Visiting Spanish football Coach has described Zambia’s football as slow and passive.

Speaking during a briefing in Lusaka last evening, Isaac Hernandez, of Barcelona Football club said Zambia just like other African countries has slow and passive football.

Hernandez was however quick to mention that Zambian and African football in general will improve with time as he urged them to implore new tactics and develop a culture of training players from their childhood.

He is hopeful that their coming to Zambia, Zimbabwe and Tanzania will contribute in improving the soccer standards.

And his colleague Daniel Alsina said their coming to Africa will enable them share new technics with youths and local coaches.

The sponsor of the African tour, Castle Lager and Zambia Breweries represented by David Minja and Luke Njovu pledged continued support for football in Zambia and hope to see high standards of soccer after the 48 hour coaching clinics by the two FCB Coaches.

Meanwhile, the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) said it is committed to improving soccer standards especially from the grass root level.

  1. Exactly being saying this for years. We are too too nice, not aggressive enough or even passionate enough. Look at what North and west Africans do to us. Bully us even Sudan did it last year in our own background, I was thinking omg we are too soft. I know it’s not in our nature or our make up as Zambians to be aggressive that’s why we have peace in our beautiful country for so long but when it comes to sport we need yo switch up at all levels of our sport maybe we on more medals and trophies . God bless and have a nice day

    • I think you missed the point pal! Its not about being violent. Lionel messi is a gentleman but when it comes to trying to put the ball behind the opponents net, he is very aggressive. Zambian passes and movements on the pitch are usually casual and without purpose and aggression. We also don’t seem to practice how to convert set pieces. Only great Kalu used to score set pieces. His ”benders” were even better than David Berkam’s. In Europe, a set piece is ”half a goal”.

    • spartan you are very correct indeed hahahahaha. Just like being Meek is not ukufuka as most Zambians think. It means be proactive and vibrant. Zambia needs to get over the inferiority complex as well. Play hard and train too.

  2. I agree with you 100% Syd. but we need serious football academys to teach 8yrs how to be quick and passonate about this game. otherwise we are still far, still a lot of work to do.

  3. It is not only in football, Zambians are slow and passive in nearly everything.
Think of dancing, walking, eating, speaking (listen to politician speeches), tell me about the Common Wealth games, probably Zambia was the last… slower than even Indians. Even in sex, women are slow and passive (I found best they can’t even compare with). And worse of the laughing, so damn annoying, especially the new PF style introduced by Kaseba…
Anyway anything can be improved by training and practicing. Bring more coaches.

  4. i think what the man is trying to say is that we are reluctant, we lack passion, we don’t look like we want to be winners, we don’t mind losing, and we are not serious in general.. this is the typical zambian culture, even in business we are like that, foreigners come bully us and open business and we don’t mind, as long as our passiveness gets us a ka salary then we just don’t mind….
