First Lady encourages pupils in Muchinga to earn places at local university

First Lady Christine Kaseba has challenged pupils in Muchinga Province to take advantage of the Construction of the Robert Makasa University.

Dr. Kaseba urged the pupils to work hard in order to earn a place at the new university, as they will be given first priority.

The first Lady said this in Chinsali District today when she conducted an educational tour with the pupils that are attending a mentorship Programme in the district.

Dr. Kaseba said it would be meaningless for students from other provinces to fill up places at the university because people in Muchinga Province could not meet the standards.

She said she will continue monitoring the progress the pupils will be making and ensure that those that have good qualifications are given that opportunity.

Dr. Kaseba said the construction of the university in their area should motivate them to work even harder and achieve their dreams.

She said President Michael Sata is committed to the improvement of education quality in the country as evidenced by the two universities being constructed in the province.

Dr. Kaseba said this is an opportunity for the pupils of Muchinga Province to attain higher education as they now have a university within reach.

She said the tour should motivate them to work even harder at school and not to rush into early marriages.

Dr. Kaseba later visited the site for the construction of the Provincial Administration, Police Headquarters and a recently constructed dam.

    • With a minimum of at least two universities in each province, we can now start focusing building research institutions around them. The reason the Germans build high performance quality products is because their educational system is built around that.

Americans copied that model in 1876 with the establishment of John Hopkins University as the first research university. They amplified that model and today about 300 universities confer research degrees far more than was envisioned by the proselytizers.

Research education is conceptually practical, low cost, skills oriented, and mainly concerned with teaching. It caught on because legislatures and businesses saw it as a means of economic development and a supplier of personnel, while families saw a gateway to the middle-class.

    • Yahh…, animal farm zoona, encouraging other people’s children to take up places at Mushindo University, when yours are at oxford?

    • @Saulosi, Musakileko mazina yenangu pela. If you want you can call them John Mwanakatwe University or after the District, not that other name,

    • Also if I may add to that, The United States has been the world’s biggest economy since 1871 practically 5 years before adopting this model and once it was ingrained in the American fiber no single country has been able to surpass it since then.

China on the other hand using a combination of research and other means is estimated to be 1.5 times as large as the U.S. by 2030 and 1.7 times bigger by 2060. India copied this similar model from the US in the late 70s and it is only projected to surpass the U.S. in 2051, when its GDP is forecast at $33.1 trillion, compared with U.S. GDP of $33 trillion.

Specifically, China’s GDP (based on 2005 PPP) is forecast by the OECD at $15.26 trillion for 2016, exceeding the forecasted U.S. GDP of $15.24 trillion for the very first time.

    • The Purchasing Power Parity (PPP), is essentially the implied exchange rate at which the currency of one country would have to be converted into that of another country to buy an identical basket of goods and services in each country.

One of the best-known examples of PPP is the “Big Mac” index, published by the Economist magazine, which calculates simplified PPP exchange rates based on the popular McDonald’s sandwich.

The biggest advantages of PPP exchange rates is that they have greater stability over time as compared to more volatile market exchange rates, and they provide a better estimate of consumers’ purchasing power in developing nations.

As the smart people of the Zambian Enterprise build on this model, our economy can soon have an impact on the rest of the world.

    • ALL SAID No. 1.1 AND I COULDN’T AGREE MORE. I WON’T WASTE TIME SAYING SIMILAR STUFF SINCE YOU HAVE SAID EVEN MORE THAN I WANTED TO SAY. HOWEVER, I WILL COMMENT ON THE CAMPUS ITSELF. THE BUILDING IS ALMOST FINISHED BUT THE SURROUNDING LOOKS SO DUSTY. WHEN IS PLANTING OF TREES, TURF, FLOWERS AND OTHER PLANTS COMMENCING? NOT THAT PLANTS, TREES, TURF AND FLOWERS SHOULD HAVE STARTED ALMOST HALF WAY THROUGH CONSTRUCTION OF THE UNIVERSITY? OR WILL IT BE THE USUAL SWEEPING THE BARE GROUNDS WITH UMUKUSAO?

  5. #2 Chileya,
Which part of the world do you live in? This University was started by RB in August 2010 and it was the visionary Leader called RB and not a kaponya illiterate called Cycle Matter. The only thing your Cobra started was a “Donchi Kubeba” Market in Lusaka. As things stand, Kaseba is busy trying to beat Regina Chiluba at stealing the money. It was Sata’s dream to end up at plot one not because he wanted to develop the country but to steal and enrich his family.Sata falls in the same league as Mobutu, Bozize,Muluzi,Idi Amin etc. He has no vision nor heart for the country. So please get your facts right. Kaseba is the defacto Minister of Health and you wonder what the Health Minister does?
