Opposition UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema has urged his MMD counterpart Dr Nevers Mumba to desist from dragging the name of the UPND in efforts to revive his party.
Mr Hichilema said attacks from Dr Mumba that the UPND is a regional party for failing to attend the Umutomboko traditional ceremony is baseless.
Dr Mumba was quoted in the Post Newspaper stating that failure by the UPND to attend last weekend’s Umutomboka ceremony in Mwansabombwe is a sign that the UPND is a regional party and does not bother about other regions and their culture.
He said Dr Mumba should concentrate on sorting out the mess that it is currently going on in his party.
“Our message is clear, we are busy selling our message to the people and we will not engage in cat fights with the MMD. What we know is that Dr Mumba wants to use the UPND to help project the MMD in a more positive light but we will not help him with his crusade. The MMD has flagging fortunes and we can understand his desperation,” Mr Hichilema said.
Mr Hichilema explained that he failed to attend the Umutomboka because he had an engagement in South Africa adding that the UPND was however represented at the ceremony.
“I had to be in South Africa over the weekend but we sent representation to the ceremony. I respect all traditional ceremonies. I have been to Mwansabombwe three times in the recent past and our officials have attended a number of these ceremonies. You cannot use absence at the ceremony to talk about tribe,” he said.
Meanwhile, Opposition Movement for Multi-party Democracy (MMD) president Nevers Mumba says he is confident that his party will scoop the forth-coming local government and parliamentary by-elections on August 19.
Dr Mumba who is currently on a campaign trail in Milenge district says the MMD has never been in a political pact with the United Party for National Development (UPND).
Dr Mumba told ZANIS in an interview in Milenge yesterday that the UPND was however welcome to join the pact between MMD and other political parties if it was looking for opposition unity in the country.
Dr Mumba revealed that the MMD is in a pact with the Alliance for Better Zambia (ABZ) led by Father Frank Bwalya, The All Peoples Congress (APC) of Nason Msoni, Zambians for Empowerment and Development (ZED) whose president is Dr Fred Mutesa and the Peoples’ Party led by Mike Mulongoti.
The MMD Leader was speaking after addressing a rally to drum up support for Geston Mumba at Musolo village for the forth-coming local government by-election in the area.
Dr Mumba says there is no competition without hard work.
Dr Mumba says the on-going by election campaigns across the country call for hard work and sacrifice.
The MMD Leader is confident that his party will scoop the forth-coming by elections and does not feel threatened by the ruling Patriotic Front-PF.
He said the PF government has failed on its campaign promises and that the people of Zambia are no longer interested in its lies.
Dr Mumba said his party will remain truthful and build on the programmes that have been successful in the past while giving measurable promises to the electorate.
And when asked how his working relation was with the opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) the time they were in a PACT, Dr Mumba refuted the assertion saying his party has never been in a pact with the UPND.
Dr Mumba said the UPND is welcome to join if they were looking for an opposition unity in the country boasting that the MMD was a party with character and is represented in all the 10 provinces

So you are only tribal when you don’t attend Bemba ceremonies? This is typical Bemba arrogance being exhibited by Mumba. Which traditional ceremonies has Mumba attended? UPND has been advised on several occasions that a party can not be gauged on the basis of performance in by elections. UPND won the Solwezi-Central, Chilanga and Mufumbwe before the 2011 elections only to lose all the 3 constituencies when there was a general election. Even today UPND and its supporters are cheating themselves that the political landscape has changed in their favour but they forget that come a general election their vote count will be static the moment votes from southern province are tallied.

