. Almost all the wildlife in Zambia is decimated so that the poachers are going to neighbouring countries.

    2. Zambians have become so desperate to risk their lives in these countries like how the Congolese used to come to Zambia.

    3. It is easier to smuggle the ivory and tusks from Zambia than those countries

  3. He might not even be Zambian! He may be from some neighbouring country but residing in Zambia. Sometimes Zambian authorities must ask foreign governments to prove that the said criminals in such circumstance are Zambian and when such proof is not forth coming they can be rejected and left to be buried wherever they could have met their fate. That is NOT to say Zambians do not commit crimes in foreign countries but we must always be shown proof of Zambian citizenship otherwise some foreigners residing in Zambia may be contributing to tarnishing our name!!

  4. These vile, cruel beasts should have their “horns”hacked off, left hanging from a tree to either bleed to death or let the lions tear them piece by piece.AbsolutelyNO sympathy for them!!!
