Muslims complain of ill-treatment by police

Share

The construction of a mosque in Lusaka's Rhodes park residential area is almost complete. Here workers, doing final touches to the surrounding

The Muslim Community in Lusaka says it is concerned about the increased human rights abuse against its general membership by government authorities in Zambia.

And the Muslim community says there is no chance or room for gay-ism in their religion- Islam.

In four separate petitions to the Legal and Justice Sector Reforms Commission in Chawama today, representatives of the Muslim community told the commission that their members are facing discrimination and violation of their human rights in courts, prisons, police stations and in many other public institutions where they are forced to do what is against the Quran.

Chawama Mosque Youth Forum Leader Elias Sinkala told the Commission that Muslims in Zambia are not recognized as citizens as they are un-candidly treated in courts such as taking oath using the bible and told to remove their head gears especially at police stations.

He explained that forcing Muslims to take off their head gears at police stations is a violation of their human rights as individual who
belong to a religion which is recognized by the constitution.

And commenting on homosexual practices in Zambia, Mr. Sinkala said his religion has no room for such as his religion only recognizes marriage between a man and a woman or two.

Mr. Sinkala stated that it Islam does not allow men to marry fellow men saying doing so was against the law.

And Nancy Musa who was representing the Chawama Mosque narrated how she was made to remove her head scuff at the National Registration Office for her to take her side photo.
Ms. Musa however said she was shocked to see celebrities who were in dreads where not treated in the same manner.

She noted that public officers perceive Muslims to be foreigners who she said was not the case and added that officers should be educated that Zambia has people of different religions.

And another member of the Islam Bamus Seif Tembo also complained that Muslim leaders are not recognized by police as leaders who can sign for bond when their member has been found to be in conflict with the law.

Tembo wondered why the police should deny Muslims such rights when Christian leaders enjoy such rights.

He also complained that Muslims in Prisons are subjected to eat food which are deemed illegal by their religion because the prisons do not
provide their food.

But Commission Chairman Frederick Chomba explained that in some cases Police officers take it that all citizens are the same such that they make them remove their head gears without intentions of discriminating the Muslim community.

Justice Chomba however noted that in some instance the public officers’ error hence stated that discrimination against one religion is not
encourage in the country.

  1. I know for a fact that Muslims in Zambia are treated way better than they are treated in Islamic countries.

    • Just say that you do not want to use tissue in prison but buckets to ass wipe the poop. Can a Christian kiss in public or drink Jameson in public in Saud Arabia ,Iran & so forth. You even jail pipo just over hair cuts! Against the old stop the rot maggots!!

    • Islam is a disease, terrorism is its symptom. The world without Islam would be so much better. People need to stop making excuses. Wherever Islam is, Death and destruction follow.

    • Next will be that they are uncomfortable with womens faces and the way they dress, then it will be traditional ceremonies, then there’ll be a problem with girls going to school, then a problem because you don’t move out of the way when some sheikh is in your path, then non of us will be allowed to eat biltong and bacon but they will be the victims and they will complain and be self righteous until they start asking to have Sharia law and with the shambles that is our law system, confusion will occur u til they petition for the country to be Sharia as a solution. Sorry, but this is the general trend of some of the disingenuous in the particular religion.

  2. This is how muslims start their terrorist behaviours, can the police continue to check they are not making any bombs please.

  3. Why are the Muslims even tolerated in Zambia? Have you heard of any Christian Church in Saudi? The answer is there are NO official churches in Saudi Arabia of any Christian denomination,

    • Have you been there? You speak with such blatant authority it is a mess. There are churches in Saudi Arabia, however, these are churches steeped in tradition and not those that you find in neighborhoods in Zambia. Next time comment only about what you REALLY know.

    • Kalok, you don’t know what you’re talking about. I lived in Saudi for 4 years and there are no churches there, as they’re not allowed. If you try to enter with a Bible they will grab it at the airport and throw it in the airport trash.

I wonder why most Zambians just like talking without facts – yaaba!!

    • @Mayo mpapa I think you are using a broad brush with your statement. You and I know the proselytizing rule in most of the Middle East and you will agree that aside from what you have said they DO HAVE churches but controlled. That was the thrust of my statement there if you followed. Unlike you, I am still in that region and I speak from very, very current information. In which city were you when you were in Saudi Arabia. Do you know that pork is available in major cities but not in smaller ones?

