Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) president Edith Nawakwi has challenged women in the United Church of Zambia (UCZ) to turn Kasaka arena in Kafue into an international conference centre.

And the opposition leader has called on the church to get involved in the country’s politics.

Speaking during the UCZ blousing ceremony at Kasaka arena in Kafue, Ms. Nawakwi who was the guest of honor lamented that the continued abstinence of the church in the country’s politics is not helping the nation.

The opposition leader said it was the duty of the church to ensure that the right people are elected so as to ensure that the country moves forward in reducing the suffering obtaining on the ground.

She notes that when bad leaders are elected it is not only those who elect these leaders but all the people including those from the church.

She told the cheering cloud that they should not leave politics to the “so called politicians” when the same politicians are found in church and that the church should not sideline itself from actively participating in the country’s politics because lives depend on the decisions made politicians hence the need for their full participation.

She notes that active participation of the church in active politics will foester reconciliation and forgiveness amongst politicians something she said was lacking in the country.

Meanwhile the opposition leader who is also a member of the UCZ challenged the women to use what they have to turn the arena into one of the best international conference centers in the country.

Ms. Nawakwi said women were the back born of the UCZ who have built beautiful churches hence it was possible to do the same at the arena.

She called on the women to use what the had to develop Kasaka saying ” you are mothers to architectures, bankers, bricklayers etc so tell these sons and daughters to help us build this place into a beautiful conference centre.”

  1. Be careful what you wish for.Kafupi and Sata are avowed Christians but its precisely such church going Christians messing up Zambia big time.

  2. The last time I watched Sata was two months ago and then his ears were so sticking out like a chimpanzee which led me call him Satanzee. I don’t how he will like when he opens parliament.if he will not have voice as people say then I will call giraff.

    • @Ganja
kekekekekek,,,, today`s smoke must have been red hot,,, the story is about President Nawakwi and women in church ,,, and you, you are talking about Satanzee….naikonda iyo!! seeing double ka!! you have cracked my ribs bro

  3. Invovle the church in politics is a very dangerous thing.Despite certain elements are. Are activily seen campaigning for certain political party such olive branch by an opposition leader is dangerous by inviting churches to participate in politcs this is more like telling ZP,ZAF….and Civil Servants to participate in politics. We know that all head of all Security Wings and Civil Servants are cadres and we never be objective to the citizens of this country.Mrs Hambulo should bear in mind that various members in the church belong to diifferent political parties and if party alligence is shown in church chaos will be the order of the day.Spare us Mrs Hambulo the usual political rhetrioc please learn also to use your husband’s name Edith.

  4. Edith, Sata’s words are correct when he says you opposition in Zambia are useless. He branded his own ministers and MPs useless although here he is mainly to blame for hiring them. But going by what’s not happening to Sata, it has emerged that he is actually a genius, an evil of course, nonetheless a genius. How else do you explain your lack of creativity of what to do to smoke him out of state house and make him account for his absence? He is sitting pretty secure in the knowledge that the impotent opposition and his coward minions have no balls to do anything about his abdication. Have you imagined the hell Sata would be raising if positions were reversed? I hope you do. He has demonstrated he is a dribbler supremo with no equal in Zambia. How uninspirational you lot are! Shame!

  5. Good and progressive thinking. Why do the majority not see opportunities in the raw resources that they own?. People want God to provide them miracles to solve their problems when he already gave them intelligence to do so. By the way now that Ebola is next door, tell them to start the red alert in the boarder areas of the particular neighbouring country.

  6. Sorry church has more noble work to do , politicks politicks can be done by those not called by the Lord let the kingdom be the priority not the affairs of this world , any one can go into politicks not in ministry

  7. “Situations and circumstances do colour life, but you’ve been given a mind to choose what the colour shall be.”

Having said that Ms Nawakwi, why is it the Godless pervert mecca nations like Thailand,N,Korea and Netherlands doing much better than Zed? Think about that then bring your church + suffering Zambians delusion into a more realistic focus.

  9. Nawakwi with the boyfriend. Interesting. Old men enjoy young girls and Old women enjoy young girls.

    Life is crazy!

  10. Does anyone take Nawakwi seriously any more? What does she hope to achieve? Checks and balance or a trip to Rio? Sometimes it’s more dignified to stop than continue to fight for relevance.

  11. No ma’am church and politics cannot mix. Fundamentally, politicians would have to listen to God, and really, that just would not work! Politicians must lie and do unethical things, it’s a fact. God hates murder, liars and thieves/spives and has said He will not have them in His Kingdom. And the logistics of it all………president excuses himself from debate chamber to ask God in Heaven for a few pointers, answer may not come in time for end of day….Na forget about it! I mean Kabimba being controlled by the church….would just exhaust pastors. We know that because they never listen to Dr. Mumba do they! His party are planning a revolt.

    • Exactly @Jay Jay. Some of Europe’s and Asia’s most ungodly nations are way ahead of Zambia inspite of their heathen ways.

  12. IT’S THE PARTICIPATION OF CHURCHES IN POLITICS THAT MESSES UP THE COUNTRY. THIS IS BECAUSE CHURCHES ARE NO LONGER CHURCHES WE USED TO KNOW. THE BIBLE HAS BEEN INTERPRETED COMPROMISING IN THE WAY OF MAKING PASTORS MILLIONAIRES. A MILLIONAIRE PASTOR WILL EASILY INFLUENCE A CORRUPT POLITICIAN AS HE HAS THE ECONOMIES OF SCALE TO FINANCIALLY CORRUPT A POLITICIAN.

  13. A politician will use anything to keep in the news and limelight and finally to capture power to make money. Using religion is just one of them. Nawakwi has no other qualification to run a country. So she will do anything stu.pid to keep afloat and say anything idi.otic to attract attention!

  14. I agree with madam Nawakwi ,but which church?certainly not the roman catholic, its good because the church is the brain of a good society.the pilgrim fathers who founded USA first built the church and prayers in schools were mandatory, but with the separation between church and state has brought American morals very down, teachers screwing pupils ,guns.did u know the America prospered when the nation was called upon to fast.we certainly need a religious figure in Zambia who can’t be bought but guide the nation on many economic and religious issues.

  15. conclusion of the arguments by many bloggers is that keep the church out of ACTIVE politics. The problem with politicians is when they see people gathered in big numbers, they think of votes & the consequent power.I will advise churches country wide to STOP inviting politicians to there congregations as “guests”,let alone address(preach?) the congregants.

  16. Is being an MP a respectable occupation? Are people like Nawakwi employable outside politics? This should be a warning for those entering politics that the condition is catching, dangerous and incurable and would leave sufferers the object of ridicule for as long as they were remembered. Look at the case of Chiluba having landed the highest prize and enjoyed public adulation which was so brief, he is now slowly being forgotten and what may only remembered will be his ultimate humiliation. Politics should be a last resort as a job, to be avoided if one could earn a living doing anything else. The crazy thing is that someone has to do it. What the heck else.

  17. I have heard that Nawakwi has a Masters degree in Chemical Engineering like me and a MBA. (which is why she was a Finance Minister). Can she go and do Chemical Engineering design or production management at KCM? I don’t think so. She is redundant and all she can talk about is the idea of connecting Church and politics. Pathetic!! What a waste of a good resource. Now a subject of ridicule, soon to be forgotten.

  18. Ya mayo ya ichipuwa sana!

Ba LT do u edit your articles? What is a ‘back born’? And who are ‘mothers to architectures’?
