Zesco overcome Nchanga

Share

Zesco United maintained their second place on the FAZ Super League table after edging Nchanga Rangers 2-1 in a Week 18 match played in Chingola on Saturday.

Goals from striker Jackson Mwanza and winger Winstone Kalengo helped Zesco to recover from a two-game winless streak at Nchanga Stadium.

Mwanza put Zesco ahead in the 3rd minute after being gifted by George Chilufya’s poor clearance.

Zesco ensured that they went into the half time break leading 2-0 when Kalengo overpowered the Nchanga backline from the left flank before beating keeper Toaster Nsabata with a low shot from a tight angle in the 32nd minute.

Nchanga reduced the deficit ten minutes after the restart with midfielder Larry Bwalya’s long range shot that by-passed a litany of players.

Earlier in the first half, Zesco had Mwanza’s 24th minute goal ruled out for offside by referee Wellington Kaoma.

Meanwhile, Zesco have now completed a double over Nchanga whom they beat 3-1 in the reverse fixture in Ndola.
