A 3 month old baby of Fungu village in Chipili district named Justine Nkunta junior has died after allegedly being given kachasu, a highly potent local alcoholic beverage, by his father Mr.Justine Nkunta aged 36.

Luapula Province commissioner of police Malcolm Mulenga confirmed the incident which happened about last week ago in Fungu village in Chief Mutupila’s area in Chipili district.

The mother of the child, identified as Annie Chungu, 31, had in the morning of the material day gone to the field, leaving the baby in the care of his father who was at the time drinking kachasu.

When Ms Chungu returned home from the field around 15:00 hours, she found that the baby was in an unconscious state.Ms Chungu then asked the childs father, who was in a drunken state, about the condition of the child, he responded by saying that he had made the baby drink kachasu.

Police officers who rushed to the scene found that on physical inspection of the baby there were no visible injuries but there was a pungent smell of alcohol emanating from the child’s body.

The child’s body was taken to Mansa General Hospital mortuary where a post-mortem was conducted.

The father of the deceased baby has been arrested and detained in police custody. He will appear in court soon.

    • Why blame poverty all the time. You Zambians always have excuses. that is just carelessness by a drunken father. The baby could have been crying but because the father is illiterate, he opted to put to ‘sleep’.

    • Oh my goodness…the one that calls itself Mushota is such a bimbo with an obvious identity crisis and inferiority complex….get a life!

    • Poverty cannot be blamed for stupidity, he was drinking & where & why did he buy kachasu if he was so poor then? Whatever happened to very light mealie meal porridge then? It’s pretty childish for the whole of a 36 year old to act like that.
      I don’t get it.

    • Pressure learn to take responsibility and stop the blame game, we will never develop and progress with that attitude mate. Wishi chipuba and must be locked up and throw away the key period!

  1. These lazy drunken men taint the reputation of African men because of their reckless drinking and laziness leaving europeans to believe African men are lazy and women run homes………

May the soul of the little one rest in peace.

  2. I only drink high class beers like SAPPORO’S SPACE BARLEY,CROWN AMBASSADOR RESERVE and TUTANKHAMUN ALE

So I dont know what Kachasu is

    Thanks

    • @Mushota who is saying that you know what Kachasu is?? The way you come out makes it obvious that you know what kachasu is and that you have tasted the drink….

Otherwise you would have simply asked what Kachasu was??

    • Pretty I am just passing an Intelligent observation about myself. The only person I care about is me, no one else. I am sorry a child lost thir life here over what appears as Manslaughter but I don’t know what Kachau is because I am a hihl class person, educated living in Europe and enjoyin life marrying a white person and pretty much pinching myself everyday on how Lucky I am to be where I am now. I love myself I am sure you will understand unless you dont like yourself. I don’t know what Kachasu is, and if killing a child is anything to by, I don’t want o ever know it.

      Thanks

  3. @Mushota.

Your identity is a trojan horse crafted in congo for one and only sole purpose of hegemony over the people of the South. Monkeys dont hide…

    • Iwe kongolay, go back to ituli forest. Wandisabila..you and your fellow congolese are nothing but bakawalala, babbi, masholi….

  4. Mushota, You are a crazy girl, perhaps insane is a right way to describe you.
I the late-Remmy Mushota was your dad, a descent and noble man, to say the least, he would have been a very sad a person to have you as insane girl as you potray, who seem to be struggling with identity crisis. In most of your comments, out of context. For example, if you don’t know what kachasu is, who cares? Find life and stick to it.

    • General, talking about my personal life is out of context here
      I hope you understand.

      I stated the fact that I don’t know Kachasu, which I don’t.
What problem do you have with m ignorance with kachasu?

You are judging me by your flawed standards

      Thanks

    • People people, that is not real Mushota writing today. Koma cilamikalipa that someone is in Europe and happily married to someone who is white? I too intend marrying a white because most of you in Zambia have become ‘ba John solye ubwali’ because you are lazy and put the blame on the government.

  5. Mushota,

What point do you aim to relay to the masses? Your imbibing of exquisite brands of alcohol, marrying a Caucasian, living in Glasgow, studying for a PhD or having it, is irrelevant and just vain if you do not have Jesus.

Perhaps you are too young to know better!

    • Mulenga ocourse I am a child of God

I am a bonafide Christian, but that doesn’t take away the fact that I know nothing about what Kachasu is

I am doing my PhD I am 27, you should be happy for me instead of throwing stones don’t you think?

      Thanks

    • Kekekekekeke Mushota has been 27 for the past 7 years.I remember at one time great Kalu was 25 for a long time, genetics at play in this tribe.Tabakula !

  6. Mushota,
The apple can not fall far away from its tree, if it does, then it is just like you are falling far away from the good standards the named person had during his life. Please do not blame me for my reflection of the ‘person I named’. I personally had conversation with the late, as a matter of fact, one of my friend is working at the Law firm set by the named person, so, try to moderate your thinking and attitudes to save the integrity of the people that you owe your previous life. You will never run away from being judged in reference to people clause to your heart. let me end here.

  7. This mushota is a piece of shi.t. I would careless about stu.p.id as.s. her mouth runs like diarrhea. She just opens her dull mouth and sh.it just falls. What a creepy!
On the other note hang this dysfunctional ass father to hell

    • Looks like Mushota gives you sleepless nights. Most of you did not even contribute to the topic at hand but rather concentrated on Mushota. Yaba sure some of you Zambians are inferior.

  8. WHY is it that NOBODY has commented on the picture at the top of this story? Moneni tumenso! He is enjoying it so much his eyes look like he is almost dying of pleasure! Unfortunately, he is not drinking kachasu!

  9. The sad story has been hijacked by mushota and instead of focusing on story of the poor child who has died you are haranguing each other.

    • @Dead very true and this is the problem I see with the bloggers here, this site is a very popular forum probably one of the top 10 news-blogging Zambian sites yet some people take even the most serious news lightly and make jokes out other people’e terrible misfortune. We should take the opportunity and debate issues and from there take constructive action how else are going to improve things???

  10. Where was DEC? They were busy arresting grade 6 children and grand mothers for possession of an ounce of marijuana..so much injustice its so sad, I haver complained so much before about alcohol abuse as being a more serious problem than marijuana and yet the arms of the law in this case DEC continue to focus on arresting people for marijuana and forgetting that more lives are destroyed by alcohol abuse. DEC should be closing down all these illegal tarverns which sell illicit beers and which operate into the early hours of the morning, that is what will save lives and stop crimes such as rape, assault, murders and road accidents. This is a class issue these laws that focus on dagga were created to protect an upper and middle class forgeting the poor are affected more by alcohol. Shame!!
