Police in Kaoma district of Western have launched a man hunt for suspected UPND cadres who attacked Luampa district commissioner Alfred Miyato 62, and his driver Brian Kuwema 39.

In an interview, Western province police commissioner Lombe Kamunkoshi said suspected UPND cadres attacked Mr Miyato who escaped unhurt while his driver Kuwema sustained a swollen right arm and upper lip and Masheke Nguvu also sustained swollen and painful left side of the neck and shoulder adding that the incident happened between 21: 00 hours and 22:00 hours at Luampa sub-station along Luampa road.

Ms Kamunkoshi said the government vehicle Nissan Hard Body registration number GRZ 790 BV belonging to Luampa district administration suffered shattered wind screens.

She said District commissioner was coming from Mongu on official duty when he was attacked by suspected UNPD cadres.

Ms Kamunkoshi said no arrests have been made so far and that police officers have intensified investigations in order to bring the culprits to book.

She said political parties participating in the by-elections in both Luampa central and Namando wards local government should conduct peaceful campaigns in the area.

Ms Kamunkoshi said police officers will not tolerate cadres perpetuating violence in the area adding that anyone found will face the laws.

Meanwhile, ruling PF cadres in Mangango constituency of Kaoma district in Western province says they will start preparing to defend themselves from the violence attacks currently being perpetrated by the opposition UPND in the area.

In an interview, Mangango PF constituency chairperson, Isaaic Liwoyo said following the attack that happened at Pumulo Parkway Limited in Kaoma district where a group of UPND cadres attacked Kafue lawmaker Obvious Mwaliteta and former Mangango constituency Member of Parliament Taundi Chiseke, the party will now start defending itself from such attacks.

Mr Liwoyo said the violence being caused by UPND cadres was a sign that the party was feeling the heat from all the PF camps set strategically across the constituency.

He said the UPND cadres who were laden in an Isuzu Big Horn registration number ALL 2652 attacked Mangango PF campaign manager Mwaliteta and went away with his two remote controls, ripped off number plates of his Mitsubishi Pajero registration number ABD 5657 and a K500.00.

Mr Liwoyo said the UPND leadership should caution its cadres to desist from violence in the constituency adding that the attack on PF campaign manager Mwaliteta who is on a campaign trail soliciting for support for its candidate Rogers Lingweshi in the Mangango parliamentary by-election will not be condone.

He said the electorates in the area have witnessed massive development that the PF government has demonstrated in Mangango and no political pressure from the opposition UPND could disturb their choice to vote for Lingweshi on August 19.

Mr Liwoyo said UPND should base its campaigns on real issues that will uplift the living standards of the majority people in the area so that voters would understand the basis of their campaigns other than resorting to violence.

He observed that there was need to conduct issue based campaigns in Mangango because at the end of the day, it will be the voters who will offer a final verdict.

And police officers in Kaoma district have so far arrested two UPND cadres Kingford Nasilele a former Kaoma district commissioner in the MMD administration and Gicks Mushele a businessman who attacked Mwaliteta and Chiseke and are currently appearing in court for idle and disorderly conduct contrary to the laws of Zambia.

  1. This what UPND will passionately do when Zambians mistakenly vote them in to power, it will violence after violence. I wonder why simpleton UPND cadres are like these. The same bitterness like their leader HH.

    • UPND just effected a citizen’s arrest for GRZ vehicle abuse during elections. They never wielded any pangas at any one.

LT and the PF minions should stop distorting the facts. If the UPND were violent Mwaliteta would have been beaten properly as the UPND have scores to settle with him.

UPND are a peaceful party, they only react when provoked beyond what they can take. They will react to preserve the integrity of the elections, when ever they see electoral malpractices like dishing out of money by PF taking place.

Every one provoked beyond what they can take are bound to react. Unfortunately for PF, if the UPND would react, violently, PF would be beaten properly because UPND commands a huge crowd at the moment.

Viva UPND. Please restrain your selves. You are the winners.

    • PF ayamba kulila before the elections are even held. Ba PF just campaign in peace according to the rules and UPND will not touch you.

PF and LT have started fabricating grounds for their defeat in Magongo. They know they will not win this election, and as such they have hatched a plan to start crying foul so that when they loose the election they should blame their lose on UPND ‘s citizens arrest.

      Viva UPND. PF wawa!

  2. Hmmm,I smell a rat.Why conclude so fast? It might have been common criminals ,people please,we know who is felling the heat.

    • It is not about feeling the heat but rather condemning violence regardless of perpetrators. UPND must simply desist from this barbaric approach to politics because the more they insist on using this violent approach the more their popularity declines.