    • There are no churches in Saudi Arabia. FACT. Controlled or not controlled there are CHURCHES. Christians meet in homes or gyms and have to show passports to demonstrate that they are foreigners. A Saudi national cannot be a christian or else be sentenced to death. In Zambia, a Phiri can be a moslem and no questions asked.

    • Kalok, you are economical with truth. What can you say about that sudanese woman who was sentenced to death for being a christian? Is that what you call freedom of worship under so called sharia law? Actually, you must admit that your fellow muslims are treated better in Zambia than what christians go through in countries like Sudan, Saudi Arabia and many others. It is clear that Islam is a very oppressive religion. Muslims are just hypocrites who think that they are more righteous than anybody else. Please Kalok, stop deceiving us. We are aware of the evils of Islam. We are aware of your suicide bombers who are killing innocent people in the name of defending islam. Your mosques are actually training grounds for murderers.

    • @Kalok, I lived in Riyadh, Jeddah and Al-Khobar from 1996-2000. That was the time even our own Elijah Litana was plying his soccer trade there – in Riyadh.

So if you’re talking about pork in the American compound or Embassy you could be right – because Western embassies have autonomies in their own enclosures.

Even when you meet in private homes to worship, it’s still a private endeavor and you do not want the mutawas (religious police) to know. Also, as a non-Muslim you are not allowed to enter the cities of Mecca and Medina. That’s Saudi for you!!

  4. Muslims are less tolerant and thus they often verbally or physically attack members of other religions.

  5. An Iranian judge sentenced a Christian man to have his lips burnt with a cigarette for eating during the day in the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

The barbaric punishment was carried out in public in a square in the city of Kermanshah.

Five other Muslim men were also flogged in public with 70 lashes for not fasting during Ramadan, the city’s deputy governor Ali Ashraf Karami said.

A spokesperson from The National Council of Resistance of Iran, a political coalition which opposes the government, denounced the treatment as ‘savage’ and called on western countries to take action.

They said: ‘The silence of the world community, especially of western countries, vis-à-vis these medieval punishments under the excuse of having nuclear talks with Iran has intensified the…

  6. “Friday at noon was the deadline for Christian families to meet ISIS’s demands: Convert to Islam, pay an anachronistic Islamic tax for non-Muslims known as jizya, leave Mosul, or be killed. But the day before the final exodus, Christians were informed jizya was no longer an option. The order came to convert, leave, or die.”

This “anachronistic Islamic tax” is actually in the Qur’an, which no Muslim would describe as anachronistic: “Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, (even if they are) of the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued” (Qur’an 9:29).

  7. Gov’t needs to lessen immigration from this section. Being asked to remove a scarf in front of authority for gov’t requirements is not cruelty. Muslim communities live better than Zambians. In Chipata they practically own the town. There is no large catherdral or church as prominent as their mosque, which is a shame to Zambia for allowing a religion different to state faith to impose upon the simple people of Chipata. Chief Mpezeni needs funds to build a Central Christian church to empower Indigenous people. Little Bombay must be scattered by opening Zambian businesses among them until there are more than the current Asian shops. These people are I’m posters that take over other cultures; not acceptable. We can’t afford this potential violence.

  8. Watch those Muslims, they have started complaining about nothing and the next will be the unleashing of suicide bomb squads. they can be ruthless.

  9. Oh please, look who is talking! you must condemn the actions of your fellow *****s in other Mostlame countries. Your religion is responsible for most of the wars going on now and you have no respect for your own women. Now you are crying for a chance to mess-up Zambia. Just go away already!

  10. These chaps are just being cry-babies, complaining about non-issues. In my view, they want an excuse to to start carrying out their usual nefarious activities in Zambia. Zambia’s intelligence services should monitor them very closely.

  11. Why don’t they just go elsewhere if they feel uncomfortable in Zambia? We are not going to change our laws and traditions to suit them. They have caused enough damage on the continent already. They will never leave peacefully with Christians as long as their beliefs are contrary to the Christian faith. Water and oil can’t mix.

