Northern Province Provincial Registrar John Chola has implored parents to obtain birth certificates for their children as it is a child’s right.

He noted that birth registration is vital as it enables a child to have truer identity and enhance its right to belong to a family, right to education and universal child protection.

Mr. Chola said this at the launch of the birth registration exercise in Kasama yesterday.

The Provincial Registrar said that acquisition of birth certificate is compulsory and advised parents to make use of the ongoing exercise.

And Kasama District Commissioner Kalanga Bwalya commended Caritas Kasama and Jesus Cares Ministry for partnering with the National Registration office in supplementing government’s efforts in spearheading the birth registration exercise.

Mr. Bwalya said it is important that every child has a birth certificate as it is a legal document that will protect a child against any violation and abuse.

He appealed to parents in the district to take advantage of the registration exercise in order to obtain birth certificates for their children.

The DC further urged the National Registration and Passports Office to ensure that the exercise bears fruit in the district.