Let’s roll it back. Honestly, I came to hear of the name ‘Hakainde Hichilema’ in 2006, when Mazoka died. It was when UPND was trying to elect a new president when this name vibrated in my eardrums for the first time. The big questions original,genuine and fake members of UPND should answer are? Why did someone unknown to the Zambian public pushed his way into UPND and take over leadership of the party opportunistically after the death of Mazoka? Mazoka initiated the formation of UPND and presided over it for seven years, where was HH since he was never seen with Mazoka when he criss-crossed the country explaining the message of UPND?
Very easy to answer to answer that.
UPND wanted some one untainted with failed political parties of the past . Some one to bring a breath of fresh air to Zambian politics. Some body with astute understanding of how Zambia’s huge resources can be used to better the lives of the majority poor.
There you have it. Zambians are tired of failed recycled politicians from failed parties in government.
Is it enshrined in the UPND constitution that this party will forever be led by a person of Tonga descent? If not why were eligible people like Sakwiba Sikota, Patrick Chisanga, Bob Sichinga, Ben Tetamashimba who were not of Tonga descent hounded out by Tonga impis led by Ackson Sejani and Ng’ande Mwanajiti in favour of unkown Hakainde Hichilema? HH has been at the helm of UPND since 2006 and fortunes of the party have dwindled drastically, why can’t the party membership change top leadership to regain lost fame? When is UPND going for a convention to elect new executive members?
Umubemba inkonko you are partly correct this was done to counter those who were suspected to have killed Mazoka from benefiting from were they did not sow.It must be known that Bembas have practiced bad politics were they form pacts with oter tribes but once they form government they get the biggest share.Thats why UPND was formed to bring equality in Zambia to help benefit the other tribes like the Luvales ,Lundas ,kaondes ,Lozis and also the easterners.Thats why HH was the best candidate.HH is still abetter candidate because he will balance the cabinet because Sata has proved to baised that’s why 2016 all Zambians are geared to see that no Bemba speaking candidate will win.ITs all about rebareting themselves.We can nologer pretend that the Bembas are tribal and selfish.HH is a deal.

HH should consider aborting his opportunistic tour into politics. He is not given for this field. He was mistaken to think that money can buy anything including republican presidency. He has seen it for himself that if it was so easy his purported money could have paved his way into statehouse at his first attempt in 2006. He should realise that the tribal support that he depends on during national elections is not enough to make him king. He needs national acceptance. If HH will think of continuing as opposition UPND leader when he tumbles for the fourth time in 2016, he should be honoured with distinguished service in politics of hallucination.
What hatred the man is symbol of plunder which he championed during privatization. He is part of FTJ curtail which duped Zambians and his rise to politics is meant to finish business. Hence the reason he needs the presidency at whatever cost.
HH of UPND is lucky to be supported by people of southern province because he knows that even if he were to insult them they would continue to cling to him like ticks. However he should not take this tribal support for granted because this support is no more than 18% at national level. The major drawback of UPND is that it lacks inclusivity and because of this they will continue just to be participants in general elections.

It makes sad readings that even the so called men of God can afford to lower themselves to such levels where they ignore the fact that all men are equal. Men in this case refer to human beings. Pastor Mumba, my favourite preacher with his famous, “Zambia shall be saved”, should avoid engaging tribe for political gains. Pastor, use other avenues you will make it. Avoid stepping on other people’s shoulders to gain hight because if they doge you fall. Most of us do not like tribal politics. My mother comes from Chinsali off Nambuluma turn off, and my father from Monze west chief Moonze. So the pastor should imagine the problem he creates by issuing tribal remarks. Dr Mumba is very educated, let him allow tribal politics to belong to the less educated people.

Both Nevers Mumba and Munabi Lungu are making big political blunders by spending their energy attacking UPND. Their political immaturity was exhibited when they embarked on embarrassing senior leader of the MMD such as Mr. Kaingu, Dr. Chituwo, Mr. Mulusa and Madam Siliya. The apparent silence displayed by the three men and lady mean a lot on the future of MMD as 2016 approaches.
Wise and mature leadership must be characterised by deep understanding in the diversity of thinking in the structure of the party. Attacks on UPND will not help revive MMD.
Mr. Mumba is just incompetent. He has no story to tell. He has failed to revive the MMD. I doubt if the MMD will have more that 10 PMs after 2016 elections.

He failed to build even a small church during his time as a Pastor of Victory Ministries in Kitwe. Can such a person lead a country?

UPND is a tribal party and that is why they are stuck at 18% when it comes to popularity. Everything about UPND is tribal including analysis of the political environment. This is a party which has adopted a tribal analysis concluding that since Nevers Mumba of MMD does not hail from Central & Eastern Provinces then automatically the party will not fare well in these regions when elections are conducted.

Fortunately majority of Zambians moved away from voting on tribal lines a long time ago and that is why parties which are inclusive have been amassing more than 30% of national votes while the influence of those parties which have continued to embrace tribalism and have been in existence for more than a decade has failed to exceed 18%.

UPND can not win a national election and even HH said in 2011 that no single opposition party can win a national election and this explains his desperation to steal members from MMD but this will not work because no sane zambian can support a self confessed tribal party in the name of UPND.
The bickering on this blog reminds me of how futilely the Kenyans tried to own Barak Obama. Most of you here will not actually benefit from a so-called “wakwitu” presidency. Mark my words.