  3. LT is becoming a vuvuzela for PF. I dont believe that the ruling party can be the victim. We all know that PF is the one causing all the troubles.

  4. UPND is known for violence remember what happened in North western province when UPND and MMD cadre fought battles and people died using spears and pangas . It was one of the most disturbing chapter in the history of Zambia and HH was in the front. Anarchy breeds anarchy and the results do not favour anyone. The reasons behind UPND taking this route is known to instil fear, resulting panic amounting to accepting their ideology it’s either you are with us or we will harm you. In terrorism this is the method they use. UPND ‘ application of their political ideology is similar to terrorism, blackmailing , character assassination, eliminate of opponents , hatred for those who do no share their ideologies as enemies rather competitors.using weapons / hate is in their genes this will backfire

  5. China why should LT become a vuvuzela for PF. When acts of violence, verbal or physical aggression are being applied well meaning Zambians must condem those applying such acts. There is only one Zambia and the peace, tranquility, and harmony we all enjoy is born out of our tolerance, respect, love of one another regardless of our political ideologies, religious beliefs, customs, values and traditions. When individuals take up acts the do not fall in line with the acceptable norms the risk to starting the fire that they may not have the ability to put it off. Surely UPND historically has applied violence as the means to its political goals and there is evidence to suggest this is the way of political survival but may have deadly consequences on its image. Peace and love is a way forward

PF killed and seriously injured young men in Rufunsa , Lusaka and Livingstone. They have injured and undressed two women so far with the encouragement of senior PF members. Despite all these barbaric acts perpetrated by PF, Sata or any other senior member of the PF has not reprimanded these women abusers and killer PF cadres.

The police know the culprits but have been intimidated by the PF not to pursue these killer PF cadres and arrest them. Why?

To make matters worse, even SATA,himself once lead a PF panga wielding gang in chawama in 2008.

In the light of these incidents mentioned above, PF is the most violent party in the history of Zambia.

If you are wearing blinkers because your job relies on supporting PF, then do us a favour and shut it.

  6. I cannot blame UPND on this one. It is clear PF are using govt resources, vehicles, and civil servants such as DCs to campaign which is against electoral rules. UPND must continued effecting citizens arrest on these people. What was the DC doing at that time with a govt vehicle?

  7. There is no way a party in government with all the government machinery can be the victim of violence. When MMD was in power they did the exact things PF are doing to the opposition. Why is it that all over a sudden MMD is behaving? MMD used to be violent because they were in government and could manipulate the public through the media and through their campagins. Now all that is gone and MMD look vulnerable just like any other opposition party. Remember UNIP? What happened?

    • @china…
..at times violence is associated with just one individual…remember William ‘Tekere’ Banda from UNIP to MMD and now UPND…??..Anyway that aside. On a serious note, if we had to compare Apple for an Apple, most of us know who are capable of triggering unprecedented violence…probably in the name of ‘civil war’….God forbid.

    • Which UPND member has ever been seen wielding Pangas?

Its only PF cadres who are violent because people do want to hear their lies again.

  8. UPND will lose Mangango seat. PF has already captured the seat through visible developmental projects which have been done there and some of which are still underway.
Wanzelu, I think my effort to persuade Lusaka Times to ban you has failed. In any case, I can’t leave you go on with your transfixed hatred against individuals and political systems. You need help to change. You can be a sober person if proper counsel is given to you. I therefore, benevolently ask you for a face to face encounter at a venue you can suggest as being convenient to you, but I have Luano Valley as my offer for such a venue. The ball is in your court if you value peace. Violence begets violence.

    • @Umubemba Inkonko

I want you to be honest and face your demons. Which part of my blog below is incorrect?

  9. What sort of reasoning mwe bantu? There is evidence that they assaulted Maliteta, stole his money and caused malicious damage to his car but they are still charged of idling and disorderly conduct, how come. It is already a non starter case, dull PF

    • @True son of Barosteland

Do you really think if UPND chaps were to beat up Mwaliteta, he would still be in magongo today recruiting PF cadres?

UPND only caught Mwaliteta abusing government vehicles during the campaigns which is against the law.

  10. What is wrong with pf caders how can you be suporting wrong things remember we a all zambians we all know that using GRZ vehicles for campaign its agenest the ECZ laws

  11. The Police are always quick to arrest opposition cadres and yet they drag their feet to deal with PF cadres who all the time break the law with impunity. God Bless mother Zambia from these PF criminals raping mother Zambia day and night.
