Vice President Guy Scott says there is a perfect good reason why he does not have the information on when President Michael Sata will return from his private working holiday in Israel.

Responding to a question by UPND Siavonga Member of Parliament Kennedy Hamudulu during the vice president’s question time who wanted to know when the President will return, Dr Scott maintained that President Sata is on holiday.

Dr Scott said having a fixed date on which the President must return home may not feasible for various reasons.

President Sata left the country for Israel on Friday 20th June on what the government termed a working holiday.

Choma Central UPND MP Cornelius Mweetwa asked whether the vice-president was in order to issue offensive remarks that had the potential to cause tribal divisions in the country.

“Mr. Speaker sir, the irresponsible and insidious remarks by the vice-president during the BBC interview have gravely offended the people of Southern province, especially coming from someone who was a minority himself in Zambia.

The remarks by the vice-president are that of a racist with colonial mentality and have the potential to divide the people of Zambia,” Mweetwa told parliament, but deputy speaker Mkondo Lungu could not make a ruling.

And Scott maintained in the house that president Sata was in Israel for a ‘working holiday’ that may involve ‘some healthy tourism component’.

“Let me put it this way, if I visit my relatives in UK, there maybe nothing wrong in visiting a clinic,” Scott told the house.

Meanwhile Vice President Guy Scott has dismissed as an attempt to put pressure on government the announcement by First Quantum Minerals that it has postponed investment worth US$1 billion in capital projects in Zambia due to uncertainty on the fiscal regime.

Responding to a question by Lunte Member of Parliament Felix Mutati who wanted to find out what steps are being taken by government in order to forestall the investment withdrawal, Dr Scott said government is not put under pressure like that.

He said government will meet with First Quantum Minerals next week to resolve the issue amicably.

First Quantum Minerals Company Director of operations Matt Pascal said while the mining company has recorded remarkable growth rates at Kalumbila and Kasanshi mine projects, there has been a lot of challenges faced by the company, citing uncertainty on the fiscal regime and bureaucracy.

  1. Because he is in a coma? If he went for meetings and wooing of investors surely he should have a return date or he may well end up being an over-stayer and therefore an illegal immigrant.

    • And we devoting time talking about this date and sickness at the expense of other important national issues ? Lets be serious Zambians.

    • That’s right Guy. Don’t play to these nay sayers who want Sata dead so they can have plunderers in Government again!

    • Nubian Senseless’s blindness to the rabid plunder currently taking place under the pa fyamba regime is simply mind blowing! RTSA being controlled directly from State house and somebody can call others corrupt?f Rampant tribalism and nepotism is not corruption simply because it is practised by Bembas ka?

    • It is incredible to see how much many of us want Guy Scott to confirm our own wishes and prejudices! It is evident that as long as the government representatives do not satisfy our prejudgements or communicate something that reflects our own assumptions, we will regard them as liars or mischievous. Have we for once considered THE POSSIBILITY that Guy and his ilk may be telling the actual truth and that we (the dissenting voices), and those feeding us all kind of data on this subject, may be wrong?

    • We just want these fcukers called PF to leave because they are fcuking destroying our country so yes that old fcuk Sata should die as a first step because everyone knows that no one in this country can vote for any other fcuker in PF. Is that clear enough now?? Sata’s death will be a redemption for the majority of the 13 million Zambians who cannot handle the incompetence of this government. So the observations by most that a lot of us want him dead are correct and most of us are not hiding or disputing it! The presidency and the country as a whole is a total fcuking joke since these PF d!ckheads took over so fcuk the president and fcuk the PF government as a whole. Otherwise, have a great weekend everyone!

    • Muzungu Opuusa has just confirmed what my source told about Sata’s condition that he is in a comma. There are plans to put him on a machine for as long as it takes so that K camp can buy time to position them selves and take over power eventually.

November lets prepare for a bye election and remove these *****s from power.

    • My goodness, oouuch, VP, what is this? Surely, Zambians deserve better. Have we become so cheap in your eyes that you no longer think we deserve to know or dare ask not only about our President but the happenings in govt. This is not a monarchy or has the elected govt turned itself into one? Would the VP have answered the MP that way when your candidates knelt before Zambians to beg for a vote. Do not hide behind your hatred of one tribe. It is attitudes like these that make Zambians convinced that PF is resurrecting tribal differences of the UNIP/ANC era. What does Dr. Kaunda think about this? Or could this be a strategy to revive one-party participatory “democracy”? Well, that has more disadvantages than good in this era. Dr Scott, why don’t u want Zambians 2 enjoy democracy as in…

  2. Imagine you are an employee- you just vanish on a so called working holiday telling your employers that ‘I am not sure when I will be back’- that is being an irresponsible employee and should be either be put on unpaid leave or resign or be fired- Anyway, I should think Guy Scott is being honest- with long term illnesses, you cant be sure because they are very unpredictable especially if it is a cocktail of HIV/AIDS and cancer- chemotherapy treatment while trying to reduce blood poisoning-

  3. What is a private working holiday when it involves wooing investors to come to our country?

A return date is not feasible? This is utter disorganisation, very sad for a government to behave this way! This does not instil any confidence in the Zambian people. Our leaders should be working to a programme, among other things ensuring accountability.

