GOVERNMENT says it will complain to FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) over the misconduct of Ethiopian referee Bamlak Weyesa during Saturday’s Confederation Cup match between Nkana and Etoile du Sahel of Tunisia.

And Nkana coach Beston Chambeshi said his team’s victory over Tunisian giants has motivated his players to beat Al Ahly of Egypt in next Saturday’s Confederations Cup Group B return match.

Minister of Youth and Sport Chishimba Kambwili made the announcement in Luanshya yesterday that both FIFA and CAF would be communicated to on the poor officiating of the match by the 33-year-old Weyesa.

“I would like to inform the nation that I am extremely disappointed with the way the Nkana match was handled yesterday [Saturday] by the Ethiopian referee,” the minister said.

Kambwili has also requested Nkana to complain to CAF over the poor handling of the match by the Ethiopian.

Nkana beat Sahel 4-3 with the Tunisian team being awarded two questionable penalties, one in the fourth minute which Youssef Mouihbi converted to put his side ahead and again stepped up to score the second penalty at the nick of time with the Zambians leading 4-2 at the time.

“I told the referee personally that I was going to write CAF to complain about the manner he handled the match and I want to urge Nkana FC to lodge in an official complaint about the way the game was handled,” he said.

“And as minister, I am writing to FIFA and CAF to complain and urging them to review the video of the game and see what had transpired. Games are there to bring people together and bring unity, but games are not there to disunite the people.

“But if referees are not fair in the way they handle the games, then we are going to have a lot of problems…so as a country, we are officially going to lodge in a complaint to both CAF and FIFA,” he said.

And speaking in a post-match interview on Saturday, Chambeshi said his team will now concentrate on preparing for the next match against Al Ahly to ensure they collect maximum points.

Chambeshi said the technical bench will work on the defence that looked shaky on Saturday to avoid conceding unnecessary goals against Al Ahly.

“It’s a good victory for the team and the boys. It’s not easy to score against Arab teams but we managed to do it. We need to maintain the same spirit even in our next match against Al Ahly,” Chambeshi said.

Nkana have four points, four behind leaders Al Ahly, who edged Sewe Sport of Ivory Coast 1-0 in a late kick off in Cairo.

  1. I think kambwili should pick up a kambwili and go cultivate a field somewhere. This is not things #sivinthu ivi

    • Kambwili must be fired as Sports Minister.
FAZ and Nkana need to apologize to FIFA on behalf of Kambwili, or else the 3 points will stripped from Nkana, plus penalty for government interference. These are moments when Kalusha always comes to rescue Zambia. Kalu will handle clean it up for Kambwili.
I hope CAF bring back the same referee to officiate next weekend at Nkana.

    • Does this fool know what he is doing? This is Government Interference and can cause Zambia to be banned on any sports activities?? Let him ask Nigerians who are much stronger than this fat pig, called a sports Minister. This is not PF buy stops Kambwili?? You should be the one to apologize.

  2. But don’t we have FAZ to pursue this matter? Why should the whole Ministerial-ship get involved in such petty issues way lower than the office of the minister?
Hounding sports officials and threatening violence is part of the job description of a Minister of sport.

No skopo uyu Minister, niwa chabe chabe.

    • I concur with you. The Minister has no jurisdiction in this matter neither did he on the issue concerning the banned boxer. In the latter case, he got involved only because the boxer involved belongs to D/Minister Mwenya Musenge’s stables. Kambwili clearly does not know where his Ministerial boundaries end. In the Nkana case, the match commissioner has a lot of evidence against Kambwili as there are photos clearly showing him confronting the match officials contrary to both CAF and FIFA rules.

  3. Ba Kambwili naimwe, get a life. Nkana won, it’s not like they lost the game. Mexico were denied two clean goals at Worldcup2014 against Cameroon. They went on to win and we never saw that type of foolish protests from Mexicans. The truth is that you invaded the pitch to seek political mileage from the Copperbelt crowd as you vie for PF presidency. That’s the only plausible explanation

  4. in what capacity imwe ba mbuya. kambwili! kabwili! kambwili! how many times did i call you? three times, you are right. sober up! did you hear that . i said sober up!

  5. this man is mad,it’s a curse to have such people as leaders.he messed and risks nkana being sanctioned and now he wants to hoodwink us. this silly man has to be taught how to behave like an honourable man.he thinks fifa is like pf where they condone poopoo.

  6. Kabwili, don’t take things personal. I think you are not the right person to complain, plse behave like a fully grown chap.

  7. I think Kambwili is right. We Zambians we take matters softly. If a referee is chosen by FIFA it means is qualified to official on the game. However Looking at the way the game was handled we can suspect some element of corruption or match fixing on the part referee and the visiting team. The government and FAZ pay affiliations fees from which the referee are paid from which must not be abused by the stupid officiating.

  8. NO NEED FOR SUCH BAD WORDS AGAINST THE HONOURABLE MINISTER, BUT MAYBE TO ASK THE FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION (FAZ) TO ADVISE THE HONOURABLE MINISTER TO REFRAIN FROM WHAT HE DID AND POSSIBLY LEAVE THE PROTEST TO BE DONE BY FAZ. IF THE MINISTER GOES AHEAD WITH THE PROTEST LETTER TO FIFA WITH THE MATCH OFFICIAL’S REPORT THERE TOGETHER WITH THE FOOTAGE, WHICH I GUESS ARE BOTH WITH FIFA BY NOW THEN FIFA WOULD INTERPRET THAT AS INTERFERING WITH THE INTENTION OF ATTACKING THE MATCH OFFICIALS BY NOT A FAN BUT A MINISTER OF ZAMBIAN FOOTBALL ADMINISTRATION AND THE PUNISHMENT COULD BE HARD WITH A HEFTY FINE WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF THE MINISTER BEING ASKED TO STAY AWAY FROM ALL FOOTBALL ACTIVITIES.

