A TEAM of councillors and staff from Lusaka City Council (LCC) led by Kabwata member of Parliament, Mr. Given Lubinda yesterday took time off their Johannesburg study tour to visit Kazimu Sata and Tiberth Musambachime at Milpark Hospital.

The team of councillors and staff from Lusaka City Council (LCC) are in Johannesburg, South Africa to study operations of automated ticketing systems in that country.

The study tour, conducted under the auspices of Vane Technologies of South Africa, is being undertaken with the view of introducing electronic ticketing systems in various operations at Lusaka’s Inter-City Bus Terminus.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Mr. Lubinda said he was glad to see that both Kazimu and Tiberth looked “bright” considering that they were involved in a traumatic accident during which they sustained serious injuries.

“I am glad that they could recognise me and we could even converse. We keep them in our prayers and I call on all Zambians to pray for them.”

Mr. Lubinda also commended the Zambian High Commission to South Africa for keeping the nation informed on the condition of the two.

“I wish to commend the High Commission for doing a good job. We have been following through the media and we have learned that you are indeed looking after them well,” Mr. Lubinda said.

Other members of the delegation were Councellors Chrispin Kabole and Robinson Kalota, and LCC Finance Director, Mr. Victor Mazimba; Engineer, Mr. Musonda Mulenga; I.T. Manager, Ms. Judith Beene, and Inter-City Manager, Mr. Penjani Chirambo.

On the tour, Mr. Lubinda said that the tour acted as a due deligence exercise on the company. He has since appealed to Zambia’s High Commissioner to South Africa, His Excellency Muyeba Chikonde, to assist with further studies of the company’s track record.

Mr. Lubinda said the bus terminus handled a huge number of both vehicles and people and that there was need for an efficient and fool-proof system in order to increase accountability levels. Mr. Lubinda said LCC was losing a lot of money through theft and corruption because of the current systems which he said were easy to compromise.

“The world is becoming cashless in its transactions and we cannot be left behind. If our people are able to buy bus tickets and other things through vending machines, then we will reduce on cases of theft. This is something we can roll-out to other parts of the country if it succeeds in Lusaka. There are so many bus operators at Inter-City and the current system is just too cumbersome,” Mr Lubinda said.

He noted that the terminus deserved a fast and efficient system that would make it easier for bus operations to be time-bound.

He said LCC thought of taking the study tour because the system being proposed by Vane Technologies was new in Zambia and so needed to have an on-the-spot inspection.

Mr. Lubinda said the company disclosed to his team that they handled the ticketing for the 2010 Africa Cup Tournament held in South Africa and were also doing tickets for various airlines including the Gauteng Province train system, Gautrain.

  1. All roads by all Sata’s bootlickers who are in South Africa leads to Milpark Hospital , and they have to take cameramen as evidence. Awe cha sure. All roads need to lead to State House where there is a big patient who doesn’t want to talk to the nation, maybe they are doing it through the man’s son

    • officially am complaining to Lusaka times!!! Why are you not covering the good that Wynter Kabimba is doing ,,,,,,,, you mean he kabimba doesnt visit the sick in hospitals???,,,, afew days ago kaimba rescued Felix Ngoma from janjaweed group yet you chose not to acknowledge his efforts,,,,,
why do you people hate Wynter kabimba kansi???

    • @Ndobo, please support your own Lozi, be PATROTIC!! Let Lubinda enjoy his popularity, even the patients recognize him. Lubinda is the man. Just try him to be acting president next time Ba Sata is admisted, try him, you see what he is made of.
And let Kaimba be praised by his comrades in Sudan, for providing income for their operations.

    • Very treacherous !!!
The moment he leaves the hospital ,he will be vomiting what he has seen through his Gin and Tonic .Thats snowden Lubinda for you.

    • That’s my President. Way to go sir. Never revenge evil with evil.

You’ve from the initial step shown how leadership ought to be, got a lot of respect for you and will make sure you become the next President of this motherland.

    • @1.2 ndobo – Kabimba did not rescue Ngoma. Kabimba and the Janjaweed are bosom buddies. You can as well say Kabimda abducted Ngoma and after realizing the mistake, they decided to release him.

    • The only downside is that the constant power failures in Zambia will have a negative effect on the vending machines, hence reducing their efficiency and durability.

    • vending machines can also alternatively run on PV system. It can be arranged in a grid tie with battery storage as a secondary feature. we have an abandance of sunlight and the solar powered system would kick in milliseconds after main power supply is off.

    • Zagaze: That’s what is known is “Positive Thinking”. People just want to find negatives in everything. In some country there is a huge shift from hydro power to solar power. There are solar geysers now and you will see what this country will say when it is proposed to introduce them here. We are a very hot country and solar energy will be an ideal alternative to hydro energy. Lets wait and see.

    • Actually the PF has done very well to minimize power shortages…power failure will be a thing of the past in 2years time…

  2. Given you are above the rest, let the haters talk in the name of “freedom of expression”. Anybody who has been to the so called Intercity Bus Terminus can attest to the fact that we need to change the way business is being done there. Way to go man!

  3. Keep Kazimu is South Africa please, he is giving us the opportunity to see our leaders, some who have been hibernating for months. Well done Kazimu for getting them out, continue doing your thing so we can see our leaders.

  4. When will the circus end! First it was Buffoon Idi Amin Kambwili, followed by Zayelo! The money being spent on Kasimu can save a lot of lives in Zambia. Let him and his father kick the bucket!

