Republican President Michael Chilufya Sata says government expects all distributors of agriculture products to complement government’s efforts in promoting small and medium enterprises by fostering business linkages with local suppliers.

And President Sata has observed that Zambia is among the first ten fastest growing economies in the world and fourth in Sub Saharan countries.

In a speech read on his behalf by Republican Vice President, Dr. Guy Scott, at the official opening of the 88th Agricultural and Commercial Show in Lusaka today, President Sata says over the last three years, Zambia’s economy has been growing as an annual growth rate of just under 7 percent and that the goal of government is to increase the annual rate of growth to between 8 to 10 percent.

President Sata says government is in the process of revamping local textile industries to accelerate economic development in the manufacturing sector.

The Head of State recalls that in 2013 alone, four pieces of legislation aimed at reducing the regulatory burden of doing business in Zambia were enacted thereby eliminating twenty business licenses for one operator.

He says the latest ranking of bank doing business 2014 report improved the country’s standing by seven points from 90 in 2013 to 83 in 2014 out of one hundred and eighty nine countries but that there is still more work to be done.

Speaking earlier, Agriculture and Commercial Society of Zambia (ACSZ) President Anderson Murray thanked the Zambia Police Service for always being there for the society in providing security within the show grounds.

The 88th Agricultural and Commercial Show is held under the theme: ‘Breaking New Grounds’, while the sub-theme is ‘Commemorating 50 years of Zambia’s Independence’.

  1. Everything Under PF Government is unprecedented. This is a first.

I also look forward to Guy Scott opening parliament next month. Again it will be unprecedented in the history of the country

    • Ok sata is a spent politician if he was currency he would be a zimu dollar shaa
      TB JOSHUA KWAPULA PO NAFUTI..

    • This man called mwango katongo Sata who is enjoying good health,,,,,, is he caged at nkwiza house or what??,,,,,,,,, at least i expected to at least see his facebook photos of him in mangango or him opening the agricultural show,,,, this time around even facebook photos are not there!! kaya mwe,,,,, maybe its true that Sata is seeing ghosts!!!

    • @Ndobo, did you read/hear what @Kadobi wrote….. it is scary even to look forward to opening next Parliament. I think Mangango he will not make it, what if he has to take medicine where will get water? Ba Muka Yama will be tired feeding him, just to prepare him for that loooong standing.
Parliament speech is 2 hours long… here we go now. Ka Chellah better resign, because you be proved that you can’t be continue going about insulting people.
      Thanks @ Kadobi

    • @kadobi, please say it in vernacular otherwise the PF cadres won’t understand what unprecedented means. They will think “unpresident” a word/phrase that does not exist and bingo Mushota will come up with the “mad political analyst views” Just say ” tafyabula kucitika po pano pe sonde”

  2. Ok sata is a spent politician if he was currency he would be a zimu dollar shaa
    TB JOSHUA KWAPULA PO NAFUTI

  3. Sata is not doing too badly after all, he is a learned friend who knows and understands economy jargon such as ‘annual growth rate’ and ‘revamping industries to accelerate economic development’.

  4. Guy does a good job of work for Zambia on behalf of uncouth Sata, except when he insulted South Africans. They are still incensed with him, but are too mature to hit back at what is evidently a very mickey mouse govt.

    • We love the South Africans and they love us back. We loved them first and unconditionally and they love us back for the love we showed them when no one else loved them. Government should desist from creating unnecessary friction between these two great peoples of the great Southern African region. The struggle is over!

  5. You know we have peace in this country and opportunities are there for the taking. As much as the PF has made mistakes, we need to wake up and take them.

  6. How much is THIS OLD MAN Sata paid AGAIN every year? Let me remind you that the dead wood in State House is paid K414,406 (£42,000) with a special allowance of K108,934 (£10,600) every year. This is tax payers money here if the old man is incapable of carrying out simple day to day chores WHY on EARTH is he HOLDING the country to ransom.
Mr. President please step DOWN IN the nation’s interest (take Chellah and Fossil Chikwanda with you)..we didn’t elect you so you could send your ceremonial veep to read your speeches. Its either you are very LAZY or TERMINALLY ILL CHOOSE ONE!!

    • I have always wondered how much money the sick old man gets and that is too much just for swearing in his relatives and being off sick via being awol. It is very sad, we are better off having no president and putting that money to go use, after all we have managed since Sept 2011. PF are vile and so unfair on the ordinary Zambians.

    • @JayJay i dont understand the magnitude of your hate for our president but i urge you to sell your party’s econmical strategy for the nation unlike these erelevant ellucinations that post, the president is entitled to his renumeration regardless his condition.Zambians are comfortable with that until his term expires.Put on your seat belt my brother.

    • I saw Dr jay jay up there and said to my self jj has sobered up ,no more anger no bitterness ,then i scrolled down. Holy sh.it !! that was a wrong one. Here is the ever bitter Jay Jay . give this man a medal.

    • If you are not hurt by what is currently happening in the country you are EITHER docile and gullible OR dame right stup&d. As I’m typing we have momentarily been distracted by this frail SELFISH sickly president and the constitution is no longer main topic.

    • @JayJay..until the next election date its only right to focus our energies towards salling our party visions and our different economical plan for the nation, calling each other names wont help you JayJay We know our president is not well and its not an issue anymore.Technocrates run Govt’s daily activities without issues.YOUR health tag campaign is not working advise your cronies to change strategy.