  12. Just check how Christians are being treated in the middle east and beyond. No need to give these killers a chance to talk rubbish in our beloved Zambia.

    • The majority of anti-Christian persecution in the world in 2013 took place at the hands of Muslims, according to a list by Open Doors USA .The nondenominational group supporting persecuted Christians worldwide recently released its 2014 World Watch List, that describes and ranks anti-Christian persecution in a list of the 50 worst countries for the past year.

    • It reported increasing violence against Christians in Africa, and said radical Muslims were the main source of persecution in 36 countries on its list – both in Islamic countries and in non-Muslim countries such as Kenya (ranked 40th), Ethiopia (17th) and Tanzania (49th).The top country where Christians suffer, for the 12th consecutive year, remained communist North Korea, though the nine following countries in the top ten were Islamic: Somalia, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, Maldives, Pakistan, Iran and Yemen.

    • Open Doors said earlier this month that it had documented 2,123 “martyr” killings over the year, compared with 1,201 in 2012. There were 1,213 such deaths in Syria alone last year, it said.

    • The one glaring fact that emerges from this report,” American-born scholar Raymond Ibrahim said in his analysis of the statistics on the Christian Broadcasting Network News website, “is that the overwhelming majority of Christian persecution around the world today is being committed at the hands of Muslims of all races, languages, cultures and socio-political circumstances: Muslims from among America’s allies (Saudi Arabia) and its enemies (Iran); Muslims from economically rich nations (Qatar) and from poor nations (Somalia and Yemen);

    • Muslims from ‘Islamic republic’ nations (Afghanistan) and from ‘moderate’ nations (Malaysia and Indonesia); [and] Muslims from nations rescued by America (Kuwait).”Ibrahim, the son of Coptic Christian Egyptian parents, is a Shillman fellow at the David Horowitz Freedom Center, an associate fellow at the Middle East Forum and author of a new book, titled Crucified Again: Exposing Islam’s New War on Christians, that documents the suffering of Christians in the region.

    • He noted that in countries that underwent “Arab Spring” uprisings, increased persecution occurred after the regimes collapsed.“Muslim persecution of Christians,” Ibrahim said, is “part of a continuum that started nearly 14 centuries ago.”

  13. We should be tolerant of one another, Muslims are an integral part of our society. Our society is composed of diverse cultures and we have been living in relative harmony for the past 50 years. Lets not allow a situation to develop where we will have fanatical insurgents who sort problems via violence.

We already have problems of governance where the president, supposedly healthy, is hiding from his people.

  14. These muslim scum will treat you much, much worse in their puritanical and culturally backward countries.Lets not treat these heartless animals with kid gloves.

  15. look wats happening in nigeria, bcoz of muslims ,and our own was abducted by them in sudan, what more do they want

  16. Just say that you do not want to use tissue in prison but buckets to ass wipe the poop. Can a Christian kiss in public or drink Jameson in public in Saud Arabia ,Iran & so forth. You even jail pipo just over hair cuts! Against the old >>>>

  17. my friend we have been torelate to dis muslims in any case they shouldnt be allowed in zambian being declared a christion nation,we av seen how dis religion violent it is.how they av caused so many deaths to other nations,so for me personally they should be greatful to the christian people of Zambian for the peace they av enjoyed so far and for them to start complaining that their rights ar being violeted is asking for to much.wats so special about them to stop folowing wat the law stipulates? they can go to hell if they feel mistreated.

  18. I hate religion, tribes and clans!
Wars have been fought because of these.
Tolerance and Embracing Diversity are the keys to peace!
Unfortunately, we have not known peace and we seem to be already at war of words.
The lingering uncertainty about the whereabouts of our kateka, our bad constitution, our weak institutions, poverty and the corruption it fuels – all these have exposed our fragile country to bad foreign elements. We may never be at peace henceforth seeing that fundamentals for peace are generally lacking.

  19. The time is coming when the Zambian people will miss FTJ for his bold stand on Christianity. All it would take in Zambia is a little bending of Christian values and before you know it they have infiltrated the government and start making demands like they own the place.
Some of you might not have seen it but there was a video of Boko Haram members on Saharatv beheading an army officer and while holding his head they started shouting their usual praises to Allah. Very sickening.

