The opposition Forum for Democratic Alternative Party says arguments being forwarded by fellow opposition leaders Peter Sinkamba of the Green Party and People’s Party president Mike Mulongoti on the legalization of marijuana should not be entertained as the duo have not provided answers as to how the abuse would be kept in check.

FDA president Ludwig Sondashi said his party does not support the idea of legalizing the drug as it will add to the already existing challenge of alcohol abuse which he blamed to be partly responsible for the increasing carnage being witnessed on our public roads.

He noted that the country is finding it hard to cope with alcohol abuse hence legalizing marijuana would not be in the best interest of the nation which has had to cope with increased road accidents as well as low productivity due to alcohol intake.

“As Forum for Democratic Alternatives party (FDA), we wish to register our support for the view not to legalize the use of marijuana in the Republic of Zambia.

“Arguments advanced by both the Green party leader Peter Sinkamba and most recently by People’s Party president Mike Mulongoti do not merit the legalization of marijuana as they have not provided for how abuse would be kept in check.

“As things stand the nation has to cope with alcohol abuse which is partly responsible for the increasing carnage being witnessed on our public roads and for lowering productivity in the country,” Mr Sondashi said.

  1. This is one topic which unifies bloggers from rival political camps. The comments are usually funny and I can’t wait to read them. Keep them coming, lol

  2. Nothing wrong with the herb old man.Mulongoti and Sinkamba are right we have to legalize the herb.In countries were marijuana is legal there is no history of abuse.Go to Colorado or Oregon in the united states,go to Christiana in Denmark,go to Amsterdam in Holland it is the same story. Its when you outlaw it when people are more likely to abuse it because curiosity get the better of them.

    • YOU ARE SIMPLY A LAIR MY FRIEND. WHERE DO YOU LIVE? THERE A LOT OF ABUSE OF ANYTHING INTOXICATING ON EARTH NAMELY ALCOHOL, ILLICIT DRUGS, ETC.

  3. Nothing wrong with weed.I’m just from smoking a fat one.Bushe ninshi nshapenena ? I started in grade 7 and 20 years later am still normal.Time we removed prejudices against this holy grail plant. It relieves me and actually my girlfriend loves it when we are both high because we go at it like rabbits.

    • Iwe Ziman uluchipuba. Do not try to spread your addicton. All the pipo who partake in Dobo smoking are mad. Do not be in denial. You are already a Chianama client by reasoning like that. Shah!!!!

  4. With poverty comes a lot of challenges.
Our current political scene has only the ruling party firmly in a position to finance its partys functions and operations.

Opposition partys struggle to raise such funds but need them just as much.

    What does this do?
It opens pandoras box. Desperate leaders lobby for funding from outside so called donors who also agree to fund these parties but at a cost.

    |What is this cost?
That this or these parties will be funded as long as they champion certain ideals or iedeologies e.g. gasy rights, legalisation of marijuana to mention just a few.

This is the case of a lot of parties in Zambia.
Its sad that a father can stand up and clearly support something wrong.
You can forget about me voting for you mulongoti.

  5. This Sondashi chap has sensed a presidential by-election and he now wants to use this issue as a smoke screen. This guy is on record saying he used to smoke Dobo with Ba FTJ Chiluba and he today turns around and say it should not be legalised? I smell a big rat.

Just legalise the growith and export of Dobo, it can earn the country more forex than all the cash crops combined. There are economies where consumption of this stuff is legal like Holland and some other States in the US. Please legalise it for growth and export , we need forex and job creation

  6. Bomboclat ! Ludwing man ,you don`t say no bad tings on our plant you hear ? Dis was given to us by Jah. All i wanna do now is smoke dis and work on my art you hear ? You are just a part of Babylon’s plan.Bad man, just concentrate on your damn formula man. JAH Guidance fellow Rastafarians and Friends on LT !

    • Ubu ebushilu tulelandapo.look at what marijuana can do.Can a normal person talk like Jah relief.Ibange lyachabe lipenya panono panono until a person begin to think and speak like Jah relief.

  7. Umwana wangala kuchamba ena temwana iyo.Ba Sondashi muleikalafye naimwe. There is nothing wrong with the herb.Umuntu kubaila.I’m yet to see a mad person in a mental hospital whose illness is attributed to weed.

    • Mwewa, go to Kasama, especially kasama bus station you will find a lot of mad people they have even turned toilets in sleeping rooms and the only smoke that comes from there is marijuana.