  5. I hope there is a visitor’s signing-in book from State House at Millpark Hospital for these appeasers….people are dying in hospitals and they busy looking for brownie points in RSA instead of lobbying the govt via policies to improve health facilities.
Zambia needs a new generation of leaders not these empty suits and tins.

  6. After 50 years of ‘independence’ Zambia still sending delegations abroad to study simple automated ticketing system, what a shame! I hope they have now stopped importing paper ice cream cups and the little wooden spoons.
Can Kazimu and Tiberth be sent back to Zambia now that they are conscious, the UTH can’t be that poor to fail to take care of the rest of their full recovery. Save money for Zambia’s medical facilities.

    • The university of zambia could have done a better job. they would have designed the ticketing system, explored all systems which are unknown to conditions in SA, created an administration and management system and even would have given training sessions for the new system. But alas, our leadership thinking, if we do it at unza, there will be no flying to SA,Europe and no substantial allowances. Jay jay is right, these leaders are visionless. Unza has a lot of projects in engineering lying idle there waiting for implementation e.g, automated street cleaning trucks with water ejectable nozzles. these are projects the council can take on and clean the streets efficiently. Under TDAU, they can modify trucks to fit the designs. And we wouldnt even have to import nothing. But……..????????

    • @Zagaze, in Zambia it is not about utilising what we have or our intellect, it is about the politicians making some allowances…dollar per diem is the deciding factor. To them the question is ‘Who are UNZA students to sit on our happiness?’

  7. This delegation went to South Africa just to earn allowances . You can learn everything about a system from manuals . Same nonsense from UNIP,MMD & PF.

    • Politicians studying an automated system! where are the Engineers and technical staff at LCC? This is the kind of stuff that sends politicians to jail in the USA. Wonder why Africa continues to lag behind with such a waste of resources.

  8. How about just one delegation paying a visit to one mother who has just delivered her precious little baby on the floor of the UTH. And Zambians are just ndwiiii!!!

  9. “Mr. Lubinda also commended the Zambian High Commission to South Africa for keeping the nation informed on the condition of the two”

How about keeping the nation informed on the condition of Kazimu’s daddy who happens to be president of the nation?

  10. This criminal and crook son of SataN has now become a centre of attention! In his sick bed I hope he reflects on the day he abused his position and punched Journalist Zgambo for no reason at all!
The power of his evil father has gone to that UGLY small head of Kazwimu. True God has a way of revenge! Hope that SMASHED tiny balded head, will be normal enough to remember anything!! It could end up as a cabbage or vegetable only to remind his devil father, SataN, that it’s immoral to make jokes about illnesses! The devil is now seated on Kazwimu’s dry and ugly head to harvest the vegetables!
What’s wrong with Taberth also? Every stment is now “Kazimu and Taberth” as if they are married!! How can she sink so low to be a sperm chamber for scoundrels like Kazwimu? Where’s his NEW wife-by…

  11. lubinda we have never heard you visit your constituents at UTH or Levy Mwanawasa hospital. its nauseating that these useless mps and ministers are busy lining up to see kazimu yet they never bother to see their voters in the constituencies. how many times has kambwili gone to roan hospital to visit his electorates. this is bull**. hypocritical. bootlicking

  12. These people do not care about common men that is why they go to Israel and South Africa for this so called specialist treatment or should we call it medical tourist. what about those people at UTH delivering babies on the floor. Those who care should visit Nchanga North Hospital ward 3 and see why these people go to these places for treatment. One EN on duty for god how many patients. No beddings and fluids for the drip because all the money is spent on Kazimu and his Dad’s medical bills they accrue in Israel South Africa india and some places that we don’t know.

  13. ..while on one hand I wish and pray for Kazimu and Tiberth for a quick recovery, on the other hand …Dr Kasonde and team should be ashamed of themselves, One of the changes people voted for was to see such case being professionally and diligently administered within Zed. What is at Milpark Hospital which we do not have or cannot acquire for our Intensive Care Units?..Those guys were not evacuated for specialist medical attention….all what they are receiving is Intensive care…of which I’m sure we do have adequate facility, equipment and of course able professionals to do exactly what these guys are receiving at Milpark. I hope one MP from the opposition will ask Kasonde for the total cost we are incurring as tax payers…..

  14. Snowden Lubinda visit Kazimu, UPND and Watch dog have more now infor to try and embarrass his excellence President Sata and his family

  15. I hope this guys are paying for their air tickets accommodation and transport within RSA. These guys do not travel alone they have an entourage and the tax payer achula. We can not continue to pay their travels when we do not have drugs in the hospital.

  16. Lubinda kwa tucawa, wa swabisa! That boy brought it upon himself and you know kwahae mu ipulai halilwi. Neba tona tucawa too ku “mukuwa” ya potoloha kacacani kauke inoosha hatuna tuso. Sata u swani ni situpu mazazi a, ku felile ka kayonge ka kasiyale.

  17. I think it’s criminal to belittle anyone who has a compassionate heart to go and see Kazimu and his fellow accident victim just because we hate Sata so bad. This is absolute evil where even compassion has deserted us. To Given Lubinda I give my thanks for he’s acting not as a lozi but a Zambian with the interest of others at heart. Tribal inclination are a thing of the past now however would want to continue on that path.

  18. Iwe we don’t hate Sata, we just hate this trend continuing and only applying to politicians and there relatives. These politicians would rather leave the healthcare sector poor and undeveloped because they know they can fly to Milpark. Meanwhile poor Zambians are dying because they cannot afford to fly to SA for better health services!