    • Come on, get real. Who is going to miss FTJ and his self-flagellation love for his ‘god’, well heeled shoes and large women. This fellow was a master crook dwarf who impoverished Zambia, banking millions of dollars and buying suits worth 1 million dollars while the majority of Zambians had closed their eyes praying. Dipping your fingers into the government till and donating to his ‘chosen’ churches is not the kind of Christianity, i admire.

  20. Maybe they can go live in the Islamic State under their new Caliph Ibrahim, aka Abu Bakr Al Bagdhadi. Maybe, just maybe, they won’t have anything to complain about.

  21. Please, every Zambian whether a moslem or Christian must obey the law of the Land. Why should moslems be exempted from obeying the law. GRZ please monitor these violent people , this is how they start, bit by bit until they turn into Boko Haram. Don’t listen to them , in fact make the law more strict. Why should a person get a passport or NRC with his face or Head covered? This is non-sense..shame on these violent moslems. Shame on them.

  22. Be on lookout. That is how they start hiding under human rights. A girl in Sudan sentenced to hanging for denouncing islam to christianity. What are they talking about, mostly are joining islam because of financial help. They are very cruel and don’t hesitate to kill in the name of their religion….shouting Allah… Thanks very much to the gallant and vigilant zambia security. most of them are running away from somalia after participating genocide to hide in zambia. If such was said in muslim country it would have costed a christian his/her head. we call a spade a spade.

  23. They should actually be happy that they are in Zambia and are tolerated because if they continue making silly monkey noises like this, I would ask Kabimba to talk to Sudan so that we can deport them all to Khartoum. Alternatively, we can ask the Hamas leader Sheik Khaled Meshaal to take them to Gaza so that they can face the wrath of the chosen ones of Allah!

  24. Please note my comments below and take them seriously:

    1. Muslims in Zambia were quiet, peaceful and law abiding because most of them were Zambians of Indian origin and indigenous Zambians.

    2. The Somali Muslims and Rwandees are mostly not genuine refugees but fugitives who had committed heinous crimes in their countries. These people are not moved by blood. The ordinary poor Somalis and Rwandans could not afford to migrate this far and remain in those countries or neighbouring countries.

    3. Somali Muslims are uncompromising. They transformed Islam in their country into a “culture” so that whoever broke it was condemned by society with the state as the vanguard. In Somalia Christianity is not tolerated. You are either muslim or an enemy. My Zambia, the Jihad has arrived.

    • We have heard so much about the peaceful Muslims , let them fish out the terrorists and those who are a threat to peace and report them to the police to justify that they are peaceful, they know who they are, otherwise it is hard to believe that statement. Actions speak louder than words .

    • Are you one of them claiming to be a christian to deceive us . Kenya issued a security report after the Westgate attack which the media reported on indicating that the next target was Kenya’s interest abroad and Zambia was next , The Government responded that they were taking action to protect Zambia. A few days ago ZWD reported that they have entered the country as Hair plaiters and the Zambian Security is aware and is taking action. Zambia belongs to Jesus and is under the blood of Jesus. We declare Psalm 91 over Zambia. May they have a Damascus experience. All Zambians need to be on high alert and report suspicious activities to the Police.

    • Christians in Zambia need to be very prayerful and cover Zambia under the blood of Jesus 24/7, every second, minute, hour, day, week, year etc.

  25. I would advise Zambians to be careful how we deal with this serious threat to the peace and harmony enjoyed since independence. Let us use God’s wisdom.
In Mathew 5 verses 43 – 48 the Lord Jesus urges us to love our enemies and pray for them as children of God. Secondly, let the State adopt a secular constitution that provides freedoms of religion. This will allow religions to coexist in line with the principle in Mathew 13 verse 30. God blesses both the righteous and evil people. Let us not worry for God because He is capable of taking care of Himself and His own. Legislating Christianity will transform Zambia into a “Christian Saudi Arabia”. declaring other religions illegal. That is a seed for conflict. I am a born again Christian – John 3:3-7. America’s constitution is secular.