  8. It is the best way the society that is dynamic can go. Already some countries such as Paraguay, Uruguay, New Zealand, Nethelands and may more including some states in the USA such as Washington state where the white house is located has legalised Marijuana. There is no evidence that has emerged to suggest that crime, accidents, madness and prostitution had increased in these places. instead what has been observed is that deaths related to drug use and abuse have reduced. eg Gun and drugs related deaths have reduced significantly.
Why did the law makers legalise marijuana in these countries? 1) source of recreation that is natural and balanced by God almighty. 2) appreaciate nature, everything that God created is God hence the reason for creating it. 3) source of income, tourism.etc…

    • @ mwamonekela…
..I beg to differ with your assumptions/analysis…The parameters where the ‘weed’ has been legalised are completely different to ours(Zambian). Those countries are supported by good social back-up…you have not mentioned any single African country ..why..?. There are about 50 or 52 states in USA, how may of those have legalised it and how many have not and why..?
Your last statement does not make sense to me in totality…you said and I quote…’..everything that God created is God hence the reason for…’..have you ever heard of Asterales….poisonous plants, poisonous mushrooms….
Do you know that most drug dealers don’t even partake/take drugs..? I’m sure you also don’t smoke weed but only interested in monetary value than health and social impact..

    • The White house is on the other end of the nation, in the District of Colombia, between Maryland and Virginia. Washington state is on the pacific ocean side with Olympia being its capital. There the weed is already making you mad.

  9. Bring Weedmeters to test for excess consumption.

No Driving under the influence of Weed/ No Smoking & Driving.

Then legalise it.. We all smoke. If you know the scent then u’ve smoked before.
    Heard of passive smoking ?

  10. CONT.
    4) status of liberty: human beings should not be circled in bondage of myth, superstitious beliefs and ignorance. 5) Godliness: its not what you put in to your mouth that destroy society but what comes out of the mouth. (6) History: Marijuana has been in use by our ancestors for many generation to date non of them went mad. Madness is a natural disease influenced by our metabolism differences not marijuana. scientific proofs are just emerging that most of the well cerebrated human beings on earth used marijuana at times eg Kings Solomon, Nelson Mandela, Barrack Obama etc…
in short if marijuana is legalized in some sections of Zambia such as Livingstone, tourism will expand within a short period of time. Freedom is very important in life of human beings not unproved…

  11. ..some us have had first hand encounter/experience with the effect of ‘weed’. I had a young brother who was very normal and intelligent. In his first year at UNZA, he was introduced to the ‘weed’. All hell broke loose, Chainama hospital confirmed that it was the after effect of taking ‘weed’….He naturally drop off from UNZA and it did not take long…he passed on a year later. So if you had to lobby/persuade me to support legalising weed, I would whack you hard into your face if you were nearby. May be try me in 40yrs time, I may just consider your proposal because I will be long gone then and my children will have matured to make reasonable choices and guide for their children as well……

    • Sorry for your lose but your brother had other issues. The incompetent doctors at Chainama used weed as an excuse.

  12. Fear of Marijuana Legalization Nationwide is unfounded. Not based on any science or fact whatsoever. So please all you prohibitionists, we beg you to give your scare tactics, “Conspiracy Theories” and “Doomsday Scenarios” over the inevitable Legalization of Marijuana a rest. Nobody is buying them anymore these days. Okay?

Furthermore, if all you prohibitionists get when you look into that nice, big and shiny, crystal ball of yours, while wondering about the future of marijuana legalization, is horror, doom, and despair, well then I suggest you return that thing as quickly as possible and reclaim the money you shelled out for it, since it is obviously defective.

  13. The White House is in Washington D.C., not in Washington State. To be precise, marijuana is legalized in a couple of states in the U.S.A., not some states.

  14. “Ati ok men sleeping with men,” “Ati abamano have spoken, lets not discriminate too!” “Ati don’t discipline your children and school children!” Ati abamano have spoken again, let’s follow!” And to hell you match with them and your country you ruin unaware of it. God have mercy.

  15. Yes they should not legalise MaryJane, instead they should allocate a day when people can be allowed to freely smoke and only in designated and supervised places. Many people need the relief that the stuff give, it is ridiculous that people are sent to prison for possession of a joint. It is a pit that the drug is only associated with Rastafarian and yet there are more people out there who smoke in hiding.

  16. “legalise Marijuana Uuuh uuuh uuh!
The only cure for asthma Uuuh uuuh uuh!
The only cure for Glaucoma Uuuh uuuh uuh!”
