The Zambia Medical Association (ZMA) says a single doctor is enough to manage the health of the Republic President as long as that particular individual has easy access to health experts.

Commenting on the proposal by the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) for the current set up were the republican President chooses his own personal physician to be replaced by a system were a panel of experienced Doctors, answerable to both Cabinet and Parliament handles the Head of State’s health needs, ZAM president Aaron Mujajati says his association cannot endorse YALI’s proposal before carefully studying what it entails.

In a telephone interview, Dr. Mujajati has told Qfm news that the issue of whether the country should consider changing the law with regards the President’s personal Doctor should be considered a little more cautiously.

Dr. Mujajati says this is because the presidency is a matter of national security and that if such a suggestion is to be considered it should involve the country’s security wings.

The ZMA president says the country should not rash in changing the law simply to address an immediate problem.

Dr. Mujajati says whether the country chooses to have a team of health experts or an individual to look after the President’s health, what is important is management of information coming from State House.

  1. I think YALI are are a bunch of stupld ldiots! They recently said that our new constitution should come after 2016, without thinking about the colossal amount of money and time spent on the draft. YALI should learn to think like modern young people.

  2. Yali is not saying a single doctor can’t manage. Yali is simply asking for a system which I think will get rid of the need for cabinet to create a medical board as in our present situation. If we had a system, Sata could have been declare indisposed long time and by now he could have been disposed. How on earth would u expect the cabinet he appointed to get rid of him through a medical board when that will make them victims? Lets create a system that gives us an automatic medical board

  3. Raws made for one persons is usually bad raw. Mr Kafupi had a raw to fix KK; what good ever came out of it in the rong Lun? Sata is plobabry doing us all a favour. We do not need a plesident who is always in newspapers or on TV. Maybe we do not even need a plesident! Why do we need to see or hear from sata? What is he going to say that is very important?

    • This may be very true in Sata’s case. The last three years have shown that Zambia doesn’t need him. Unfortunately, he is costing Tax payers alot of money to keep in that foxhole of his just shading his skin monthly.

  4. Kaseba tekako amatako panshi you should know that your dear husband is sick. Banachimbusa we banachimbusa mwangalafye . ebeniko namayo munenu alitinina lunshi pamenso. Nichitongo tabamuchindile . have put your husband under pitcot? We. Know you have the world in your pocket. God is watching.

  5. If you want to hide anything from an ordinary Zambian, put it in writing. This is the case of Suntwe who just rushed to comment on the matter raised by YALI. This is not about President Sata from what I read YALI discussing it, it’s about the future and I think it’s clear that they didn’t say a single doctor can fail to do that as alleged by Mujajati. This is simply a recommendation that we need experienced doctors and a team to manage the health of a President – not specifically directed to Sata. ZMA should really support such proposal rather than just come out to criticise those young ones. Who is the current doctor of President Sata, anyway and who was for Levy, Dr. Chiluba, KK, RB, etc? All foreigners. Does ZMA lack capacity among senior doctors to handle the President ?

  6. I think time will judge YALI as having been right. Why are we not taking the health of our Presidents seriously? The State must create a law where EXPERIENCED doctors manage thr health of our Presidents. On the constitution, yesterday, I was part of the audience at UNZA where the Grand consortium acknowledged that their strategies have failed, including the honking. We need new thinking and that is what yali is giving us as opposed to the violence LAZ was inciting us to contemplate on during the forum. Violence can’t work in Zambia but dialogue with Government can. My thinking is why didn’t the meeting between Oasis Forum not yield results when yali had results? I think government respects yali because of its previous showdown with Kabimba and considers the Grand consortium as talk shop

  7. ZMA must think again and clearly take the challenge than just oppose such a good proposal. Where did yali mention President Sata?