There have been so many contradicting statements. Just one spokesperson would help ensure consistency albeit consistent lies!

  4. Yeah we all know it is a matter of national security why the date is not for public consumption.Next story please. We have to move on from this sickness story. How much is the kwacha trading at today ? Are the nurses still threatening to go on strike ? Heard that a miner has died in Chingola after a mine accident how true is that ? Are workers at times of Zambia still unpaid ? Whats the latest in the Barotse issue ?

    • How is the Barotse issue going to help us improve the lives of our citizens? That’s not newsworthy. We as Zambians spend too much time on unnecessary issues and end up with no progress and still begging for donors to feed us at the end of the day.

    • @saulosi

If lying about the where the president is and not certain when he is coming back amounts to national security issues then PF have actually created a recipe for a Coup de’tat .

One brave soldier is observing the situation and if the date his return remains uncertain in three weeks from now, then he will accelerate the plans to take over to the final phase. I wish it could happen now so that all the PF minions get arrested and thrown into jail.

Twanaka nobufi mwe. We need any one else to lead the nation but not a Bemba again.

We need Change now, We need Change now, We need Change now We need Change now ,We need Change now, We need Change now, We need Change now, We need Change now, We need Change now.

    • @wanzelu your altrances are very tribal and should be avoided by all well meaning Zambians. Its how well you sell your policies and interact that takes you to state house nt your tribe wena mbuli,Over that soldier planning some hidden activity we are watching and stand ready to enhance rule of law.We dont support kabimba but proceedure is cardinal.

  5. You know you are fooolish and useless if you go abroad on holiday and you don’t know when you are coming back. How can a president not know when he is returning to his country?

What happened with going to Mfuwe for working holiday? Mwanawase and RB spent their working holidays in Zambia

    • That would be a very tangible way of wooing investors to the tourism industry. What he could do is take working holidays in different parts of the country, a holiday in Mfuwe, then followed by Kasaba bay, then Liuwa plain etc, osati ivi vochita abracadabra magic disappearance act to woo ma investors bamene sibazibika nakuoneka.

  6. “Let me put it this way, if I visit my relatives in UK, there maybe nothing wrong in visiting a clinic,” Scott told the house

The above statement by VP a clear analogy that our president is in that country for medical reasons.

  7. Sata and his minions have destroyed Mother Zambia, every thing they do is a comedy of errors, if Sata cared about the welfare of the country he would have appointed a VP who is legally able to take over without any problems, he could have done this a while back when he was “appointing and swearing in his relatives” he has exhibited selfishness throughout his tenure and therefore those who still have faith in him and his government…I don’t know what your fixation is all about

  8. President Sata has been diagnosed with Multiple organ Dydisfunctional Syndrome (MODS). He may not come back home soon.

  9. very dull white man
    working holiday, wooing investors
    visiting a clinic
which is which? Do you tell me a working holiday has no limit, no plan in place?
This gvt regards Zambians to be $illy. From day 1 its lies through and through

  10. The idi0t scott has just confirmed that Sata is sick period. When you are sick and admitted in hospital, nobody can know when you will return. It is therefore impossible for scott to tell us when his boss will come back and in what condition. Let us just wait but after 30days we shall move a motion to kick the president out of office for absence as per constitution.

  11. Its surprising to see how dirty & stinky some fellows can be. Surely this isn’t the time to show your dreadful thoughts about our president. Most of you with such awful & unfounded info about Sata are failures in life. Do something pleasant to the eyes of the Lord Jesus & if anything this is the time to come together as a nation & pray for him to come back in good healthy. Lets love one another. Jesus loved us & died for our sins, so let Sata be judged for his sins by the owner of your sour & his. Its not for you to judge him, if anything who r u & me to do that…? Pastors around our beloved nation, I challenge you to walk in the ways of our Load Jesus.

  12. The leader of Zambia’s main opposition Patriotic Front (PF) party is calling for a thorough investigation into the health of President Levy Mwanawasa to determine whether is he is fully fit to govern. Soon after the government reported that President Mwanawasa was in stable, but critical condition, Michael Sata urged the Mwanawasa cabinet to appoint a medical team immediately to travel to France to examine the Zambian leader. The government, however, dismissed Sata’s pronouncement describing it as unfortunate and fraught with political malice.

President Mwanawasa is in intensive care in Paris where he was taken after suffering a stroke two weeks ago during an African Union meeting in Egypt. From the capital Lusaka, Zambia’s minister for information Mike Mulongoti tells reporter…

  13. always when i stand by chirundu and see heavy equipment coming into the country my heart bleeds and i wish the machines could have been tractors and nt these mining tools. What is very alrming about this whole thing is that Zambia does nt benefit in any meaningful way when these foreign companies take this wasting asset for sale.Let them hold investments because we intend to bring them back to the table for equal sharing of this wasting asset at 50- 50 like it is anywhere in the world. If they are nt happy let them leave for new ones that wil appreciate these sharing rules will come.
