Angry mob in Luwingu burns chiefs vehicle after accident

A vehicle belonging to chief Mwewa of Luapula province has been burnt to ashes by an instant mob justice in Kasama in Northern Province after it was involved in a road traffic accident (RTA) which resulted in the death a 46 year old man.

Northern Province Police Commissioner, Charity Katanga, confirmed to Zambia News and Information Services in Luwingu that Obeyed Sinyangwe was yesterday hit by the Toyota twin cab registration number ABJ 3775 belonging to chief Mwewa of Luapula Province.

Mrs Katanga explained that the incident happened around 08:40 on Monday in Bwebe village before tehe angry mob descended to the vehicle and burnt it ashes.

She said the vehicle was being driven by Jacob Mulenga, 25, of Chiba village in the same chiefdom.

Mrs Katanga said chief Mwewa left the keys on the table as he was bathing before Jacob saw and stole them and drove the vehicle without authority resulting in the road accident.

Police have since launched a man hunt for Jacob who is still at large, adding that if arrested he will be charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

    2. Chief Mwewa of Luapula, the report sounds as if Bwebe and chiba villages are in Mwewa chiefdom.

      And this sentence was worse:
      “Mrs Katanga said chief Mwewa left the keys on the table as he was bathing before Jacob saw and stole them and drove the vehicle without authority resulting in the road accident”.

  2. Some children sometimes misbehaves and this is a lesson to many children especially when you do not have a license to drive this is the outcome mostly.

  3. actually i did see de accident scene myself personally yestarday.it hapened in Kasama and not Luwingu,in bwebe township near Chiba.yes i can comfirm that the vehicle belongs to Chief Mwewa of Luapula province,Toyota Hilux twin cab registeretion number i didnt see it properly du to its poor state.it is believed that the guy who drove it without authority was comin from a ka place called GODAMARA where they drink and smoke all kinds of forbiden drugs and alchol when he hit into a kantemba where the old 46 years old man who died on the spot resulting in a mob burnig the said vehicle.its beyond repair and the driver is on the run.