    • Kenya welcomed them even incorporated Joint prayer sessions between Christians and Muslims, look at what is happening to Kenya where they are even protecting
fellow Muslims . The Zambian Defense forces , Police and Security wings need special training on how to combat terrorism by countries that are successfully combating it. In fact the whole of Southern Africa needs the special training . The response by Nigeria and Kenya is unacceptable

    • The African Union, SADCC and all other relevant African bodies need to play a critical role in stabilizing all the countries in Africa that are unstable and are a breeding ground for Terrorism. Africa should not be known for all the bad. May Africa arise and shine and let the Glory of the Lord cover it.

    • @Let me say this…. Stop viewing things from the western perspective. Muslims should not be allowed a platform. Not in Mother Zambia.

  26. @Wantanshi. I beg to differ with you. We DO NOT WANT the Boko Haram style in Zambia. We have our own problems to sort out. Let them go to countries where they feel comfortable. The French have made it clear. France is for the French, if they want to maintain their custom of even wanting to take an NRC in their fake attires, Saudi Arabia is their place. Bad hypocrites.

  27. The militia of the self-proclaimed Islamic Caliphate having successfully driven all the Christians and Shiites from the city of Mosul in Iraq, has stepped up their campaign on ruthless persecution.

  28. In terms of covering the country can bend laws to suit a religion. In order for one to get an NRC a person is not to have any head covering and they should have natural hair .The Rastas have natural hair so that not a problem dreeds are natural hair.Concerning swearing may that can be considered They can swear using a Quran since they are muslim. There its understandable.

  29. Meant …in terms of head covering the country cannot bend laws for a religion….concerning swearing may be that can be considered using a Quran…That is understandable

  30. There is no such thing as a good muslim. Police should monitor these chaps more now that we ve allowed Somalians and other undesirables into this country

  31. It would be improper for me a resident of chipata not to comment on this issue. To begin with muslims here a treated far far much better than our christian friends in kanu, kaduna etc. Where just attending a church service is a dangerous as working on fire bear feet. The complaint raised in their submission is for few and selected cases which should not be generalized to the whole islamic community…they even have a big marking on one of the roads in little Bombay ” Gaza”. Isn’t that freedom enough. Can u make such a marking on the road in islamic countries without be flogged or stoned to death. Our sisters change faith every now and then while they hide their daughters in veils and big gates… And you say you are not free.

  32. The story currently running in the media about the Sudanese woman who was condemned to death for converting to Christianity by the Sudanese government tells you everything you need to know about Islam. Zambia is a secular state and all Zambian citizens regardless of religious affiliation must follow the government rules and regulations the same way Christians living in Islamic nations follow the Sharia or Islamic law. Jut recently a British couple was jailed for kissing in public in U.A.E. Muslims are such hypocrites when in fact others tolerate them more than they tolerate others.

  33. Just recently I read that there was a man who was disguised as a woman and she was wearing guess what a scarf around her head. Look at the atrocities committed by Hamas, they are using human shields and who are these human shields women and children. They even go as far as storing weaponry in classrooms and hospitals. What type of people are these?

  34. Man made laws have gone to your heads. Had Zambia been ruled by the bible most of you would feel discriminated. You would have no female pastors, there would be no alcohol or clubs,no homosexuals,no premarital sex. Ladies would have to dress decently_probably like the virgin Mary who wore scarves like muslims do. So no modelling ladies. And if christ came back would he be dressed like Obama or the king of Saudi with a beard and a robe? Do the math so called christians.

  35. We have tolerated this evil religion for a long time. It’s time we did the same like Angola. No land must be allocated for building of mosques anywhere in Zambia.UK,especially Birmingham is under siege from these Muslims and guess what? They are in Syria helping Assad to remain in power.
Who is in the forefront of Female Genital Mutilation,Suicide bombs,Firing missiles at Israel,Killings and abductions in Nigeria etc MUSLIMS UNDER ISLAM!
Their allah is blood thirst. He derives pleasure in killings and promises them virgins!

  36. Father in the name of Jesus, we cover Zambia under the blood of Jesus, cover our churches, airports, stadiums, malls and every public place under the blood of Jesus. Raise up intercessors who will give you no rest to intercede and pray for Zambia day and night. We pray for all terrorists to have a Damascus road experience and to know you in a powerful and mighty way. May they experience the love of Jesus Christ. Reveal yourself to every Muslim living in Zambia may they experience the love of Jesus Christ and may they come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
