THE Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has commenced investigations into reports of alleged corrupt practices involving Patriotic Front Mongu Central member of Parliament (MP) Nathaniel Mubukwanu.

The 2012 Auditor-General’s report revealed that Mr Mubukwanu, who is also North-Western Province Minister, irregularly influenced the awarding of K452,000 constituency development fund (CDF) contracts to unqualified contractors.

ACC public relations manager Timothy Moono said in Lusaka yesterday that the investigations follow a thorough analysis of the allegations of corruption levelled against Mr Mubukwanu in the 2012 Auditor-General’s report.

“We have commenced investigations into the reports of corruption against Mr Mubukwanu,” Mr Moono said.

He said he would give a comprehensive report within this week.

Recently, Transparency International Zambia (TIZ) executive director Goodwell Lungu called for the suspension of Mr Mubukwanu for alleged procurement irregularities involving CDF as cited in the 2012 report.

Mr Lungu called on President Sata to suspend Mr Mubukwanu.

He said TIZ is dismayed to learn that Mr Mubukwanu allegedly irregularly directed Mongu Municipal Council to award contracts in the allocation of two projects.

Ronald Chitotela and Rodgers Mwewa were fired in December last year as deputy ministers of Labour and Agriculture, respectively, as the ACC instituted investigations into their alleged misuse of CDF.

President Sata said he could not work with the duo when they were being investigated for corrupt practices.

Mr Chitotela is Pambashe MP while Mr Mwewa is Mwansabombwe lawmaker.

President Sata also fired permanent secretary for administration at Cabinet Office Ann Mwewa for alleged corruption.

  1. This is typical of the “Animal Farm” saga. Since PF is supposed to be a genetically Bemba’s Party all non-Bembas are supposed to be subjected to ACC’s selective investigations. All Bemba politicians are immune to ACC’s tentancles

    • Dont you think this is *****ic thinking. Mwewa who was fired by Sata is considered bemba by most of you but still he was dropped.

    • @Kwacha, you see tribalism in everything. It’s people like u planting this seed of tribalism in our country. We all belong to one bigger tribe- Zambia.

    • People, read between the lines. When these police, ACC, DEC and all start acting like this, they know something is wrong and they start being authentic. Hmmmm, am just saying!!! prostitution is a favourite game for some. So we forget.

    • Mubukwanu has done exatly what Sata did with merzaf housing project money. If they want him punished they should start with his boss Sata. Zamtrop money will end up with the UK government now that the key witnesses ; Chiluba and Sata are no more.
To start fighting corruption on a serious note, we need to first get rid of all the former UNIP,MMD and PF prominent politicians from the political platform and reset and tighten the same system once and for all.

This pure selective justice. Kabimba and GBM have engaged in corrupt practices but the ACC is dead scared to investigate them. RDA is stinking of corruption under the supervision of the late Sata.

To me these are just last kicks of a dying horse and a facade to show that they are serious with fighting corruption to cheat the…

    • Wanzelu did you take this money with him, you seem to know the details very well. The problem with our society is that we believe as gospel the information in the media. Do so research and you will find that the information in the auditors report is incorrect. The auditors didn’t not interview or check if the projects in question had be completed. The auditors report actually says that the projects have not even commenced yet these project have long been completed with teachers fighting to for the accommodation.

  2. When you see any zambian politician, just say say here comes a potential white collar criminal intent on amassing wealth. A certain guy was given to privatise state companies to benefit the nation but he ended up gettin the biggest chunk for himself. We all know him and we are geared to make him head of state. Wake up Zambians.

  3. Another sheer waste of time & Taxpayers money, that could be used to buy desks for poor Zambian’s in rural schools.
Firstly, when has any politician been convicted & imprisoned for corrupt acts under Sata’s P.F rule?? This Only happened under Mwanawasa’s rule.
The other problem is Zambia WILL NEVER DEVELOP, as we Africans/ Zambians have Corruption in our D.N.A.
Zambian’s Sacrificed / Lost their lives so Zambia could be free, not knowing this Liberation would be a License for African Vultures & Maggots to Corruptly R@PE their Nation & Economies.
There is Corruption in all Societies, the West included, but the difference is African Corruption is SO LUCRATIVE, No One gets punished.
Just ask some ex- Politician who buried Money on his Farm, or does Zamtrop ring a…

  4. Good move ! Arrest him if found wanting. We don`t want bad elements in public office or leadership positions

    • What’s honourable about irregularly awarding contracts? The man has dishonoured himself and his father then!

    • People let the investigations take place before you start passing judgement, a person is innocent before proven guilty. You have to take information in the media with a pinch of salt.
Check the facts of the story and so far this actually start from teachers house not being built and yet these teachers have moved into these places and contracts are awarded by council committees and not MPs. I find it hard that an MP is awarding contracts to contractors, what were the committee members doing while this was happening?

  5. actually the corruption is in most of the Mongu Municipal Council from my view. these are guys who can agree to fund projects without knowing how much it will cost, how long it will take to complete the project, no approved plans and BOQs. its such a shame to work under a system. i think people are just going to the tail of the problem, they should look at the whole system of the CDF otherwise most of the costs being incurred on some of these projects could just be repetitions over years. if anyone wants where to start from, let them ask for 2013 CDF approved plans for Mongu and start asking questions from there. maybe its also a matter of capacity of manpower but also there is a know it all attitude at this council

    • Exactly my point that the councils committees approve projects and not MPs, the investigation needs to go deeper to actually find out where this is stemming from.
