FAZ on Ebola alert ahead of Nkana’s trip to Abidjan

Share

Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) vice president Boniface Mwamelo says Football House is monitoring the outbreak of the Ebola disease in West Africa where Nkana are scheduled to travel next week to faceSewe Sport of Ivory Coast in a CAF Confederation Cup match.

Mwamelo said FAZ will engage the Ministries of Sports and Health prior to Nkana’s pending trip to Ivory Coast.

He said FAZ does not want Nkana to be exposed to countries where the deadly Ebola virus has broken out.

Mwamelo said FAZ may also consider engaging the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on the matter.

“We are aware about the Ebola outbreak and we are monitoring the situation in West Africa. We don’t want Nkana to be exposed to the
Ebola virus,” he said.

Over 900 people have so far been killed by Ebola in Nigeria, Liberia, Serra Leon and Guinea.

“We are engaging our parent ministry which is the Ministry of Sports and the Ministry of Health on the matter,” Mwamelo added.

  1. This is getting kind of scary….. Citizens from affected countries travel to Zambia for a seminar or whatever it was called and now Zambia travelling to a country with Ebola.

    • He should be speaking with FIFA &encoraging them to switch venue or to defer the game!! Wanton love to fulfill a fixture may unnecessarily put the lives of players at risk, govt should support this strongly, as there is a wider theoretical possibility of someone catching it & coming back with it whilst it is still incubating – It is a matter of life & death!! It isn’t just some simple football!

  2. Make no mistake, put it straight that you must explain to the mother organ of African football that you cant take the risk of traveling to west Africa. The likelihood of contracting the disease is huge considering the fact that you will be sorrounded by many football spectators from different parts of the country and other west African countries . This can be another Spanish flue if not controlled- millions can lose lives

  3. Why not cancel the trip altogether. The entire west africa should be a no-go region. You mean people cannot do without football?

  4. Aba ba footballer batemwa namaule, one of them will bring back the dreadful disease. We know it is spread through bodily fluids!

  5. Ebola is not easily contracted like that. A person with Ebola cannot even work, cannot even go to a football match to watch. You cannot even catch Ebola in the 21 days incubation stage. For you to get Ebola from somebody or in short for somebody to pass it on that person will be visibly sick that they cannot even stand. Knowledgeable people have explained a million times. It is not even an airborne disease. Now wake up & start reading. CAF will not stop Nkana from going because there is ABSOLUTELY nothing to fear, they will come back very safe

  6. A combination of cowardice, fear, ignorance and idleness is what is making our colleagues not to understand the disease. I have a cousin in Guinea and he was explaining to me about the disease and the unfounded fears. Ba Nkana please go, and there is no single reported case of Ebola in Ivory Coast, lyonse malilisho. These guys scaring you are the most ignorant chaps in Zambia

  7. True, Nkana go and play and win. There is no Ebola in Ivory Coast. Even CAF will ask you several questions and you will expose your ignorance. I repeat kulibe Ebola ku Ivory Coast. Mwamvela.