  7. I can only imagine what the future holds. Seems it’s becoming acceptable to have a president that does not appear anymore at any public functions. Only when a function is held within statehouse do you see still photos with limited media coverage. A president who on ZNBC news now appears in still pictures or muted motion picture. And to the many he is considered as still working. We wait for parliament opening and jubilee celebration on 24 October 2014. Am sure if whatever is keeping the president from public appearing if still not sorted out by then will be cause for concern should the man again deliver speeches through VP Scott. I just hope the PF looses the majority of the upcoming elections so maybe the president can awaken from slumber.

  8. I am THE HAPPIEST PERSON at this moment, mai Guy Scott is now in control. Guy is a ‘very brilliant’ PhD holder I ve EVER KNOWN, he is the President at the MOMENT. God has rescued us frm collapsing economically as a COUNTRY Even the Kwacha is STABLE NOW @ K6.17000 per US$. Mr Sata was taking us to hell. But I will continue praying for him.

    God is FAITHFUL.

  9. anger and biterness can lead someone to an early grave .i wonder dis spectacles politians of nowadays, they dont crap even if their fellow politician has done something good for them all they see is negative.

  10. What a country with no guts. Nobody concerned back home that the driver of the ship is incapacitated.I keep seeing all these messages supporting the first ever Facebook President and am shocked. It is not about Mr Sata being sick, but it is the dignity of the office. When one is unable to do their job due to illness, it is ok to hold a press conference and tell the masses. Am not well and i will delegate my authority to the vice president and until my health situation is resolved, i ask for your prayers and continued progress. Everyone will be pulling for you and the country will keep moving without a doubt.
Zambians supporting this b.s and those keeping quiet are cowards. You need to demand an open Government. Am not asking for elections but for truth to prevail over playing hide and…

    • In a normal democracy or a corporation like Apple Inc. the then CEO the late Steve Jobs came out in the open and declared that he would be handing operational day to day duties as he is unable to carry out his duties and also gave his shareholders the date he will step down.
In Zambia its busy as usual…here is a President who has been folk-lifted into a swearing-in ceremony and still photos are taken and no audio everyone says its okay its really sad. The old man is clearly too sick to even sign his name.

  11. Better Scot does it guys, every speech is read for him nowadays. I bet he doesn’t even know the contents of that speech. President Guy Scot of Zambia. There is a good ring to it. Remove the dead wood.

  12. Zambia has been bedeviled by current constitution which allows a dead wood president to rule, which Nason Msoni says it’s a constitution that allows a dead man to rule for 5 years must not be entertained!

  13. Guy scott, should be president, he is clean, honest, well respected, even the investor would come to Zambia. Shame Mugabe, who does not like the zimbabwe even if they are born in Zimbabwe, scott, we are behind you. You will be the next president. The constitution will change, so from mangngo, to opening the agriculture, expresses to washington to meet Obama, who knows come September General assembly in New York, this is a working president, why can’t he act as President People?

  14. The world and Zambia in all , will make a head line , after our beloved president Michael sata, Guy Scott to be president. We are praying for that.

    • When you have lived long enough in the western world, you know how muzungu minds work. GUY SCOTT? To be president? Now I know how Africa was colonized so easily.
Shame on you. Naiive to the core, Zambians.

  15. Ooh come on shut up! The President is busy with other government pressing issues. You saw him at state house. Yes bwana we did see him even on TV. Alright go back to work now. What a comedy, Zambians are just monkeying all the lies that are coming from state house by Chella’s facebook page. Where is the opposition? Where are the MPs we entrusted our votes with regardless of political affiliation to stand up and save the country from total collapse? Where is UNZASU, COBUSU, NORTEC etc? We demand to see Sata address the nation on what the current state of affairs. No opening of Agric Show, No America trip, No AU trip, poor labour day, and soon independence day. Really? Chalo chabawiso? Do that anywhere in the world or company and U’ll be fired. Zambia? Umm all monkeying as Guy Scott said.

    • Zambians are extremely docile pipo. Why cant they call out the president to address them.Iam sure that’s our constitutional right.I asked a question for those who have been following me.I said what happened on 29th June,2014,at around 02:00hrs?I have been trying to give you a clue. When the president appeared on still pictures what were my comments?I told that the president will not speak, why is he mute? Those that have wise eyes can conclude on there own.The point is what should we do next because the president will never ever address the nation, his gone his traveled a long journey already. The constitution is clear call for presidential bye election, not this stupid talk about Guy scot being acting president.

  16. Guy Scott performed a live “PLAY FOR TODAY” at the Agricultural Show. But Zambians are eagerly waiting for the healthy and hard-working incumbent Republican President to grace the National Event. What was Guy Scott doing at the Show Grounds then when he has always been trumpeting that Sata is in good health?

Other Zambian leaders will have learnt a fine lesson as to NEVER MOCK NOR LAUGH at your sickly neighbour. God has his own way of meting out punishment when one is still alive.

Times will soon catch up with the PF as they fumble to end a disastrous term in Govt.

  17. Every well-meaning, objective Zambian, PF or not should be concerned with this obtaining situation. It’s not patriotism to sing praises for a president who suddenly begins to delegate his duties.

    • So what can the citizens do? You mean our legal brains cannot help out? We need to find a way of smoking the snake out of the hole. This game can not go on for ever!
SATA IS NOT ZAMBIA AND ZAMBIA IS NOT SATA.

  18. Guy scott, is a Zambian, colour does not matter, born bred in Zambia, come on , people, give credit where it is due. Not now, but after our loved president sata, he can rule.
Nigeria, they can not do that, coz, of kidding people, Zambia is peaceful. We are blessed for that, we thank God
