Mufumbwe District Commissioner Mankishi Mukokwe has called on government to construct classroom blocks at Kabanda and Shungulu primary schools in Mufumbwe.

Ms Mukokwe said this will help address the inadequate classroom space being faced by grade eight and nine pupils at the two basic schools.

She disclosed that the two primary schools are accommodating more than 350 pupils in the two existing classrooms.

The DC made the call after conducting awareness activities for women groups in Mushima area together with officers from the Ministry of Community Development.

And Shungulu Primary School Head Teacher Boaz Muzhama revealed that pupils from the school were learning from nearby churches due to few classroom spaces.

He further stated that the school lacked desks and only 40 were delivered to the school last year.

Mr Muzhama added that the school only had seven teachers instead of 12 as required by the school establishment while Kabanda Primary school has six teachers instead of the required nine.

Kabanda Primary School Head Teacher James Muwowo has since urged government to deploy more teachers to schools in rural areas.

Meanwhile, Acting District Education Board Secretary (DEBS) Debby Jipira said government attaches great importance to education and was working at modalities to address challenges faced in schools in the district.

    • And you say you’ve got an MP in Masumba for Mufumbwe. All he knows is to fake qualifications (like Mushota) and fire guns in the air. Typical of PF thug. The calibre of PF leaders do not impart confidence in the Zambian people.
Just look at @Mushota, another PF thug, very use.less person.

    • This is what I keep saying. There is no development in Zambia other than shoddy malls and people building homes on inflated bank mortgages or corrupt practices. Even the schools in non-rural areas are the same. Classes built for 35 pupils now hold at least 90 pupils. When I graduated in 2003 our class average was 48. Now the teachers stand at the doors to teach, they don’t even know pupils names and don’t even give home work any more because they can’t manage to mark the work. I really feel sorry for people stating that the current government is working when in fact not! I understand one wanting to be loyal to party affiliations but common sense should prevail!

  1. …I’m sure a lot more schools are in similar situation…and that’s what dilutes the achievement of building universities else where….we must learn to walk before we can attempt to run……

  2. Why can’t the people in the community come together with business owners in the area and do something about it? You can make clay bricks, bake them and build classrooms. Then the business community helps with materials, carpenters build desks and so on. After this then go make your MP and government answerable. Waiting for the govt to act just means that as a community you lose with your children learning in a difficult environment with a short-staffed staff, overworked and frustrated. You can’t enjoy school like that.

    • …@namayo
…why even involve the community, there is a trend now of MPs surrendering their gratuity to their electorate……that’s for Masumba to come on board now…..

    • @Wepay……
…..if they use that tax u are referring to, then where are they going to get money to take ‘VIP’s’ to Milpark hosp…..???
