Some Lusaka Motorists have backed the Commuter Rights Association (CRA ) president Aron Kamuti’s observation that constant Police Check points especially in Lusaka were meaningless.

One of the concerned motorist David Gunduzani, said unnecessary traffic checks being conducted were merely inconveniencing road users especially during rush hours.

ZANIS reports Mr. Gunduzani saying in an intervierw in Lusaka today that police should put their house in order to minimize these snap road blocks which he said had become a nuisance to the travelling public.

Another motorist Simwaka Lubemba says calls by Mr Kamuti should be supported by all well meaning commuters and road users.

Mr Lubemba, who is a propritor of Hinau enterprise, said while motorists appreciate the importance of check points, some were meaningless and deserved to ignored by motorists.

He stated that many of the check points mounted by traffic police officers in Lusaka do not add value as they only disturb motorists.

Yesterday, Mr Kamuti observed that the constant police check points more especially in Lusaka are meaningless.

Association President Aaron Kamuti told QFM News monitored by ZANIS that the check points are just inconveniencing people because the flow of traffic is affected.

Mr. Kamuti said constant police check points are not saving any purpose considering that they want to mount road blocks during peak times when people have deadlines to meet.

He has also accused the Zambia Police Traffic Department of allegedly finding faults in the motorists.

He said there is need for the police traffic department to operate within the confinement of the law instead of them mounting check points at their own will.

And efforts to get a comment from Police Public Relations Manager Montana Chanda proved futile by press time as her mobile phone could not be reached.

  1. Whichever government officials sanction these roadblocks overlook the fact that spending endless hours in traffic due to roadblocks results in reduced productivity and the translates to our increasing poverty as a nation. We have no sense of urgency to get things done in Zambia and that’s why we’re poor.

    • …especially that circus from Central.

They cramm themselves in an open battered Hilux being led by a Honda CRX 1100 bike and then land at the Zesco fly-over bidge.

      They look so desperate….. Mxxm.

  2. why don’t you tell them to their face that these road blocks are nothing but money spinning ventures.they are finding faults so that they cream you off of your last coin.everytime there is this roadlock at anypoint there is always a packed car being used as a collecting booth where bribes are paid.twalipwalalafye

  3. malama was the best inspector general who stopped these road bocks. there is day light corruption by the police on theses road blocks. this is a minus really for our working pf govt.

  4. Seen police mount a bribe check on Kafue bound road before Makeni that was shocking. One would have thought that was a Highway or Zambian Freeway Get serious police

  5. Badly written article with repeating points. However, I support Kamuti’s assertion. I have had to educate policemen at roadblocks that every car has reflectors and so there is really no need to impound someone’s car because of a lack of those useless additive stickers that the so-called law insists on. There must be more purpose to these roadblocks than just wringing money out of unsuspecting motorists.

  6. The one I hate most is the one at the Kamwala mosque. These policemen hide waiting for the motorist to beat the traffic lights then you would see them running after the car. One was almost hit by a speeding vehicle whilst chasing another car…… oh God it was drama you could see the desperation for money on these policemen. Shame.

  7. These traffic officers, have became a problem.there is about six checkpoints mounted everyday on the ndola/kitwe road.in ndola and luanshya its become a routine they are on the roads at 08: 00hrs every day.some are even stationed at traffic lights.

  8. And FYI these roadblocks were a pre and post colonial national security measure. There is no way @ all they prevent traffic mishaps. Modern and effective policing of traffic during the day involves patrolling to catch drivers who put others at risk. These uuseless roadblocks are even called ATMs by these lowlives. I am aware that even the top brass of ZP Traffic receive tribute at the end of the day. In order for a jnr officer to be deployed in this division requires a bachelor’s degree in extortion through corruption.

  9. The quality of the reportage on both the both the Lusaka Times and the Zambianwatchdog is simply appalling. The language has been cleaned up somewhat – and that is to be commended – but generally, reading both these sites is like chewing ‘rice ya muchanga’.

  10. Today I found two police check points within 4 kms after the permanent one at kabangwe on the Ndola road. One wonders what the thinking, if any is. We have very dull cops at the top.

  11. Road blocks are a big nuisance and a huge embarrassment.Cops have no shame at all.Where is Anti Corruption. There is so much corruption going on amongst these policemen.Malama put the rot to rest.please bring him back