TO THE HON. MINISTER, PLEASE DO NOT GO AHEAD WITH YOUR INTENTIONS BUT ASK FAZ ON HOW BEST TO APPROACH IT.

    • Or to put it in a plain English, Hon. Minister should learn to behave as a civilized human and not as average PF thug.

  9. Kambwili like his boss and the rest of the garbage in govt is a total embarrassment to our republic. I hope Fifa will take steps to teach this shameless punk a lesson. He is a blundering id!ot who does not take time to think things through. He is the one who wanted to force us to accept a stup!d name for a national stadium. Zambia is really in the hands of pigs, shamelessly his boss criss crosses the globe hunting for medical facilities instead of using his own. When are they going to stop tarnishing our image as a nation?

    • IF YOU ARE WANTANSHI, IN OUR LANGUAGE IT MEANS THE FIRST ONE, THE LEADER OR THE FIRST BORN AND YOU CANNOT LEAD ON INSULTS PLEASE. YOU WILL BE SETTING A PRECEDENCE. WE HAVE BEEN COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS TYPE OF LANGUAGE IN SOME SOCIAL MEDIA, BUT SHOULD WE TURN THIS ONE AS WELL INTO ANOTHER OF THOSE? GET ANNOYED-YES, YOU ARE ENTITLED TO THAT BUT DO NOT INSULT. YOU CAN TAKE HON. KAMBWILI FOR WHAT HE SAYS AND DOES BUT HE IS OUR MINISTER. YOU DO NOT CHANGE HIM BY INSULTING HIM BY PROVIDING THE REQUIRED GUIDANCE – DO NOT TELL ME HE CANNOT BE ADVISED BECAUSE YOU HAVE NOT TRIED THAT.

  10. CONTIN….. WE HAVE SEEN WORSE REFEREEING THAN WHAT WE SAW IN THAT GAME (REMEMBER THE DIRAMBA OFFICIATING?) BUT YOU DO NOT RESOLVE IT THE WAY THE MINISTER WANTED IT. REMEMBER THAT THE FOOTAGE SHOWS SECURITY PERSONNEL PROTECTING THE MATCH OFFICIALS AND FIFA’S INTERPRETATION OF THAT MAY BE IN THEIR OWN WAY OF LOOKING AT THE SCENES. AS SAID, SHOULD THERE BE NEED TO COMPLAIN, THEN LET FAZ DO IT BUT WE SHOULD NOT EXPECT ANYTHING ATALL IN TERMS OF PUNISHMENT TO MATCH OFFICIALS BUT POSSIBLY ON US AS AN ORGANISING COUNTRY FOR THAT GAME AND ESPECIALLY THAT IT CAME FROM OUR MINISTER RESPONSIBLE FOR SPORTS ADMINISTRATION IN THIS COUNTRY! GOOD LUCKY ZAMBIAN FOOTBALL.

    • @KALUMBA

I hear you and I will tone down. It is just that these people really make my blood boil. I appreciate your sober attitude. I am so frustrated that for 50 years of so called self-governing the quality of our leadership keeps sliding back to neanderthal and other eras of the past. Our leaders’ almost inhuman actions does little to raise a sense of optimism that things will one day get better.

    • No need for Wantanshi to tone down. This is the only language lumpen thugs like Kambwili understand. These are not ‘honorable’ people but hare brained morons who must be told off when they behave like the bafoons they are.

    • @WANTANSHI:

YOUR SUCH A LOVE TO ME AND POSSIBLY THE MANY CIVILISED PERSONS. YES, WE CAN AND SHOULD GET ANNOYED WITH OUR LEADERS WHEN THEY DO THINGS WE DO NOT APPRECIATE BUT INSULTING THEM IN MEDIA JUST DOES NOT GO WELL WITH PEOPLE LIKE ME. HOW MANY TIMES WERE OR HAVE WE BEEN UPSET BY OUR PARENTS AND HOW MANY TIMES HAVE WE THOUGHT OF INSULTING OR BEATING THEM IN PUBLIC OR EVEN IN PRIVATE? WE CANNOT ALWAYS HAVE LEADERS THAT WE WANT. ON HON. KAMBWILI, LET US URGE THOSE CLOSE TO HIM TO CONTINUE PROVIDING ADVISE TO HIM. AS A MINISTER, CHOICE OF WORDS AND HOW YOU RESPOND TO CERTAIN THINGS REALLY MATTER. MY FRIEND IN THE WESTERN WORLD ALWAYS KEEP MOCKING ME ABOUT THE WAY WE ARE APPLYING THE FREEDOM OF SPEECH IN OUR SOCIAL MEDIA. INSULTING OUR LEADERS LET ALONE OUR PRESIDENT? THANX A LOT MY…

  11. Hardly a week passes by without reading something f.oolish from this useless so-called minister.
The Nigerian Football Association has been banned by FIFA for their government’s interference in football affairs and it looks like Zambia will be next if Kambwili goes on like this. What’s so special about Kambwili that he can’t be sacked?

  12. This man does not learn, thick headed. We have structures in our country, it’s called FAZ who he should raise the complaint with, who should take up the issue and are capable of handling.
If such matters are going to be handled by Mr Kambwili, then FAZ should be disbanded so that Kambwili should handled sports matters including complaints against any referee in the country so that he impose discipline. Twafilwa mwe na ba minister, he claims he did not insult the referee but why was on the pitch? That in itself was inappropriate !

  13. I hope Caf will watch the video of the game tht Nkana played in Tunisia whr Tunisian soccer fans wr throwing fire walks in the pitch and no one complained was tht right if it allowed or not,
